To those Who Own Only or Prefer One Gender Over the Other

1) What gender do you prefer & why?
I prefer Males, There is just something about them that I enjoy and find attractive, plus I have more male characters, but I do like some girl dolls.
2) Do people ever ask you about your preference? Nope, not really. My dad kind of ask why I don't have interest in any girl dolls.
3) What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference?
I wouldn't really have an explanation. xD
4) Do other's think it's weird that you have this preference?

Girls, for sure. I like girly things a lot and I understand women better. To me, a lot of male sculpts look much too feminine to me, so I would have a hard time developing their character. I like male dolls to look like men, and I hardly ever find a sculpt that looks that way to me. Except maybe Souldoll Chiru...WANT WANT WANT.

2) Do people ever ask you about your preference?

Nope. I don't think many people know that I own dolls.

3) What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference?

I would explain question 1 to them.

4) Do other's think it's weird that you have this preference?

Considering most of my friends are males, maybe, but I think it is a struggle for me to maintain my feminine side while I am constantly dealing with testosterone driven male friends. I've always liked dolls though...

5) When & How did you discover that you prefered this gender over the other?

Earlier this year when I was going to purchase my first doll. I decided that I had no ideas for male characters. I may purchase a male doll in the future, but it is unlikely.

Female - I'm really into the whole fashion aspect of dolls and I have a thing for lace, ribbons, and polka dots so preferring a female was a given from the start.

2) Do people ever ask you about your preference? No, I think people can tell just by my personality that I prefer female dolls the best. xD

3) What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference? I would just say I'm really, REALLY into crazy-princess, frilly, Betsey Johnson female fashion and that female BJDs are a creative fashion outlet for me.

I knew this from the start as my answer to question 1 is what attracted me to female BJDs.

Of the 52 dolls on my wishlist right now, only four of them are male. @_@ I grew up with girl dolls and I love them still! Like many here, I tend to attribute a personality or character to my dolls, and I find females easier to relate to and bond with. Also, I've had a hard time finding many male sculpts I like, which is strange considering the variety available.

2) Do people ever ask you about your preference?
No. Among my doll friends, it's not something we've ever really discussed.

3) What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference?
Probably what I've already mentioned - I just feel a better connection with girl dolls, and more of their sculpts appeal to me (vast understatement!).

4) Do other's think it's weird that you have this preference?
No one's ever asked, but I doubt anyone would find it strange. Most dolls in general are female, after all.

5) When & How did you discover that you prefered this gender over the other?
I used to think that with BJDs, I'd have more of an equal balance between the genders due to my mindset, "Okay, there are more male dolls available out there; inevitably, there'll be a lot that I like!" Not so with me, for some reason! I think I realized after I bought my third or fourth doll that I just wasn't feeling as strongly towards my male dolls as I was towards my female. Not that I don't love them; I cherish the two I have, but will not be buying many more in the future.

 

1) What gender do you prefer & why? Males, though I do really like females. I plan on getting my boys before my girls >w<;; Why? Mm. Because the dolls make good prettyboys (is this bad of me to say it? ahaha) ... what can I say? I like guys. But seriously though ... my other big reason is because I love men's fashion, menswear, all that. I have more fun dressing guys most of the time.

2) Do people ever ask you about your preference? Not until now, I don't think? I'm pretty sure I've discussed it with my friend however. I know that we have in a general context--whether we prefer male or female characters. She prefers females, I prefer males. *shrug*
3) What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference? "i liek d00dz." No, really though? Er, I'd say both, but males moreso. I dunno?
4) Do other's think it's weird that you have this preference? Haha, no, I think it makes sense.
5) When & How did you discover that you prefered this gender over the other? When all my OCs were guys, haha. But to be perfectly honest right now one of my favourites is a female, so yeah.

 

I guess I prefer girl dolls. Originally I wanted a boy, but opted for a girl for reasons I still don't know. I passed up my dream doll to get a female, my Lishe.
It's probably because she's easier to design clothes for her. I can make a ton for her, but with my boy (the dream doll), it's only really shirts and pants because of his style.

