Unidoll - Unilimited resale

Sep 5, 2009

    1. My boy just arrived and I'm really disappointed. His faceup is not at all like the original. This is all browns with orange lips and the original had lavenders and blues around the eyes and the lips were purpley pink. There is no blushing on the cheeks. I don't think they used the same faceup artist. There is also a flake in the sealer by his upper lip. They didn't use a face mask and in the HUGE 70cm box the big boys come in his face was turned side ways. I'm surprised he doesn't have more problems than the flake and a crushed eyelash.

    2. Oh no! That is too bad. Is it just the colors and lack of blush that is the problem or the overall look of it is not so good either? I can't believe he did'nt get more damage without a face cover. I am going to ask DDE to ship mine in a smaller box if possible to save on shipping if they have one available. That is really cheap of Unidoll though, to ship these dolls in the wrong size boxes. They made other SD's that are this size...I don't get it.

Please post pictures of him Funnylori, I know I would love to see him.

    3. DDE is just shipping them in the boxes Unidoll sent them with. I'm pretty sure the outside shippers are from Unidoll as well, mine had a taped out EMS sticker on it.

He is entirely lacking blush. The faceup is chipped, his eyelashes are smashed. And yes, the colors are freaking ugly.

I couldn't even pull him all the way out of the box for this picture. I'm not going to take any more... He's already packed back up into the box until I can figure out what I'm going to do with him. I'm in the middle of moving, so likely not much will happen for a while.

    4. @luckyl: The unireal SDs are really larger then their Unilimited SDs. That's probably why the boxes are bigger too.

@FunnyLory: That is really horrible what happend to your boy. So far I know Unidoll don't send their dolls with face covers. My Ark didn't come with one either, but on the other hand he was a tight fit in the box and no movement was possible. Try contact DDE about the face-up damage. I know DDE is very helpful to find a solution to it. (I knew someone who got a faceplate with a damage faceup got a replacement from DDE)

@bunnydots: I hope you get some news about shipment soon. I never got an email from Unidoll. I was a bit surprised when she was shipped when I checked my order.

@Grace: I can understand your disappointment. Unidoll resin is lacking pink, which makes it next to other bjds very yellow. The French resin is even more yellow, but I find French resin got that something special touch which makes it so rich and alive. (Can't express it better)

Oh my...a lot of doom today.

    5. Funnylori: Thanks for posting a picture of your boy. Despite the plain Jane face-up, he is very handsome, and the sculpt is really nice. I wonder if DDE checked him and he was fine before he got to you or if they just send the doll without checking it out, which kind of bothers me a bit. They certainly saw he was not packaged properly if they inspected him before shipping him to you, and should have done the right thing and at the very least put a face cover on him to protect the face-up. Again, sorry this is not what you wanted, but maybe they will offer you a discount and you can get the more custom face-up that you want.

Good to know these dolls have a more yellow cast than some others. That does influence what color choices will be the most flattering.

    6. Lori, I am as disappointed as you are. After spending that much on them, they should be in much better quality. I am wondering if they rushed through our orders and that is why they are substandard. I don't think DDE had a chance to look them over at all. Mine didn't have an EMS sticker on it. Just the large box that was addressed to me from DDE. I, too, wondered if maybe someone had taken him out and just not put him back in right.

Mine also didn't have a face cover. He just came in the foam padding like yours did and his face was sideways as well. No other cover, padding, etc. I'm going to check over the face up on mine now. I was too disappointed to look closely at him before. Still, it is ugly, in my opinion. It is all orangey which on the yellowish resin looks bad to me. Certainly not at all what the promo pictures looked like. Mine has orangey blush, but with the yellowish tone, it just looks like he is orangey/sickly yellow all over his face.

I've been stung before on promo pictures looking very different from the actual article, but I am also disappointed in the fact that he is so floppy. His stringing looks tight, but he won't stand nor will he sit. His middle keeps popping up. After reading all the wonderful reviews of the Unidolls, I had at least thought he could sit. I'm not sure what to do with mine either, but I am certainly not happy about spending over $600 for the doll I got.

