To those Who Own Only or Prefer One Gender Over the Other

Jun 3, 2008

    1. 1) What gender do you prefer & why?
I prefer ladies over dudes every time. I just don't find male dolls appealing, so I've never bought one.
      2) Do people ever ask you about your preference?
      Negative
      3) What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference?
That I find the female form much nicer and more visually appealing than the male.
      4) Do other's think it's weird that you have this preference?
No one's really enquired about it, but I think that people might understand where I was coming from at an artistic point of view.
      5) When & How did you discover that you prefered this gender over the other?
Ever since I started drawing as a child, I have preferred portraying females in all my artistic pursuits - it stands to reason that I would prefer them in doll form as well.

    2. 1) What gender do you prefer and why?
My doll plans are actually split evenly with regards to gender right now, but I automatically gravitate towards the girls most of the time. I find most doll sculpts to be fairly androgynous when unpainted, but it's harder for me to find male body sculpts I like and I have more trouble with their wig and clothing choices as well. This preference seems to be limited to figurines and BJDs; I draw slightly more girls in art, but in general, I like male characters more.

(This is all purely for my own dolls; I love and admire all dolls equally when they belong to other people. ^^)

      2) Do people ever ask you about your preference?
      Not so far!

      3) What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference?
...apparently I like boobs? Facetious but true!

      4) Do others think it's weird that you have this preference?
Not that I'm aware of. I'm really not worried if they do. At the end of the day, I doubt anybody is going to sic the gender police onto me for a bunch of dolls.

      5) When and how did you discover that you prefer this gender over the other?
I originally got into this hobby to try and shell two of my original (male) characters as dolls, and promptly fell in love with a female sculpt. And then another female sculpt. And another one. It took me months before I found tentative sculpts for my boys, and I'm still not sure of those choices. My first boy doll is arriving soon, and I'm kind of freaked out he won't live up to my expectations.

      ...man, these questions sound funny out of context. ^^;

    3. 1) What gender do you prefer & why?

Looking at my collection it's easy to say: Male dolls ;)
I only own one girl so far (and a girl faceplate), and even my DZ Gugu (who is a plant actually) has a male name.
Most of my characteres are male and it's for me also harder to find a female mold I really, really like.
So far I still need two female characters, of which one will look like a man and also behave like one :I
The other is a real court lady with huge frilly dresses etc.
My girlfriend and roomate however has a even group of 5 female/5 male (and a robot) dolls, and often my male dolls are the counterparts to her female dolls. I also usually use her female dolls when I need my "I WANT A GIIIRL T_T" fix :XD:

I think the reason I mostly have males has also to do with the way I started the hobby. As soon as you have two of a gender (and same size/style) they can start sharing clothes. My only girl is also my only MSD, so everything I buy for her is exclusively for her.

      2) Do people ever ask you about your preference?
      Nope, they never did.

      3) What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference?
I'd tell them about my two stories and that somehow my men always ended as the counterpart to a female doll a friend of mine has and that I actually wish sometimes I had more girls, but that girls I like are for me harder to find :C

      4) Do other's think it's weird that you have this preference?
Not as far as I know XD

      5) When & How did you discover that you prefered this gender over the other?
Before I had a set story and when I first started buying dolls I always had a girl planned as my next one but suddenly a big, pretty guy appeared that I bought instead.
My first girl and only girl however was a "Love at first sight" thing and I just bought her without thinking about it twice, and she's also one of my favourits among my dolls :)

    4. 1) What gender do you prefer & why?
I prefer girls. I only like MSD and Yo-Sd also. For some reason boy dolls just don't give me the same feeling as a girl. I have been thinking about getting a one boy with all my ladies, but haven't found any that I like enough...
      2) Do people ever ask you about your preference?
No one has ever questioned my decicion to get only girls. I guess other people with the same hobby don't really care wether I have boys or girls.
      3) What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference?
I would just say that I like female dolls because it's easier for me to dress them and to create characters. For a boy, I think it would be much harder. I also like pink and lace, and can't see myself dressing a boy doll in either, so hence the girls :D
      4) Do other's think it's weird that you have this preference?
I haven't noticed anyone thinking I'm weird. And if someone thinks me weird then that's their problem. I personally would think there is something weird about thinking that it's weird to have only dolls with specific gender...
      5) When & How did you discover that you prefered this gender over the other?

