Too much too fast?

Aug 19, 2009

    1. just changed my mind from Mo to PeaksWoods Beetle.
and im getting him very soon rather than waiting for Christmas, now, i've finally reached my limit..

but theres a chance I might go over my limit though.. o.o

    2. I'm wondering about the same thing. :sweat I'm considering starting out with two MSD-sized dolls but am wondering if they may be too much too quick. I wonder if I should buy one and alot of clothes, or just buy the two dolls and two sets of clothes to begin with. *_* I think logically it would be easier to buy the two dolls and get the clothes later, as it's easier to save up the cost of clothes sets than it is dolls, but I know I could spoil one girl more first.

    3. Do you think that's too much too fast?
When I finish the planning and decision making, the result show is it hurries to conduct.
How long was it till you got your first BJD?

My first bjd is DOC-TOO, about 5 years ago. I have saved about 2-3months money to buy it. And I was waited about one month of the delay of the delivery.
How has it been since you got your first?

Great!!!! Because I had been wait about one month.
What do you do to stop the urges?

I was finished the planning procedure such as how much I can afford, how long I will get it, how to but it. Afterward, the decision was come out. XP

    4. too much too fast? well, if you can pay for it, what difference does it make if you wait or not?
personally i still have to order my first BJD and i already start to plan a 'family' for him ._. and i find so many dolls i would love to own. but i have to wait because i cannot afford all of them now.

    5. As long as you actually like the doll (or think you do) and have thought it over, I don't think it really matters how fast you order your dolls. Sometimes people just get caught up in 'ooo, pretty' and end up regretting it later.
I got Nayo within a few months of finding out about them (with little prior research), but a close friend had gotten hers and taught me how to care for them.
I got Nayo in...07. October 07. Including my 'waiting' dolls, I currently have 11 C:
If there's a doll I really want the urges don't stop, they're just put aside for a while.

I'd consider myself a little obsessed as well XD; My doll count outnumbers all of my irl friends' (four other people) dolls put together.

    6. Do you think that's too much too fast?

Like pretty much everyone has already pointed out, it depends on you. Is it too much for you at one time? For me, it would be. I have to sit on a doll for a couple of months until I can go ahead and gather up the money to buy one.

How long was it till you got your first BJD?

I researched for about a year before I dove into getting one for myself. I had to really make sure this was what I wanted to get myself into. When I did finally get one, I decided to go for one of the less costly bjds, just in case it turned out I wasn't at all impressed. But I still made sure to get a mold that would work for my character. I've never regretted getting her or any of my dolls. :)

How has it been since you got your first?

It's been wonderful, other than the fact my wallet is no longer as chunky as it used to be. But with everything comes sacrifice. I wouldn't trade my dolls for anything in the world...unless I just really needed the money and couldn't gather it any other way.

What do you do to stop the urges?

Pretty much run out of money, lolz. :sweat Or I try to stop myself from looking at company websites. Like now, I need to save up to get a new laptop next summer, which means no dolls for me until probably next Christmas, if even then! Subbing is not the best job in the world to have in this hobby, lolz. But maybe next year I'll finally get that teaching job. ;)

    7. Phew, I'm not the only one then! lol! I do agree that it depends on your personality and your finances. I ordered my first two dolls in December 2008. I now own 10 BJDs. :o

I have two I would like to sell because they ended up not being quite what I wanted, and I did buy them on the spur of the moment here in the marketplace. And I currently have a DoD Homme Ducan head to sell.

    8. I see it as getting the doll purchases out of the way so you can slowly build up their wardrobes and such. Now, if you continually get that many at a consistent pace to the detriment of your finances then yeah, it's not the best thing to be doing. Heck, if I could get my entire wishlist out of the way in one shot without breaking the bank, I'd totally do it - five is my limit, four for SD and one for MSD, so I'd be done buying dolls for a while at the least.

    9. :D I'm glad to hear everyone's input. I'm so very happy that I'm not the only one who goes crazy over new shinies.

And just recently a friend of mine showed me the AiNai BOTO sale o.o
      More resisting.....x.X

    10. Do you think that's too much too fast?

Actually, it varies from person-to-person. I cannot really say that your case was too much too fast.

In my experience, my second doll came just 1 month after my first doll. Then my third doll a month later--all within the same year.