I have a mix of males and females in my doll family, but I prefer female dolls overall.

No, nobody has ever questioned my preference, I've never discussed it either.

The fact that I prefer female dolls over males, although I'm quite the tomboy, the main reason is because I have a strong interest regarding female fashion and the likes, and their sculpts appeal to me more.

No, not at all, I believe that everyone is entitled to their own preferences and interest.

05. When & How did you discover that you prefered this gender over the other?
I discovered it when I was more into male dolls in the beginning. In the end, though I liked majority of the male dolls, I couldn't see myself owning most of them. Although my family consists evenly of both genders, and I love them all equally, I still feel more attracted to female sculpts.

sometimes! as Im male I suppose people expect me to have male dolls.

I had SD and MSD.both male dolls.Couldn't bond with them at all.So eventually brought 2 MSD girls and really love them both!

i prefer male dolls. cos they are pretty! female dolls are pretty too, but thats what you get to see around you. i dont get to see much pretty guys at my place. so yea xD

1) What gender do you prefer & why? Girls, mostly. I do have 2 boys, though. I have a very hard time photographing my boys for some reason.

2) Do people ever ask you about your preference? No, probably because I drool over boy dolls just as much as the girls.

3) What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference? I would say the same as I did in the first question - boys are just harder to photograph for me.

4) Do other's think it's weird that you have this preference? No. I have friends that have all boy dolls, and friends that have all girl dolls. So I don't think it's strange at all, and neither do they.

5) When & How did you discover that you prefered this gender over the other? The first doll I fell for was a boy, but I have never bought him even though he is general release. I've seen him many times in-person, and he's beautiful; but to me he's somewhat of a grail. I can look, but I cannot possess him. My first 2 dolls came as a set of a boy and a girl. I thought I would be more drawn to the boy, but I found myself more drawn to the girl ... so that's how it all started with the girls, I suppose.

I like the male dolls. I find the male dolls (especially the larger ones) have more character to their sculpts. I also have an easier time creating male characters.

No. I get questions about why I am buying expensive dolls at my age.

I'd tell them I just haven't found many girls that I really like yet.

Just my one niece. She's young and rather play with girl dolls.

After I bought my sixth doll, and looked back and realised that I only had one girl.

I have only one girl at the momment but the next doll I am buying is going to be a boy which i prefer.I think i like the boys better because that how i feel in real life as well i'm a girl but i've always gotten on better with guys possibly becuase i never really grew up with many girls and the ones i did have never been very nice so that is reflected in my choice of future dolls

My mother likes girls better becuase she thinks they have a wider range of clothes you can design for them but i prefer designing and making clothes for boys

Erm thats a hard question , not really sure no one has ever asked

not really i've noticed that alot of ppl wil have maybe 1 or 2 girls and alot more boys

I noticed that i tended to always want boy dolls as girl dolls just didn't appeal to me as much i couldn't see them as my little resin friends so to speak but the girl i have now i have become very fond of but i doubt i will buy another one

 

I love some of the male dolls, but I think one of the main reasons I don't want to buy one is self-preservation. :P I have a really bad tendency to become infatuated with guys that don't exist, and I really don't need a crush on a doll! So my resolve, for now, is to just admire others' from here.

-Well... hard to say. I only have one so far. I would like to get a female should my budget allow one day... far far away. I like the male torso's more though since all the female breasts I've seen are much too perky for my tastes. ^ ^;;; In fact if I got a female I might just try and put a male torso on it and just have her be flat instead. XD

-When I thought "If I had one of those, what would I want it to look like?" after seeing one at Anime Detour last year.

I tell then girls are prettier and I just don't see the allure to male dolls.

From the start. As soon as I received Mercedes (my Ipsae) I knew I'd only ever collect girls.~

Boys. xD It's always been my nature. All of my dolls are based off of roleplay characters, which are also all boys (at least, the fully developed, most used, and oldest ones are. I have a couple girls that aren't fully developed characters that I don't plan on dollifying.) It's mostly because I'm a yaoi fangirl, and I have a complete storyline going with my best friend. We both have all boys, and they're all pretty much paired with one another.