Somehow I just always new that I want mostly girl dolls. I have never even had a boy doll since I'm really not sure if I would have the same interest in boys as I do for girls. But I will try to find a suitable boy-doll and see how I take to it :)

    5. 1.- What gender do you prefer & why?

I prefer to have male dolls over female dolls. I judge female dolls very harshly, I have expectations for them to fit a mold that does not exist. I learned that, I am more loving and relaxed if I have male dolls.

2.- Do people ever ask you about your preference?

Yes, sometimes my friends might ask.

3.- What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference?

I respond with, "girls are so complicated!" I love buying boy clothes, as I myself already dress very girly.

4- Do others think it's weird that you have this preference?

Yes, most of the people I know feel that dolls should be girls

5-When & How did you discover that you preferred this gender over the other?

I discovered this about myself when it took me two years of searching to find the perfect female doll sculpt. When it came to buy a doll I compulsively bought a male instead. It has been harmony from there!

    6. 1) What gender do you prefer & why?
-I was drawn more to the boy dolls than the girls when I was still looking into buying a bjd. My only doll's a boy.
      2) Do people ever ask you about your preference?
      -Nope.
      3) What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference?
-I would tell them that I preferred boy dolls more.
      4) Do others think it's weird that you have this preference?
      -*shrug*
      5) When & How did you discover that you preferred this gender over the other?
-I never really planned on getting a female doll to begin with. I also didn't really want to sew for a doll that typically had bigger chest and hip measurements, nor did I ever have the experience to.

    7. I have always prefered guys. When I was a kid, my friends and I would dream of getting marry and having kids and I clearly remember that I always said "I want to have only boys"

      1) What gender do you prefer & why?

As you can see above, I always liked boys better since I was a child. I never liked dolls (they were all female)...I don't know why is this way but it is. I want to clarify that while I prefer males, I don't hate females. Ironically, I always got along better with my female cousins.

      2) Do people ever ask you about your preference?
Not really...a friend of mine asked me once if I wanted a female doll but I told her "no". There were no further questions.

      3) What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference?
It's just the way it is.

      4) Do other's think it's weird that you have this preference?
No one has said anything in my face....

      5) When & How did you discover that you prefered this gender over the other?
When I was like 5 year old hehe

Just for the record, I have a pukipuki female and I love her to death. She was the one who broke the ice for me and I'm currently waiting on a MSD female doll. I bought her because I love her face and let's see if I can bond with her as I did with my boys. Another reason why I got her is because after I got my little girl, I felt refreshed^^ I realized that only boys was kind of dull and that a woman would lighten up things a bit.

So, I always lean towards the boy but when I get a girl I love her! so far I will have 7 boys and 2 girls soon but my wishlist has like 2 girls out of 10 boys lol

    8. 1) What gender do you prefer & why?

Male. I've just always preferred males. Even most of my pets have been/are male.

      2) Do people ever ask you about your preference?

      So far, only here.

      3) What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference?

      "I prefer males."

      4) Do other's think it's weird that you have this preference?

Anyone who knows me will just nod and agree.

      5) When & How did you discover that you preferred this gender over the other?

Pretty sure I was born this way. ...

    9. Though my first doll was a boy (based on my first and favorite OC) all the rest that I have planned are girls. I'm finding that when I look at things to get or make for my dolls I gravitate towards the ruffles and frills that fit the girls better. I think I just enjoy sewing women's clothing more and I don't think I'd find enough of interest in the hobby if I didn't have girls~

    10. 1) What gender do you prefer and why?
I prefer boys. I'm not really sure why, I've just always had a preference for them.