For some people, it can be "too much too fast." I felt the same way in the beginning--but I felt rather satisfied that I have my first 3 dolls home.

How long was it till you got your first BJD?

I think it took me 5-6 months after I discovered Den of Angels.

How has it been since you got your first?

I have 10 dolls right now. So far, I'm happy with what I have. In the first year, I seem to get a new doll every one/two months but a year later, it all leveled off.

It's actually been a year since I got my newest doll.

What do you do to stop the urges?

I pursue my other hobbies or I don't visit the Marketplace section or just avoid company news about a new doll. I also avoid the News Event Chat threads so that I won't get swept up with the excitement of other members.

Sometimes, though, it is difficult to resist~

    11. Do you think that's too much too fast?
This is so tricky… many people (me included) started like “I only want one”… “or maybe two”… but than in a moment there were more and more temptations hard to resist and one end up with a crowd; at least on the wish list. :doh

How long was it till you got your first BJD?
Years… for many reasons: collecting information, collecting money, waiting for the ‘best’ one.

How has it been since you got your first?
      Cool

What do you do to stop the urges?

I like to take my time and don’t rush too much. I wait for a few weeks before placing an order. Usually, I realize that I do not need everything I originally seemed to need.
There could sure be exceptions with some limited offers.

    12. I dont think its too much too fast as long as you can pay for bills and food and rent and stuff. I'm actually in the same posititon as yourself, I've only recently got into the BJD sence and I have two dolls at home now (DZ Wing and mini BBLeo) I ordered my first BJD back in april and she should be arriving late December early janurary, I have one coming in the post, and I have 2 other BJDS on layaway with the possability of one more lol :)
How long was it till you got your first BJD? Well I'd been looking at them for roughly 4 month before i actually bought one and i knew which one i wanted to, and just by luck my dream doll came up on ebay so i bought him. So not long at all lol
How has it been since you got your first? Like i said above I've got quite a few on layaway so i still on have the two at home so its pretty cool but Seths getting loney and the others to get here quicker lol
What do you do to stop the urges? I look at my finances and if i dont have a lot in my doll account then i dont buy anything until money goes into it. I think it also helps that i love to make alot of my dolls clothes so i only buy pieces that i really like or something i cant make. Saying that i worked out the other day i had spent just under £500 (around $830) in the last 3 months lol Thinking of it like that makes my think I need to slow down lol

    13. Hm, I'll answer your three last questions first;

How long was it till you got your first BJD? Back when I discovered BJD, they where only available through Volks (maybe other smaller companies as well, but I didn't know them) and could only be purchased with help from shopping services. To top that, I fell in love with the sold out, limited Shiro Tachibana. It was only a matter of weeks though before a friend directed me to a Shiro on the Japanese auction site and I won him. The however it took quite some time before I received him though. Two-three months I think.

How has it been since you got your first?
The first four years where quite easy and calm. I bought one doll a year. Mostly because I the first two years didn't make that much money and the next I moved out so I couldn't just spend everything on my self. This year however has been a huge boom. I think I'm on my eight doll bought this year @_@

What do you do to stop the urges? Look at my bank account! XD No, I don't really have urges to buy dolls that often. This years massive purchase of dolls is mainly because I fell in love with Luts Zuzu's and I ended up getting one of each. Only two dolls this year was sort of spontaneous.

      And then your first question;
Do you think that's too much too fast? No. If you don't feel it's too much too fast, if you don't feel overwhelmed by the lot and if you don't end up on the streets buying all those, then it's not too much too fast. You buy as many dolls as fast as you want. If you want them all at once who's to stop you?
My only concern is the customs (don't know if you get them in the us and how high they tend to be on dolls). If they're as crazy as here then I hope you've been thinking about that.

Other than that, congrats on all your dolls ^^

    14. I think i have the same "problem", maybe i've bought my dolls too fast, but i love them a lot >.< although, i use to buy the dolls in the moment because i usually buy them secondhand >.< so it's difficult to find again a nice offer and waiting a little gives the oportunity to other people to buy it :(

Luckily i have a regular income of money, and every three months i have a little extra (excluding the two extra pays in winter and summer...) as incentive for my hard work xDDD and i use that money in buying my dolls or accessories...

