To those Who Own Only or Prefer One Gender Over the Other

Jun 3, 2008

    1. 1) What gender do you prefer & why?

I have 7 girls and 13 boys... with plans for 3 more boys but no more girls. So I guess it'd be safe to say I prefer boy dolls?

      2) Do people ever ask you about your preference?

Not really. My friends tease me about it tho. :)

      3) What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference?

I guess it's that my boys serve more as fantasy devices that the girls. I can "be" the girls myself, in their habits and personalities, but the boys are kind of an outlet for my Mary-Sue tendencies I guess. I suppose I see the boys more as autonomous characters than the girls. No idea why.

      4) Do other's think it's weird that you have this preference?

Not that I know of. Especially since many BJD collectors seem to have this preference.

      5) When & How did you discover that you prefered this gender over the other?

I suppose I play with them more. They get more attention and cuddles, and clothes too... poor girls! Though I do love my girls too.

    2. 1) What gender do you prefer & why?
I prefer boys, just because I feel like I can build more interesting characters around the males. Not to mention I haven't seen a girl that I really like yet.
      2) Do people ever ask you about your preference?
My sister asks why I only look at the males when I surf different sites, but thats about it
      3) What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference?
I prefer males just because I feel like I can do so much with their character
      4) Do other's think it's weird that you have this preference?
No, it's just like anything else. Why does someone prefer Starbucks over Tim Hortons? It's just a preference like anything else.
      5) When & How did you discover that you prefered this gender over the other?
I don't know. I just always looked at the males, and that was that. Whenever I looked at the girls I got bored and went back to the guys! xD

    3. Wait, what? Are you serious? I don't care if you claim not to be a homophobe or whatever, but you realize how offensive it is poke at someone's sanity because of their own personal preferances ( and by the way, straight sweet boys can crossdress and eat candies too you know  )? I'm not saying you have to like or agree with gay or girlyboy dolls since I know alot of people don't, but such a comment like this...just-wow.

Ah, and silly me, forgot to post my original answer~

      1) What gender do you prefer & why? Most definately boy dolls, my three dolls at home are boys with two more boys planned. I suppose I would like to get a girl doll maybe someday way off in the future since I know ever since I got into this hobby my dad has loved the idea of me getting a girl to dress up all pretty. I think I prefer the boys since they are all based after characters I have created and I've found I like to create boy characters alot more than girls. I think they're just easier to relate to for me and I have a much easier time creating likeable and thorough personalities for them as opposed to girls who I always find to be flat or boring.
      2) Do people ever ask you about your preference? About why I like boy dolls? Um, not really. My dad does occasionally hint at me getting a girl doll next though ^^
      3) What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference? Simply that it's easier for me to relate to and adore my male characters than it is female characters.
      4) Do other's think it's weird that you have this preference? Why should it be? I'm a straight girl. And I like boys. Wow. Weird. ( not insinuating that straight girls can't prefer girl dolls, just saying is all x3 )
      5) When & How did you discover that you prefered this gender over the other? Ever since I've started writing and making up stories ( which has been pretty much since I coud think in coherent sentences ) I've always had male main characters. I can only remember one short story I wrote in 6th grade where a female was the protaganist but I didn't have any sort of emotional investment in her like I do the boys I can created now.

    4. i am yet to own a doll, but what the heck, i can still answer XD

      1) What gender do you prefer & why? male...because im a girl who likes her bishies XD
      2) Do people ever ask you about your preference? your the first XD
      3) What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference? i like males... 8D
      4) Do other's think it's weird that you have this preference? nope. alot of people prefer males over females. it would be interesting if you set up a poll ;P
      5) When & How did you discover that you prefered this gender over the other? seeing my friends hot looking BJDS, about half a year ago =)

    5. I'm in the middle of saving up for my first doll, but i thought it'd be fun to do.

      1) What gender do you prefer & why?
Female. I have a very strong ideas which i want in any of my dolls and it's always girl related :x. But I would definetly love to own a male later on :D

      2) Do people ever ask you about your preference? Nope.

