To those Who Own Only or Prefer One Gender Over the Other

1) What gender do you prefer & why?
Boys, definitely. At first, I had planned to only own boys (Lainie, my Glot, put a stop to that). The majority of my wishlist is made up of boy dolls/girls to be modded into boys. I'm not sure why. Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that I prefer boys in real life? When I have kids, I want sons, and I'm only attracted to boys. Also, most of my original characters are boys.

2) Do people ever ask you about your preference?
No, not particularly.

3) What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference?
I just like boys. That's all.

4) Do other's think it's weird that you have this preference?
Several people think it's strange that I want boy dolls, but end up dressing them in an effeminate way. I just explain to them that a girl isn't the same as a feminine guy.

5) When & how did you discover that you prefered this gender over the other?
When I was shopping around for my first doll, I saw tons and tons of boy sculpts that I adored, but no girl sculpts. I thought many girl dolls were pretty, but I just wasn't impressed and felt no desire to own any of the girls I saw.

Boys! I love yaoi manga/anime and homoerotic novels/movies for so many years, not just because it's a trend. And so all my character have to be boys. Well, one day I also would like girls because of the cute clothes I would let them wear... but if I have enough money for next doll, I'm sure I'd prefer another boy instead of a girl.

2) Do people ever ask you about your preference?
No. My family and friends know about my love for yaoi, so it's nothing unusual I collect boys only. Other people think my boys are girls (they see "just dolls" - and most people here think all dolls must be girls...), even I have many manly guys like Iple Akando and Unidoll Jace

3) What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference?
I like boys! Why not?

4) Do other's think it's weird that you have this preference?
I'm sure they do, but I don't really care. If they have a problem to understand this, it's their problem.

5) When & how did you discover that you prefered this gender over the other?
There was nothing to discover for me - I live with this preference since I was a child. I remember playing with my brother's Big Jim instead of the Barbies my parents got me. The first BJD I saw was a boy, and after I fell in love with those beauties I knew I would end up with a large harem of cute gay boys

 

Hello everyone. I don't know if this question has been asked here or not, and if so, I'm so sorry for asking it again but I'm curious. How did you all figure out what gender your first doll would be? I really have no preference, I just can't decide which one I would want for my first doll.

to me i wanted a boy first as they are more attractive to me than the females i have seen, iv had more luck with male dolls than female ones XD

 

I don't like girl-dolls - well, not your typical girl-dolls or female dolls, anyways. Erm, what I mean is: I like to look at them and sometimes even go "would be cool to get her, no?" but except for my Cynical Baby Cathy, I don't think I'll ever buy another girl-doll. Thus, it wasn't really hard to decide which gender my first doll had to be. Basically, the question never appeared. I always wanted a boy. Now, I have a whole bunch of boys lounging around here.

As it happens, I only buy boy dolls. There are plenty of stunning girl sculpts out there, but I've always had mostly male OCs and so mostly male dolls. I can't understand why. It must be some psychological twitch.

 

My first doll was a FL Pukipuki. They don't have gendered bodies but when I ordered him and picked him out I had intended to have a female. I had intended to have female dolls as obviously male dolls freaked me out at the time (it don't anymore! XD). By the time Set came home, he'd decided to be male.

Frankly, my character picked it. And that's how its been going. If the character calls for a girl, I'll look for girls but I'll genderbend a sculpt for it.

 

I don't like many girl dolls to begin with and the first doll I really fell in love with just happened to be a boy

 

I prefer male dolls, because I think they look more beautiful. If you don't care whether your first doll is male or female, just pick your favorite doll regardless of gender.

Which gender would you enjoy taking pictures of, buying clothes for, and possibly painting if you decide to do a face-up? Compare pictures of some of your favorite BJDs and my advice is to go with the one that stands out to you. The more research you do, the more you know what you are looking for in a doll.

I guess it is all in preference. You will find lots of nice dolls but when you find "The One" you will know. Whether it is a boy or girl will then just come with it. Just find what you love, gender just narrows it down.

 

Hmm...It's been a while, and I have horrible memory, but I think this is how it went:
I originally didn't quite have a plan, I just wanted a doll...then I think I started thinking more seriously about a boy doll. Then when I started looking around at different companies, I went for a girl doll, because for every 10 boy dolls I found and liked, there was 1 girl doll I really liked. So, I figured, with the one girl doll I found that I really, really, liked, it meant that I'd like her enough to get her, so I did.

Now, I just have a mixture of boy and girl dolls. I say, when you get your first doll, buy the one you fall in love with, not the gender.

 

When I bought my first doll, I wasn't set on any gender. I just got the mold that appealed to me most at that time and this doll happened to be a boy. If it would have been a girl, I would have got her instead.

Basically that's how I have kept it till today. I never shop looking specifically for one gender or the other, I just go by what appeals to me most on first sight.

- I was asked if I will ever get a girl doll, I had one at the time. So, yes sometimes.

- Not really, when I was younger I didn't play a lot with dolls, they're more surprised I have them then what gender they are.

- I would say, at the beginning, I liked more of the guy dolls than the girls.

 

Hmm. I DO prefer men... but as for dolls, I want both. HOWEVER, right now all I have are boy dolls (except for one tiny girl) because my girls are still on layaway or being shipped...
I figure that except for one couple, my boys all have girlfriends I like dressing girls, making clothes for them etc (maybe because I'm a girl?) but I like posing & photographing my boys I guess that's why I got them first.
If I had to choose just one, it definitely would be one of my boys (just not sure which).

I like boys and girls but girls are my first choice cause I like dressing them up .
If I could spend more freely I'd get a boy but there are always new girls that get on my wishlist that I (at that moment) wanna have first =_=.

I prefer female dolls. I find more dolls I like to be female than male (face and body), can relate to them more and find them more pleasing.

I just react more to girl dolls, so it just came naturally. I don't know when exactly that was. I never asked myself that.

My boy friend once asked me, why do I have boy-dolls... At first he actually thought, they were girls xD
Well, he found that strange and my mother as well... But one of my friends who also wants to buy a boy-doll perfectly understands me...

I think I prefer this gender, because there not a lot boy-dolls out there... so it's kinda original...)

Boys definitely. I am a big yaoi lover and an anime/manga fan. It was the bishies in manga/anime that attracted me to BJDs. In fact, I turned one of my gal sculpt into a boy.

Exactly why I prefer boys... Which stems from my obsession over bishies from anime/manga. And I'm a huge fangirl.
