Using real foods for doll props

Nov 29, 2009

    1. This is such a useful thread ^^ Dried blueberries could work for MSD or tiny size prunes or dried figs. I wouldn't have the doll holding them, though, in case they stain. A Cheerio might work for a tiny size bagel, and the frosted kind could be donuts.

    2. Cool.. they reminded me of honey stars

    3. I rather using real food than fake props, I find many of these last ones too artificial, when taking photos. Scale is not a matter to me. It can be their own, smaller or bigger (Even real scale) because the crew may find food of any size. The only thing to avoid is them touching greasy stuff. About some examples of food on their own scale I may think about, some small real breads really fit, some chocolates make great chocolate tablets and the small bottles of some drinks match as their size bottles as well.

    4. I actually have a bag of those pastas right now and have used them in soups before ^^ they would make excellent pasta or addition to soups for dolly size. (think chicken and stars) I just thought of this but chopped chives can be like chopped green onions :D I also saw the bakery in a grocery store here have mini croissants and such in stores and thought they would be a good size for the larger dolls.

    5. I thought of this too when I started looking for props for Hero, but you suggested some I had not thought of, thanks so much!

    6. More suggestions ^^
Vienna sausages would make great hot dogs for MSD dollies. Cocktail wieners for the tinies.
I've also recently acquired a "donut" pan of mini donuts that are perfect size for 60-70 sized SDs. Can use that pan to bagels as well :D Although there are mini bagels on the market too. I see alot of mini-sized pan for various pastries/baked goods these days that are perfect for the job.
To make real noddles more doll scaled, get the noodles that are straight in the package and either cut them in half or quarters, that way, it'll be easier to put in smaller bowls without so much mess.

    7. Oooh I love all the ideas here.

    8. I havnt read through everything yet but encase no one has mentioned it yet but crayfish would make a great doll lobster

    9. Champagne grapes would be a great size for SDs and MSDs, and they are DELICIOUS to eat yourself afterwards! I find them a lot at Whole Foods and "upper scale" Stop & Shops. They are just teeny tiny red grapes, so sweet and adorable.

I want some now >_> LOL

    10. ooh awesome suggestions :D and speaking of crayfish, I find that shrimp comes in various sizes and can be great for various doll sizes as well :D

    11. I must admit I'll never use real food though, firstly because I'm afraid of residue and bugs coming to the doll (even if it isn't greasy, I'm just paranoid. :X), and secondly because I'm a miniature food sculptor, and I do want to keep feeding my doll and my customers' dolls! hahaha.

But there are some brilliant ideas in here for real food props! especially love the star-shaped noodle one, I'm thinking honey stars! :D

    12. Hansel and Quinn's wedding cake was real! Ivory Stardust cut the bottom layer from an 8" cake and the top layer is a cupcake!

Also, I've been known to pour real coffee into a tiny mug for Amir. And booze samples make great SD liquor bottles!

    13. That’s really a great thought! the real foods make good picture.

    14. I had just today found or well.. gotten a sample size of a Starbucks' cups that are great size for the larger 70cm dolls. I've also found some Starbucks "ornaments" that are good for the 60cm ones, too :3 Good to fill up with real coffee or whatnots XD Though not food exactly, but they are great sized cups for those who are starbucks' fans :D

    15. Mincemeat pies would probably look like proper-sized pies for MSDs.