      3) What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference? Girls are easier to understand, since i am one myself.

      4) Do other's think it's weird that you have this preference? Hm, Not really. As you've discovered, Everyone has there prefrences :sweat

      5) When & How did you discover that you prefered this gender over the other? Well, The first ever BJD i saw was a girl, where just red and black. It was so gorgeous.. I kinda fell in love. I think it still plays a part in the preference of mine :aheartbea

    6. 1) What gender do you prefer & why?
Boys it seems. I have one of each at the moment, but I have another boy ordered and on the way. I love my girl, but I still favour my boy over her.
It's sort of funny really, I got a boy doll with an extra head, to turn into my girl. I figured I'd like girls more because I like making women's clothing more and the female body is usually what I choose for art when it's not plants. I've taken to the boy dolls so much more though.
I like a lot of pretty game, manga and fantasy characters, so I figure this must be an extension of that. I don't tend to find them attractive in real life, I prefer the 'manly' more masculine looking males as mates.
I figure I don't make much sense, but I do like boy dolls more :)

      2) Do people ever ask you about your preference?
Not really. My friend asked why I had a change of heart, since I was right there with her being all about the girl dolls before I got one, but that's about it.

      3) What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference?
Everything I just said, or plain out that it's just a preference.

      4) Do other's think it's weird that you have this preference?
Not so much weird, as unexpected, since females are such a focus otherwise. Mostly people just find it weird that I'm over 20 and have dolls.

      5) When & How did you discover that you prefered this gender over the other?
After I got my boy and put my girl together then noticed how much I prefer my boy, and how another boy doll won out for what doll I needed to get next. Though in all honesty, I do like both genders quite a bit.

    7. 1) What gender do you prefer & why?

Males, definitely. Because they're little resin hotties.

      2) Do people ever ask you about your preference?

Mmm.. anyone who knows me enough to ask about my dolls would know right off the bat why I like the boys.

      3) What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference?

I'd tell them to visit my yaoi website and it will all become clear. heehee

      4) Do other's think it's weird that you have this preference?

It's never come up, but again, any of my friends that know I have these dolls, know I'm a complete fangirl. It would be incredibly weird for me to start buying lots of girl dolls. I'd like to get one eventually, so I can do naughty photoshoots :XD: but I haven't found a sculpt yet that doesn't look like an overgrown barbie to me, or too young-looking for my purposes. There are some nice girls in the Galleries, but theres always some feature about them that bugs me enough that I couldn't buy one.

But yeah... I don't think its weird for a female to like to have attractive little men around the house. tee hee

      5) When & How did you discover that you prefered this gender over the other?

I discovered I like men at a nice young age :wiggle I didn't even consider a female for my first doll.

ahhh.... I should probably mention that I do have a BC Pepe that I consider female. But she's so abnormal that it doesn't count!

    8. 1) What gender do you prefer & why?
I definitely prefer male dolls. I'm not sure why. I've yet to find a female sculpt that I like. I mean, I'm planning a girl doll... with a Shiwoo head. >.< I do kind of like the SOOM Dia sculpt, but it seems to be agreed that it's a bit masculine. :sweat

      2) Do people ever ask you about your preference?
Not yet. No one really knows, as far as I know.

      3) What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference?
"All those girls are just too flippin' girly. What use do I have for a girl girl?"

      4) Do others think it's weird that you have this preference?
No. It probably doesn't seem all that weird to people.

      5) When & How did you discover that you prefered this gender over the other?
When I started looking around for my first doll. I just don't really like most of the girls out there.

    9. 1) What gender do you prefer & why?
I prefer boys, because many girls have many head-molds I just don't like D:'
(looking too cute or more like an alien than a cute girl >_>')

      2) Do people ever ask you about your preference?
      No, not really '_'

      3) What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference?

