    1. Oh my god Yeah! when a doll looks a bit cheeky or mischievous i am in!

    2. Elf ears is 100% what got me in to this hobby in the first place. who doesnt want a little fairy creature in their house?!

      • x 1
    3. Thick thighs are a definite need.

      • x 3
    4. I know its not technically sculpting but i love it when dolls are in non natural colours. like a lilac or a blue. it speaks to my sissy little pastel heart!

    5. I definitely have a sculpting weakness for brooding/stoic men, but I mainly look for more fashion doll looking sculpts. Stuff that me as a kid would have DIED to have part of my barbie toy collection :)

My sis and i have talked about this before of how in the 2010s when Barbie introduced their new doll lines that we would have wanted all of them when we were kids. It got so boring having like 12 blonde barbies and only one ken doll when you could have had so many other unique characters.

Things I don't like though are those "ugly cute" kind of molds. I feel like it's like the Cabbage Patch kids effect. I don't find those dolls cute in any way, but some people do.

    6. I have a "type", I suppose: big rounded nose, animal ears, showing teeth (fangs especially). I'm a huge sucker for all of those features, bonus points for big eyes.

    7. Boys: taut stomachs, girls: open mouth with slight teeth showing and hip bones!

      • x 3
    8. I love partially closed eyes, or sleeping faces. They are just so gorgeous, it gets me every time!

I also prefer softer, rounded faces, and eyes a bit on the larger side.

    9. Yes, definitely! I have noticed that I love noses. Especially big ones. That's probably the first thing I look at in a doll. Jawlines are also important, I think they shape the whole face of the doll.

I also tend to love bodies that are something different than the most usual ones (muscular etc).

    10. I am very drawn to fantasy’s sculpts, unusual faces, and most of all dolls with horns is my biggest weakness! :love:D

    11. Slightly open mouth with teeth.:kitty2

      • x 1
    12. I have a soft spot for slightly open mouths too, especially when the sculpt also features partially closed/dreamy eyes!
Bonus point if the corners of the lips curl up a little or if the sculpt has a smirking expression depending on the angle.

As for bodies, I love lanky, androgynous bodies that have a fragile, delicate feel to them.

    13. I prefer very distinctly Asian looking sculpts (wider/rounder noses, narrower eyes/eyelids and canthal tilt, etc.). I also love big lips, open mouths and half closed eyes.

    14. Soft smiles. A soft smile will draw me in every time.

      • x 2
    15. Fuller lips and thick thighs especially on male dolls as far as I like.

I am still somewhat new to the bjd community, but I'd love to see all of what others like on a doll myself like an example maybe I'd love it too ^ ^

    16. I really like a well sculpted hand. If it isn't well sculpted I have a hand time liking the doll, but it doesn't really have to fit my preference. If there is something about the doll I am drawn to and I might want to have the doll in my collection I might buy it.

I prefer gloomy handsome looking faces, but it really depends on my mood. I like details like veins as well, but it doesn't have to be highly detailed or fit my exact preferences. That makes it really hard to not purchase a doll because i am fine if the doll doesn't fit exactly what I want. If there is something that caught my eye and I am drawn to it such as maybe a really beautiful face up I might buy the doll.

      Agreed.

Unique facial expressions are really hard to resist!

I like Asian face sculpts as well, but there are so many varieties of facial features of Asians faces, so it's hard to resist all the face sculpts. I end up buying a lot of floating heads.

      For male dolls:

I think for me I have a soft spot for slanted eyes that are sharp and foxy looking. The eyes look like daggers. I prefer when the eyes goes upwards like a feline rather than the corners going downwards like a puppy dog. I prefer smaller eyes over larger eyes. I don't mind if the eyes have double eyelids, but sometimes it looks weird on the doll's eyes. I prefer if the eyes were monolidded, but it isn't too big of a deal for me. If the eyes are shaped nicely I will want the sculpt.

There is a type of lip sculpting I don't like, but I don't know how to describe it. Actually it isn't the lip sculpting that is the problem, but the distance between the lips and nose. If it is a certain way I don't like how the face sculpt looks.

For the nose I prefer a medium to thin nose with a medium nose bridge, but again it doesn't have to be my exact preference. The nose and lip distance though have to just not be how I don't like it.

I like cheekbones on a male doll, but soft male faces are fine too. The sculpt has to be aesthetically pleasing for me to buy it.

I like a nice jawline, but I don't want the jawline too v line.

      For female dolls:
I like sharp eyes that are feline like, but medium to somewhat large eyes are fine. I am trying to find a monolidded female head. I found the perfect one from Little Monica named Ryuhwa. I am really sad I got the deadline mixed up and missed the last sale. I hope I can find her on instagram. I wish I got some Little Monica dolls before they went defunct. Does a defunct company ever come back?

For a female nose, I think button nose is nice, but I am not sure. I really mainly pay attention to the male facial sculpting more. I prefer the stylized peakswoods female dolls maybe because i don't know what I really want in a female doll's face. I prefer Peakswoods Miro face maybe. I would have liked for her to look a little more mature, but it's okay. Peakswoods dolls are so fantastical looking they don't really look like they have a specific age.

I don't know what else i look for in a female doll. I seem to just get the female dolls based on my male dolls.

How do I change the size of the text? I can't recall.

    18. I tend to go for:
      • Teen/adult cuteness rather than childlike. So if a sculpt could pass for a young adult from a fantasy universe then I go for it.
      • Long but not necessarily realistic face. When I say long, I mean "mid-face" [distance from bottom eyelashes to lip corner] shouldn't be too "squished". In my last purchase I was hesitating between Doll Leaves Lan and Betty => Lan won because of that longer midface.
      • Rather angular than round general face structure.
I noticed that almost all Doll Zone, Doll Chateau and Dream Valley sculpts are beautiful to me, even though they do not meet all of the above criteria. So there must be "a secret factor" that I am not aware of!

@Brytewolf Same with lithe bodies, smirk and nose [looks like we love same sculpts, Vine and Gray are wonderful!]. Skinny bodies with pronounced hipbones and small bust/narrow shoulders are also aesthetically pleasing to me.

    19. @silmaryel YASSSSSS Vine and Gray are absolutely lovely!!! I was gonna say that they're the only two currently on my wishlist, but I have a Gray head on order so that just leaves poor Vine lol. Pronounced hipbones (but just enough not "I haven't eaten a good meal in months" kinda pronounced) and narrow shoulders are where it's at! I adore some of the Doll Chateau sculpts, they have that thing too...but oddly for them, I don't think I'd ever own any if that makes any sense. There's something just a bit too off about them where it's stretched just a smidge too far. I think it's the extra joints that throws it off for me.

If you have any suggestions for other Vine/Gray-like sculpts please let me know. I need more pretty boys to sigh over lol.

    20. Hope you can get Gray soon! I waited for mine shorter than expected (5 months + 3 weeks of shipping and I expected 12 or so)

If Gray and Vine had an older moody brother it would be Doll Chateau Dennis! He’s a discontinued sculpt and made it to my wishlist very quickly. I love him in every possible iteration. And of course DZ Snow, such a handsome sweetie.

Oh I love extra joints on DC! They are just on the edge between artsy and creepy and the longer I think the more I believe I am seeking also artistic value and expressive range within a doll. The more emotions blank sculpt/body can convey, the better (of course face up and styling affect that to a great degree). Thats’s why I love browsing owners’ photos. If a doll looks enticing even in clothes/make-up I’d never personally choose, it’s a good sign.