I think that the idea of "fast" depends on the person and how long is their wishlist xD And also their money, of course. Having a job, with regular income, etc, makes you have more opportunities of buying dolls. My parents NEVER would thought of buying me a doll, or giving me money for them or whatever, they told me "if you want a doll, you have to work", so now that's what i'm doing ^^

    15. dang.

I said in my previous post that I wanted a peakswoods Beetle, well, when I went to DollHearts (Im in Hong Kong now btw) to get one, It was out of stock, and instead, they had a Dream of Doll Si :O

So in the end, I got a Si..

    16. I'm kind of in the same position now. I currently have one doll who came home this August, and I planned to just have him for a while, pamper him and take lots of photos before getting a second one. Since all of my dream dolls can be got as standard editions I wasn't in a hurry. But in the span of a weekend two of them appeared for sale, and both were deals too good to miss. Now I have a SD head coming to me from the split, but I'm still considering the other doll.

I like to take my time with hobbies, so having one head on the way and potentially a second full doll coming -- and my first doll less than a month old! -- is WAY too fast for me. *eek* But I keep thinking I should seize the opportunity since it's already in my hands, and they are very very good opportunities that I don't think I'll ever see again. I'm freaking out a little though, because I never wanted to get so many dolls so quickly. (Yes, 3 dolls is a lot at this stage )

      Decisions, decisions...

    17. Do you think that's too much too fast?
Like most other people said, it's really a situational thing. I agree with most when they say as long as you're being responsible with your spending t
How long was it till you got your first BJD?
How has it been since you got your first?
What do you do to stop the urges?

    18. I think...for me, I would say that yes, its too much too fast. But then, as everyone else has said before my it varies from person to person!
For myself, I bought my first doll last april and he arrived in late June, got my second doll that September but he was for my Christmas present, then paid for 3/4 of my third doll for my birthday in January. And also ordered a head in December.
So Like you...I went a little doll happy in my first purchases. And I have no regrets, so I think things will work out well for you as well!
But, my reason for saying too much to fast, well I would have waited until you received your first doll to go ordering a second. I almost feel like it takes having a doll in your possession before you really decide on committing to the hobby? But that's just how things worked for me really. I only planned on having one for drawing. Now I have three and three floating heads. And plans for more!
Of course, being a student with no income...well, I know what that's like....but I can also honestly say being able to buy my dolls myself made me feel a lot better then asking my parents for one as a gift. Mostly because buying them mysefl, well I'm investing in my hobby. Asking my parents? well, they have a hard time rationalizing some of my hobbies.

    19. I just ordered my first doll last week and I'm already saving up for my second. My mom thinks I'm moving too fast, and I can see where she is coming from. I don't even have my first doll and I want another one already. I've been dreaming about dolls!! Anyway.
Do you think that's too much too fast?
I think if you feel you are responsible enough, you aren't moving too fast.
I'm the type of person who will want something, two days later I don't care about it
anymore, but dolls for me are different. I feel like they aren't going to be a phase.

How long was it till you got your first BJD?
I started liking them in the 7th grade. Never was really serious until 8th. Then in 9th
      I actually ordered one ^.^

How has it been since you got your first?
I ordered her last week O_O

What do you do to stop the urges?
Have my mom yell at me XD

    20. I think I buy dolls and their accessories as a reaction to stress too. I bought my first doll in July of 2009. She arrived in September and by December I was ordering my second doll. My third doll order was placed in January 2010, the fourth and fifth in February, floating heads not included. So that answers the third question.

Do you think that's too much too fast?
Well, let me tell you that I somehow feel less guilty about my dolly spending when I read about people who bought more dolls than myself in a short amount of time. XD There's a reason why some of us feel guilty about it.

How long was it till you got your first BJD?

Long, long time. When I first saw a BJD in 2004 or 2005 I could not wrap my head around spending that much money "on a doll". But I was already spending the equivalent of that on other things. Now, I choose not to spend money on "other things" and just focus on dolls.

What do you do to stop the urges?
I just think about how GUILTY I feel after a doll purchase. >_< Well, I didn't feel guilty about my first 4 dolls. I started feeling guilty when I purchased an Iplehouse Tedros (my most expensive BJD -_-) and all the floating heads that I accummulated looking for the right one for my character.

I really admire people who are able to limit themselves to 1 doll per year. I wish I had that kind of self-control.