"That's my own decisionif I like boys more than girls" XD

      4) Do other's think it's weird that you have this preference?
No, why? I mean, when the most boys look (in my eyes) better than the girls, why should this be weird?XD'

      5) When & How did you discover that you prefered this gender over the other?
After I looked at many dolls and get dissapointed because it's hard for me to find a girl which I really like :(

    10. With my next girl, I think I will have 4 girls and one boy. Haha! At one point, I only had one girl and three boys. So I really have no preference. I just fall in love with dolls. I'm planning on one more boy, and then I'm done.

    11. 1) What gender do you prefer & why?-- I prefer boys over girls

      2) Do people ever ask you about your preference?-- the only one who really asks is my boyfriend, haha. He's paranoid I like them more because I can make them to be the perfect looking guy

      3) What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference?-- I just like them better! I would explain that in most things I prefer boys (including my orientation). Fir instance, I almost never take a liking to female characters in movies, games, books, anime etc.

      4) Do other's think it's weird that you have this preference?-- Not as much the dolls I guess, but not many people know I'm into BJDs yet. They think my hatred for most female video game characters is odd though.

      5) When & How did you discover that you prefered this gender over the other?-- To me female dolls are just eh. Many are very pretty with nice face ups and outfits, but the molds themselves just don't appeal to me, whereas I noticed I loved soooo many boy dolls.

    12. 1) What gender do you prefer & why?

*stares at collection and planned dolls* Err... boys? I currently have three boys, at least two more planned and one girl :/ I don't really know why. I think it's because I am fascinated by androgynity, and I find the dollboys to fall into that category much more than the female dolls. The only female I want is Soom's Dia, and her character is an androgynish sort of person. Besides, I think pre-teenaged boys are very pretty (before they get all gangly and moronic, and I don't mean this in a sexual manner, only aesthetically mind you).

Besides, I'm uber feminine myself, I don't want a replica of me in dollform, I want something different! Boys are different.

      2) Do people ever ask you about your preference?

That has yet to occur. I think.

      3) What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference?

"Pretty boys are pretty. I like pretty. And never you mind."

      4) Do other's think it's weird that you have this preference?

Nope, why would it be? LOADS of girls like pretty boys.

      5) When & How did you discover that you prefered this gender over the other?

I suppose it was around the time I started to not even bother looking at girl sculpts anymore because I knew it would just all be the same bore with pouty lips, big eyes and frilly dresses (though I do want Iplehouse's Tania)

    13. I only have/want boys. I've just been boy crazy my whole life!

    14. 1) What gender do you prefer & why?
I have so many more boys, I guess boy would be the obvious answer. It's not completely true though; I'm just more picky about girl sculpts and find it hard to find girls that I like. I've just ordered a new girl and have another one planned. Finally someone to wear the pretty frocks! Apart from one, the girls I do have a quite tomboy-y.

      2) Do people ever ask you about your preference?
      no

      3) What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference?
      I would say No.1, I guess.

      4) Do other's think it's weird that you have this preference?
I wouldn't know. I think most female BJD collectors accumulate boys rather than girls. I think its weird myself, only in the respect that I'd like to have more girl dolls... but don't.

      5) When & How did you discover that you prefered this gender over the other?
Not quite sure how it happened. My first doll was a girl, my second a boy. I think that when I first started building my collection, most companies were releasing mainly boy dolls - which I think is still true today (correct me if I'm wrong).

    15. 1) What gender do you prefer & why?
Definitely boys. There are plenty of real girls to look at in real life that are pretty, but there aren't many boys. Plus I'd probably get annoyed and jealous of it, then feel really pathetic for being jealous of an inanimate object.

      2) Do people ever ask you about your preference?
No, people would think it was weird if I got a female doll, though.

      3) What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference?
No one who knows me well enough to know about the dolls themselves would ever ask.

      4) Do other's think it's weird that you have this preference?
      No.

      5) When & How did you discover that you prefered this gender over the other?
I've never even seriously considered getting a female bjd. Oddly enough, I like Pullips and Dals, but I think it's because they look so unrealistic.