    7. OMG, it gets worse. There are huge dents and sanded areas over his chest, stomach, and rear where something went wrong and someone tried to cover it up by sanding them out. There are at least 4 big dents on his rear. I've also found marks in his faceup on his chin that are not coming off with magic eraser. I'm so disappointed. I'm contacting Denver Doll to try and work something out. This doll should not have left Unidoll.

    8. Okay, he must be growing on me. If I could just get him to at least sit! I took some quick photos of my guy and I must be getting used to the color. I changed out his eyes which make a huge difference. They sent him with blue which looks barfy against the orangey complexion.

Here is a picture of what I thought he was going to look like vs. what he looks like:

and here is what he really looks like:

    9. Lori that is horrible. I don't think mine is that bad. I did look at his faceup and I don't see any chips. Just spots where they missed the paint.

I hope DDE can do something about getting him replaced for you. I seriously think it was a bad thing to be the first to get them. I would rather Unidoll have waited and taken more time with the quality.

    10. Gracie, I actually really like the face-up your guy has. Although different than the promo photo, at least the lips look similar and so do the eyes and eyeshadow. I REALLY like your boy-he has that mezmerizing quality that makes these dolls special. I think the sculpt is beautiful and hope my boy is as nice as far as the sculpt. I am going to be SOL if he comes unable to stand or sit, I would'nt have a clue what to do about that. Anyway, hopefully your doll can at least stand. What do you think of the boy body? Is that the wig he came with?

FunnyLori: Your doll sounds like a bad mess. I would want to return him for a refund. That is horrid that he had dents and can't even stand. Good luck with DDE, please let us all know the outcome.

I knew this was a little risky ordering when there were only outdated photos and limited info, but I was optimistic it would turn out ok. Now, I am not so sure. It seems like the reissue of the unilimiteds was an afterthought just to make some quick money and they don't give a damn about the quality because they are'nt going to make this line anymore. How stupid of them to burn good customers who may have bought other dolls from them. I don't know about rushing through orders...it has been over the expected time frame for all of us except Baakay. I ordered a limited doll from Pipos with a 4 week turnaround and the quality of everything about the doll is top notch, from body posing and stability, to perfect face-up. If the commitment to quality control is there, I don't think 6-8 weeks should be rushing to put out a good product for a company with decent quality control. I hope you both express your dissatisfaction to DDE and unidoll. They really need to get their act together.

    11. My boy stands, he's just horribly sanded (and in places that shouldn't have been sanded) and very dented. The faceup is ugly and is marked up badly. I'm really upset. I wanted this guy to replace my old french resin UH-17 that was badly damaged in a face plant. This guy is in such poor condition he shouldn't have left Korea and my damaged boy is in better condition. :(

    12. FunnyLori: I don't think I have ever heard of a new doll coming in this bad of condition. I am really disappointed in DDE also for letting him arrive to you like that. I can't believe all that damage happenned from Denver to Oregon. I would complain my head off to anyone at DDE and Unidoll that will listen until you get a proper resolution.

    13. Yes, Luckyl, that was the wig they included. Not quite what was in the picture, but at least they tried.

My guy is starting to grow on me, but when I compare him to my other BJDs, the quality just isn't there. I am very surprised considering all the good reviews I had read about Unidoll. I can't say I care for the new body. There just isn't a lot of definition like I see with other BJDs that are same price or even less. I absolutely detest that joint in the stomach area and we won't even go into the color. My DH has a Sooah and she is more of a yellowish resin, but this color is really more orangey. The new body doesn't pose well either. At least mine doesn't. He can't really sit or stand. Lori said there is a locking joint on his bum which enables him to sit, but the legs on mine don't quite match up in the area so the locking mechanism doesn't really work. I think Souldoll has a much better locking mechanism.