      2) Do people ever ask you about your preference?
      No, no one's ever asked.

      3) What would you tell someone who asked about your preference?
Are they asking about which is my preference or why it's my preference? I would happily tell them that I prefer male dolls, and I would tell them that male sculpts are more aesthetically pleasing to me. It isn't that female dolls are ugly, I just prefer males.

      4) Do others think it's weird that you have this preference? I think they do. I was telling my one friend about the new doll I ordered, and when I told her it was a boy she asked me why I didn't get a girl. I told her (quite honestly) that I was thinking about getting a girl but I was too scared to. She thought that was odd but didn't respond further after I told her it was because I wouldn't know what to do with her:sweat

5)When & how did you discover that you preferred this gender over the other?
I've always preferred males, from favourite characters to only reading books where the main character is female (unless the book is up to my standards) so I'm not really sure.

    11. 1) What gender do you prefer & why?
I much prefer girls to boys, because aesthetically they're the only ones that generally appeal to me.

      2) Do people ever ask you about your preference?

I'm not particularly outspoken about the hobby but no one that knows me has asked yet.

      3) What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference?

That I just prefer girl dolls. >.< Most of the time I find the overly pretty boys just too creepy.

      4) Do others think it's weird that you have this preference?
      Not that I know of.

      5) When & How did you discover that you preferred this gender over the other?
Well, ever since I found BJDs I've had a definite preference of girl dolls over boy dolls and even now I still have it so it's just the way it is. Mostly I can't find the sort of super manly looking guys I want anyway so I'll stick to my babes for now. They're so pretty~!

    12. 1) What gender do you prefer & why? I prefer boys simply because I find boys more appealing. I like men, I like having beautiful men that I can keep around me. If I had a girl, I'd just feel spiteful of her because I'm envious by nature and she'd be prettier than I. Plus, I dislike most female sculpts.
      2) Do people ever ask you about your preference? Not if they know me. lol.
      3) What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference? That I prefer having beautiful men over women. D: Men > Women.
      4) Do other's think it's weird that you have this preference? Not particularly.
      5) When & How did you discover that you prefered this gender over the other? I've known it....since.....as far as I can remember, I suppose. I've always been this way. I have tons of girl dolls, but I never really bonded with any. When I got Philippe, I can hardly keep my hands off of him.

    13. 1) What gender do you prefer & why?
I generally always buy girls. I own one boy doll and he's actually a girl sculpt on a boy body. Most boys just aren't what I'm looking for- too manly or usually way too girly. I'm too picky.

      2) Do people ever ask you about your preference?
      No.

      3) What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference?
That I find I like girls over boys, for their form and clothing etc (I don't cross-dress boys).

      4) Do others think it's weird that you have this preference?
      Not that I know of.

      5) When & How did you discover that you prefered this gender over the other?
I've always been better at drawing females than males, and I find myself drawn to girl dolls the most. When I find the right boy I'll get him, but when it comes down to it I almost always choose the girl over the boy. I'm very picky about my boys; there are many I like to look at, but fewer that I'd actually want to own.

    14. 1) What gender do you prefer & why?
I prefer girls, but mostly because I can't find many boy sculpts that I like. I am pickier with a boy sculpt than I am with a girl sculpt. However, even if there were lots I like, I would still probably have more girls. Maybe because I am a girl, I can bond with them better? Or maybe it's some left over thing from childhood and wanting all my toys to be girls because girls are better (nya nya!) But really, it's mostly the sculpt thing.

      2) Do people ever ask you about your preference?
Not yet. I have had people ask about my preference for drawing women as opposed to men. I am not good at drawing guys. That is why.

      3) What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference?
Pretty much what I said above. No boy sculpts that I like.

      4) Do other's think it's weird that you have this preference?
Nope, it makes sense to me. I don't think it reflects your sexuality at all, but rather just what you're drawn to creatively.

