To those Who Own Only or Prefer One Gender Over the Other

1) What gender do you prefer & why?
Purely based on the proportion right now, males. I can't say I started out with a specific preference, it just sort of happened that the dolls I bought were all guys XD. Though I think in having a "man-harem" my girls stand out more.

2) Do people ever ask you about your preference?
No, no one's ever been "y u only buy man dolls?" to me. Though I get jokes about it from close doll friends.

3) What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference?
Hmm, honestly, the guys and their abundance has directly affected the two girls I own, at least story wise, so maybe I'd tell them story building was the reason...Also, I have yet to fall in love with another girl sculpt.

4) Do other's think it's weird that you have this preference?
No, those who have mentioned it do so in a more, well "I'm going to steal one of your boys" type of joke.

5) When & How did you discover that you preferred this gender over the other?
Hah, discovered it hmm, more like I was just never that excited over any other girl sculpts. I think if I hadn't come out of Barbie and then gotten into BJDs, I would probably have never owned a girl doll. Barbies were all girls so it was natural to get a girl for me. After that, I just started with the male characters I had in mind, and no other girl doll really jumped out at me. Certainly there are some really lovely ones out there, but none that made me want to buy the way I have with the boys.

I prefer the female gender dolls... Even though i only have 1 girl now, i know that i do prefer female dolls over male dolls.

2) Do people ever ask you about your preference?
Yes. Most girl dollfie owners in Singapore have boy SDs, and they also prefer boy dolls. and i am one of the few girl owners who's first SD is a girl.
So many doll owners often ask why i got a girl.

3) What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference?
I would say that i don't know why i prefer female dolls, but its just a preference, and sometimes there is no explanation.
Its just like why i prefer chocolate over strawberry, there's no reason.

4) Do other's think it's weird that you have this preference?
Yes they do, most girl owners in my country prefer boy dolls.

5) When & How did you discover that you prefered this gender over the other?
I discovered that i prefer the female gender over the male gender when i was surfing the internet webbies and looking at dolls that i realised i prefer to look and ponder and gaze at female dolls den male dolls, and also, even if i were to look and ogle at male dolls, it would be the girlier male dolls that i prefered, the male dolls with sharp chins.

Females because I just find the female form way more attractive.

Not about dolls, but people have asked why I only draw females and it's for the same reason.

That I find women more attractive than men.

Usually not.

I'm not sure... I used to be anti-gay... then I started realizing I had feelings for another woman... and slowly I realized I plain out like women better (although I'm with a man, haha)

well, i'd definitely say the boys. for one, i adore the effeminate androgyny that is apparent in a good chunk of them, as that's what i find most attractive in real life. then, i also am not fond of doll depictions of girls ever since my days of being force-fed barbies as gifts (when i'd have much rather had those legos my brother got). i also think, for me, it would be a form of a companion, though not in a creepy way, but more of a psychological thing that would keep me happy.
2) Do people ever ask you about your preference?
i doubt they would, or at least, i doubt people i know would, seeing as they know most of the info mentioned above.
3) What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference?
pretty much what i've just said, and also that, it's a preference, i'm allowed to think and do what i want.

no, it's normal, i think.
5) When & How did you discover that you prefered this gender over the other?
well, i pretty much have always preferred male-gendered characters in stories and artwork. something about the male form, for me, is interesting and beautiful beyond words (crazy-talk here...don't mind me...). and to tell the truth, male character's personalities are a thousand times better 99% of the time to me. when i look at dolls for considering what i might want to get, i just head more towards the boys than girls. i don't think too much about it, it's just how i am.

Male. I just get along with males better, enjoy their company more, I even am more drawn to male pets more than females... and I guess that applies to the fact that I am drawn more to male dolls... Maybe is is the whole yin and yang effect.

When I saw my first BJD and when I when I looked at my wish list... lol I think there is maybe one girl on there.

 

I find myself wanting the boy dolls more than the girl ones. I'm not sure why. If I did get it girl it would be the delf Miyu, I find it very hard to find dolls I'd want to own. I do want a cherry girl, but she'd be Hikaru's twin. but my next doll hopefully will be a DOI crush doll. I love him he's so pretty, lol.

 

I prefer female dolls that look androgynous. I guess I am half-way but a little over an inch on the female side.

 

Though I don't have a doll of my own yet, I'm definitely getting a boy as my first. I haven't really thought about it, I think it's because I really like the bishonen "pretty boy" look BJDs usually portray. Also the fact that they're more uncommon when it comes to dolls in general (think Barbie vs Ken) and to a lot of people when they think "doll" they think girl, so it's fascinating to see a male look so natural in doll form when I haven't thought about it before knowing about ABJDs. That's only my opinion of course, I could be wrong. xD

Yeah, sometimes. I get the "If you're a lesbian, then why do you only have boy dolls?" question time after time. It mostly comes from my family.

I just can't see myself owning a girl. Although I'd love a really cute MSD to put in lolita with waffle curls, I just can't see it. I'd probably never play with her, because I'm more used to interacting on a friendly level with guys. I don't know how "normal" girls are supposed to act, I suppose.

Not really. My grandmother does, though. She thinks girls should play with girl dolls

When. Probably as soon as I got into this hobby. It just never really struck me to want a girl. Although there are a few I love from afar and do want now, it wouldn't be the same as the boys I love.

uh girls probably. i think for me it came down to the fact that most dolls look like girls, or could be girls. my girl in fact has a DOT camine head.

uh just searching for a couple of years, similiar to other DOA members. i kind of always found myself admiring a company's girl dolls before the boy dolls.