3) What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference?
That my dolls are based off of roleplay characters, who just happen to be boys.

5) When & How did you discover that you prefered this gender over the other?
Well.. I got a girl doll as one of my older girl characters. Unfortunately, she didn't last long in the household and was sold pretty immediately after I got her body. I figured then that it was best that I stuck with my boys.

I have always prefered girls. Most BJD people I saw in the beginning when I was just learning was preferring boys - and I had a feeling that in a yaoi way, and as i'm not so into that - I decided that if I ever got into the doll business I only get historical type girls.
Actually that has been changed, as I have tought a family of nine sisters and brothers, but I haven't yet found a boy doll for the family that catches my eye.
Then again I dream of a two more girl dolls acutely. I need a adoptive little sister for my, still only, girl doll. And i want a modern day girl doll for a fun.

I only have one doll so nobody knows about it yet.
Although when I have discussed about this hobby with mundane people they have been asking me normal questions about the other doll hobbyists and when I tell them that most of the other BJD fans that I have met, seem prefer boys, even though they might have both sexes in their doll family.

3) What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference?

I would telle them that as I collect clothes in my real life, this way I can extend my collection of women's clothes, with this preference, to my dolls.

normally I would think that my total ignorance of yaoi and japanece music scenes would explain quite quickly why I do not keep boy dolls. And without visual kei or atleast contemporary stret mode boy clothing is quite dull.

As I explained in the first question I decided the gender in the very beginning, when I was not even supposed to get doll crazy, just admire them afar.

 

1) What gender do you prefer & why? I prefer the males. I think it's mainly because I can't find that girl mold that strikes me. I look at them on the boards but I've never gone and gasped. It's really weird...

2) Do people ever ask you about your preference? Not really no. I don't think I've ever been asked...oh wait yeah. My mom asked me why I don't have any girls I like. I said it's because I can't find a soild mold I adore.


3) What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference? I'd tell them the same thing I told my mom. I can't find a good girl mold I like.

4) Do other's think it's weird that you have this preference? Not really, I mean sort of. I have a boy who looks pretty feminine. I just don't see it as strange. I guess because I know a bunch of people who have only males...

5) When & How did you discover that you prefered this gender over the other? I discovered I prefered it after I got my first boy. Shoji (DoC Hoo [f]) really sparked my male love. I've never found a girl mold I liked since I got him. I used to ADORE some of the vampire girls. Then from there I got more out of enjoying them and adoring the male vampires. It's that darn Vampire Shiwoo I tell you...he's what got me totally away from females.

Well yeah I like them better and they are better suited for creating characters. You know they can go both ways (a.i girly boys) And probably also because the majority of the chars from my stories are male too. They're just easy to work with

That I am a male person And the thing from question one.

When & How did you discover that you prefered this gender over the other?
Always liked the male characters better (books, movies etc) -lol- And the fact that I always come up with male personalities for my stories and such.

I prefer girls! This is probably because, honestly, I prefer girls in real life. When I first started looking at bjds, I just didn't really have an desire to get a boy, and I still don't (okay, okay, admittedly, Hounds are starting to grow on me...). Outside of dolls, I find the female body to be much more elegant and complicated than the male body, and that leaks into my love of dolls too.
2) Do people ever ask you about your preference?
Not really so far XD I talked with a couple of my friends about it, and both my mom and my good 'guy-friend' (who is gay, by the way) said that they both thought they would prefer the girl dolls also.
3) What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference?
That I just like the girls more. XD As a general rule of thumb they just look so much more beautiful to me--as I said earlier, the female body is just so much more amazing than the male body.
4) Do other's think it's weird that you have this preference?
No one that I know! Though, admittedly, I'm a pretty "wierd" person, so not much catches my friends and family off gaurd anymore.

Pretty early into my discovery of ABJDs! Almost immediately, I noticed that I generally preferred the girls over the boys, and sometimes wouldn't even bother looking at the boys. Though I always do on the forums, it was always the girl dolls that fascinated me more. And perturbed me less with their 'anatomically correctness' (not that boy dolls shouldn't be anatomically correct! I just don't like boy parts. XD)