      • x 1
    16. 1) What gender do you prefer & why?
Male. I'm a little unsure as to why, but I've never had more than a passing consideration of female dolls(other than Pikis, but they're so tiny as to be all but genderless to me) I seem to be offput that they're fairly distinctly female(resin chests and all). I prefer the more androgynous boys, the sculpts that can be nudged in either direction. It probably has something to do with the fact that I think of myself as neutral most of the time...even though I'm a girl(fairly distinctly so, fleshy-human chest and all)

      2) Do people ever ask you about your preference?
      Yup.

      3) What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference?
My joking response to those who ask(who are never into bjds themselves) is that I like them questionable. If that isn't answer enough I ramble vaguely that if I feel like dressing them as male, I can, as female, I can. It gets me strange looks, but stops the questions. (No attempts will ever be made to explain 'personalities' to the general public.)

      4) Do other's think it's weird that you have this preference?
...no. But I know my baseline of weird is set higher than most.

      5) When & How did you discover that you prefered this gender over the other?
More or less immediately. Female sculpts provoked an "oh, pretty" reaction. Really masculine ones earned a "Oh, he's nice." Softer boys (think Delf) got an instant "WANT" that has been around for years and isn't going anywhere that I can tell.

    17. 1) What gender do you prefer & why?
~Although I do have a girl doll (and for the moment she is my only one) I think I prefer the boys. I have always been kind of a tomboy myself, so to have a guy doll feels more natural than having a girl one.

      2) Do people ever ask you about your preference?
~ No one has really ever asked me about my preference, but I think it's obvious to my parents and friends which gender I prefer. I seem to only point out the boy dolls, I don't really ever ask for girls, and I'm constantly wanting a boy.

      3) What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference?
~ Guy dolls better suit my personality.

      4) Do other's think it's weird that you have this preference?
~ No one has really ever said anything about me preferring boys. I just hope that once I do get a boy doll I don't push my girl aside.

      5) When & How did you discover that you preferred this gender over the other?
~ Before I ever owned a doll. I was looking through websites daily, and I just fell in love with all the beautiful boys. The girls were pretty, but the boys just grabbed my attention.

    18. 1) What gender do you prefer & why?
      5) When & How did you discover that you prefered this gender over the other?
      I'm answering 1 and 5 together.
I have all girl dolls at the moment, and I definitely prefer them! They get all the pretty wigs and clothes. With the few boy dolls I had, I always found the clothing choices "boring" or "too expensive." I'm not that into male fashion, so I never felt the need to buy the boys anything! So eventually they got rehomed. I'd still like to own a boy doll, I just don't feel the need to have more than a couple, while I want a bunch of adorable girls. I also like many more girl sculpts than boy sculpts. My dream guy doll is Yukinojo, and I can't afford him anyway! So I have to admire him from afar.
      2) Do people ever ask you about your preference?
      Not really.
      3) What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference?
That I like all the floofy girly stuff better!
      4) Do other's think it's weird that you have this preference?
Err, not to my face? Anyone who knows me knows I like pink sparkly girly stuff anyway. I doubt liking girl dolls the most comes as a surprise.

    19. 1) What gender do you prefer & why?
      I prefer girls. I don't really know why...I guess I just do.

      2) Do people ever ask you about your preference?
No one has ever asked me. I haven't really talked about it a lot though.

      3) What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference?
I'm not really sure what I would say. I could just tell them that...I like girl dolls more?

      4) Do other's think it's weird that you have this preference?
      Not that I know of...

      5) When & How did you discover that you prefered this gender over the other?
I always preferred girl dolls, even when I was younger and didn't know about BJDs.

    20. I prefer girl dolls. I am a long-time fashion doll collector, so I suppose I'm just not over the "boys as arm candy" mentality yet. Also, I haven't seen a whole lot of male sculpts I really like, nor have I found a lot of patterns for making boy clothes with. My finances are such that I can buy either dolls or clothes, so most of my dollie outfits I will make myself so that is another reason for preferring the girl dolls.

If I ever found a boy sculpt I really, really, liked I would buy him tho. The other thing is I haven't quite settled on if I'm mostly going for MSD size or SD size. I really do not have the space to buy larger than 60 cm and most of the male sculpts that have interested me have been on the larger dolls.