Since the beginning, my wishlist is full of male dolls. But recently really into YoSD and 10cm size girls...(It's because they only have girls of that size...Puki, Ai, etc.)

 

I'm almost the opposite, I've barely found any girls that I like but boys on the other hand, oh man! xD

I prefer boys in a way, but I do want to get my hands on a SD girl! > 3<

 

I prefer female dolls, i just like the form better, plus I can dress them up in ways I'd like to dress, but never would.

I seem to prefer boys. As much as I love many girls, I seem to ADORE boys. The reason? Most likely because of the fact that I'm a girl who relates to guys and acts more like a guy than my own boyfriend XP

No, people just assume it's the Yaoi fan girl in me still trying to scream out as much as I've grown away from it.

I would tell them that I just simply like the way that these girly boys look. it's called CUTE not gay.

Sometimes with my choice in dolls ^^ Everyone thinks that Aden and Gabriel are both girls at first.

I prefer girls. Guy dolls always look off to me. There are some boy dolls i've been okay with, until I saw the dollie bits. It just bothers me. And their fashions are harder to deal with... I'm so used to designing girl clothes.

People outside of the hobby probably think I'm bi-sexual or a lesbian, which doesn't bother me, considering the other things they will think of owning "creepy" dolls..

I've always preferred girls, even as a kid, I didn't really figure it out, I just knew.

Boys, definately. I've always made male characters, and actually tend to have problems identifying/getting along with females. So I guess it only follows that all of my dolls would be boys.

They do! luckily they're usually nice about it. "So, why are all of your dolls boys?" Or my mom, the most interesting "So why do all your boy dolls look like girls?" ^.^ as much as it doesn't sound like it, she likes my boys and thinks they're pretty.

I just tell them I like boys. ^.^ occasionally and explanation that they're representations of my characters leapfrogs over this question though ^.^

mom does, but mom had girl dollies when she was little. Everyone else (read: my friends) just chalks it up to me being a pervert. They stopped questioning why my Tabletop RPG characters were all boys a long time ago.

It was no question, I prefer boys in almost everything I do: Rpgs, fave TV characters, friends... *shrugs* I've actually been called a Male chauvinist (sp?) before. Funny to me at least, as I'm female.

I haven't gotten my first doll yet, but I would most definitely have to say that I prefer male dolls over female ones. Don't get me wrong, I love the girls, a lot of them are extremely pretty and people do great things with them. I just don't think that they are worth the money like boys are. When I think of girl characters...in anything. Because obviously the doll wouldn't just be a doll. It would have a personality through it's owner. And when I think of girl characters all that's screaming at me is just annoying. I know it's very stereotypical but I just can't help it. I RP a whole lot and my characters are always men, I do not have a single girl character. Even though I could change the whole very stereotypical dumb girl falls down on ground and doesn't get back up thing, I just believe that you have so much more to work with with male characters. Not to mention it's has simple as this, when I look at the girls I like them but it's like whatever, when I see the boy dolls they call to me. And that's what I'm looking for.

I don't have a doll so people don't really know that I'm all that interested in them to begin with. And the friends that all know that I like these dolls all prefer boy dolls over girls doll to begin with so we are all in the same boat.

Exactly what I just told you in the first question...only a lot shorter because I don't to seem like I'm rambling...like I am now. I simply like the girl dolls, but the boy dolls call to me. They want me to take them home. And that is what I'm looking for in these dolls. Because they simply aren't just dolls that I would keep on a shelf, I look at them as something that is meant to be given a personality.

Absolutey not...because like I said. All my other friends that know that I like them are interested in them too and they like the boys just as much as I do. They to, like me like boys over girls. So it's all natural to us.

The minute I started getting into them. It wasn't that long ago...but I have yet to find a girl that really catches my eye. And until then I prefer boys over girls.

When I saw the Dream of Doll company website. I thought the Limited Ducan was much appealing than the girls they offered. Then I suspected, if this one is so pretty, than there must be more!

After seeing some of my friends female dolls I realized I didn't really care for them as much, and preferred the males.

Adult males because after too many Barbies and one genderless Ken, the idea of having gendered male dolls who could pose better than any Barbie could was very appealing. Only recently have I succumbed to boy child dolls and the two I have will be the only ones who will be non-adults.

I don't recall anyone asking me. Maybe they just know better, since my fandom is Gravitation, which is filled with pretty boys, and I like other male-heavy anime/manga like Saiyuki, Kyou Kaou Maou, Junjou Romantica and other bl/yaoi-flavoured series.

3) What would you tell someone who asked you about your preference?

I'd want the girl dolls to have large squishy boobs I could corset up correctly into period clothing. Since girl dolls don't do that, I'm not interested in them.

Nah. I draw and write about pretty men and rarely draw women anymore. It's not odd at all.

5) When & How did you discover that you prefered this gender over the other?

I knew it the first time I saw my first bjd at an anime con. The girl was a Loli-goth, which was pretty uninteresting to me at the time. Girl dolls are just not that interesting overall. The boy dolls have interesting faces, chests, abs, stomachs and penis sculpts. Now that I have a new and unplanned boy, he's going to be my crossdresser and have frilly things to wear.