I can't really complain to DDE because mine didn't arrive damaged and I really don't think they looked them over before sending them out. Maybe they didn't want to disturb the boxes. I do think I am going to contact Unidoll and tell them how disappointed I am in their doll. I have two Bobobies so I know what it is like to have poor poseability, but at least they can sit. I don't think they will care, but what you said about alienating future customers is true. I know I will never purchase from them again. I do hope they replace Lori's doll though. Who knows? Everyone else's doll might arrive perfect.

    14. Gracie, The irony of the resin color is it seems to photograph quite well and I don't read the orangey color at all, he looks more yellow and even a light, glowing tan. So far the dolls with face-ups have had the most defects, but some of the others have reported loose stringing and the bodies being a bit floppy. Maybe the others have'nt tried to have their dolls sit yet either.

Like you, I was sold on getting a Unidoll by good customer reviews and raves from people that had these dolls when they were released in french resin. I would like to know how the previous body compared as far as posebility since some of you have one. My impression from what people were saying was the body and head was a nice package, but I guess some of this is subjective based on what your limits of posing acceptability are. I did'nt fully realize what body came with the limited until after I ordered since they made it kind of a mystery on their web site and did not show any nude photos with these heads. I guess that should have been a red flag right there. The body is attractive from the photos I have seen, but that does'nt mean much if the posing sucks.

Is it common that vendors do not inspect a doll shipment? Paula wrote to me that the dolls were really nice that came in when I emailed her to ask if mine was one of them, so I got the impression she did check them out when they arrived looking back...Of course, I doubt she took them out of the box and tried posing them. Is it only the new boy body that is different than the french resin version and not the girl's?

I am anxious to see what Vinge's experience is when she receives her 2 dolls today. Hope she posts her report and some photos...

    15. My Unidoll is home. They coming with gift +2 wig (for her and for him).
He is really little strung, he stand and sit, but "sway". Face-up is not perfect, face looks each otherwise.
Resin is for me good (but I not specialist).
She stand perfect, strung OK. Colours for face-up is not well-taken.
      But I love both.:aheartbea

      I am sorry my English:sweat

    16. Vinge, congrats! Good to hear there are no problems with your order!

Please take some photos! *Begs* Would love to see them!

    17. I mus photo home, outside is dark. My camera is old. Light on pictures is not perfect.:sweat

    19. Vinge! Thank you for the photos! I can see why you are pleased! I think both your dolls look really nice. I like the face-ups, eyes, and wigs on both dolls. But, I tend to like natural face-ups. I must say the scuplts look even better in owner pics than on the Unidoll website IMO.

So, do you have characters planned for them?

    20. Just feeling the need to put in a good word for UniDoll.

You have to keep in mind, these are not NEW bodies. These are the OLD ones. The design behind them is years old.
It sounds like Unidoll ships the dolls loosely strung. You'll have to tighten them for the doll to hold poses well. I had to take mine apart and restring, taking the knots down the string a good inch and a half to two inches. He still stood and sat, before the tightening, but it was tricky. He's like a rock now. :)

Also, the pictures Unidoll used were the original pictures from years ago, so no way would I expect them to still have the same faceup artist, and even so, the artist would have likely developed a different style by now, so I didn't even bother getting the faceup. I have a friend that I hope will be able to do him up like their promotional pix.

Personally, I'm just thrilled to have gotten the chance to get my boy, since I failed to get him back when. French resin or urethane, I don't care as long as the face shape is the same. :)
He may need some hot glue sueding in the shoulders and waist joint, but that's certainly something I can do, and have found necessary even with my far more expensive Heliots and Euclase.

My boy also has signs of some serious sanding on his neck and chest, but it doesn't glare at me like it did on my tan Spirit Doll, so doesn't bother me as much. But that would be my only real gripe.

Oh, and they really need to learn to make a good looking fur wig. :|
:XD: The one for my Jace was just about as silly looking as this one.