      5) When & How did you discover that you preferred this gender over the other?
Mmmm when I was looking on the internet for my first doll and I didn't see any boys I liked.

    15. I tried to buy both genders, but invariably was drawn to the boys. I don't know why, but I don't like the girls as much. I've tried getting several only to dislike them in person and have to re-sell them. I do have one girl, my soom minette/appini hybrid-but she's hyper special-my birthday doll and a shelf baby. I tend to drag one boy or another around with me sometime. No one asks, but I get lots of comments on my 'girl dolls' because several of them are girly or have long wigs. Doesn't bother me though.

    16. 1) What gender do you prefer & why?
I prefer male/boy dolls... I guess because I'm a girl, so I feel it balances me? Say at DollHeart, you'd send $100 or more on an adorable dress but I think I rather spend that money buying myself an adorable dress LOL! As for a boy, I could spend $100 getting him a dazzling suit but that's fine because I don't wear suits. Just an example, if that makes sense?

      2) Do people ever ask you about your preference?
      No actually, not once o.O

      3) What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference?
I'd tell them what I said in #1... I prefer male dolls because I rather save girly money on me ;)
I also would say that I just prefer the male sculpts & such better.

      4) Do other's think it's weird that you have this preference?

      Donno, you tell me...

      5) When & How did you discover that you prefered this gender over the other?

Since I ever first found BJD's! I visited the Iplehouse website for the first time ever and I was only interested in the male dolls. I find the girl dolls beautiful and very well made but I just rather look at a bunch of handsome men XD So, I just... knew. It's always been that way!

    17. What gender do you prefer & why?

Female dolls seem to overrun my house, I'm trying to find more males that I like.

Do people ever ask you about your preference?

Not as yet, but in all honesty the people around me don't seem to get why I collect them.

What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference?

Just that there have been more female sculpts that I was drawn to, and when I find more males that I like then I will buy them.

Do other's think it's weird that you have this preference?

No, I just only buy dolls that I really like and most of those happen to be female.

When & How did you discover that you prefered this gender over the other?

Last week I was looking at my dolls and realised that I have more females.

    18. for a long time I thought I would only ever get girl BJD,
Before I found my first doll the dolls I fell for were DOD Shall and Delf Soony.
I loved those but they just weren't IT. So I kept looking at other girl dolls.

Until I fell absolutely in LOVE with ........... Dollshe Saint.
So my first doll turned out to be decidedly Male.

Right now 4 out of my 13 dolls are male (one is anthro and does not count),
But I also have 3 Male heads on the way, (Dollshe Bernard, Husky and Hound)
So my preference might be slowly shifting if that makes sense?
(Or it might just be my strange LOVE for Dollshe Boys)

    19. 1) What gender do you prefer & why? Female; IMHO, there are more versatile options for hairstyles, clothing, and shoes for them.
      2) Do people ever ask you about your preference? Not yet.
      3) What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference? See answer to #1 above.
      4) Do other's think it's weird that you have this preference? No.
      5) When & How did you discover that you preferred this gender over the other? Years ago when I realized that I had many more female OCs (original characters) than male ones.

    20. 1) What gender do you prefer & why?
I prefer male dolls mpostly... It's more that I write male characters better than female ones than a mater of faces, to be honest. There are numerous girl dolls I love but I don't buy dolls I can't shell my OCs in.

      2) Do people ever ask you about your preference?
On occasion they might, especially my mother. She doesn't really ask, but rather goes 'you don't have many ladies' instead.

      3) What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference?
Nothing really? I have enough dolls for my taste and that should suffice.

      4) Do other's think it's weird that you have this preference?

Not really, I've never encountered someone who thought it was strange so far.

      5) When & How did you discover that you preferred this gender over the other?

Ever since I found out I was more unbiased in writing characters of the opposite gender since I couldn't identify myself as them 100% which made it easier to have them go through hardship when needed. So it's been a long long time ago. My dolls simply follow on that..
