Variation of Boy Bodies....

Apr 1, 2007

1. I like the thinner dolls... just without the ribcages protruding o.O
Iplehouse's dolls seem like a completely different style of doll to me XD

2. I personally like the skinny, girly, slightly curvy waif boys...but....I wouldn't mind seeing a guy with a bit more meat on his bones. A doll version of Brandon lee would make my day....body and all, then I could reanact the Crow, bjd style!

3. I don't like muscular bodies... like LOVE the DoT bodies best... I don't really like how every body nowadays is getting at least a four pack. You have to work hard to keep up muscles like that, and most guys do not.

The akando sculpt honestly is kinda frightening to me -_-

Slim soft boys and girls are the Asian aesthetic... if things start getting too GI Joe, it's not really ABJD anymore...

4. Ever seen a shonen manga? (DBZ, fist of the north star, kinnikuman, etc...) The asian esthetic is all about the face, styling, and overall feel. There are PLENTY of muscular characters in almost every asian made anime or video game.(rpg) Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it doesn't fit the aesthetic.

Seriously, what's wrong with having a little variety in sculpts? For females we have everything from flat chested 6 year old, to wasp-wasted marvel comic-esque women with huger knockers. Why can't the male sculpts have the same variety? It's not like anyone is saying "every male doll should look like a green beret" we just want the option.

5. Are you sure Akando Pierrot isn't Brandon Lee? That's the first thing I thought of when I saw him. Heck they even put him in Crow-like makeup. And I don't think anyone can doubt he has the body to pull it off.

6. not really. i like the fact they are thin and dont have muscles x3 i like little men xDD

7. The DIM Torudolls have surprisingly buff physiques all over. My Torudoll Karon, Mathonwy, makes my Super Gem Lupin, Lir, look a little scrawny, when Math's supposed to be the bookish one!

More people probably don't know about them because at last count, we have a grand total of TWO on the boards, if the Database is any indicator.

8. Hehe, I think skinny guys are pretty and all, but I loooooove muscular men, which is why the EIDs are my favorite... but I've seen some skinny muscular molds I like, too! I'm always a fan of big, broader men... perhaps we'll see more in the future with the somewhat-popularity of the EIDs? :'D

9. The more realistic sculpts - the better for me as I am a huge fan of dollie realism. We have enough childlike boy sculpts though this kind of aesthetics never appealed to me. I prefer mature (in Western sense of appearance) men and women *only*.
So I'm happy there are EIDs, Supergems, Unidolls, Souldoll Chiron etc. I'm waiting for EID Model type as well.
The only issue here - it is rather tricky to have a "beefy" sculpt with good poseability.

10. I've never been into muscular men XD;...a little ab-action and toning is okay, but some molds are way too masculine for my liking. Not that I have any problem with seeing ABJD's with this kind of variety. I think it's awesome that there's a lot of shapes and sizes around now! Something for everyone, right? ^_^ But personally, I love slim/skinny and curvy boys the most. <3

11. >_> I think buff bodies are ew *shot down* I dont like them...but its how I feel. I love the thin, slightly muscular bodies. Thats why I got myself an Angel Of Dream Body >_> ♥

12. Did you get the NS skin tone? I'd love to hear what the actual tone is, peachy or pink. That's a very interesting body!

13. I don't like boy bodies that have uber-detailed chest and abs, sculpted to every rib and muscle, or anything like that, partly because that's just not very realistic (real bodies are typically softer-looking because of the fat/skin cushioning the gaps and things) , and partly because the rest of the body usually isn't as detailed enough to match. That and, yeah, I don't think super-muscle boys are too attractive XD .

But I don't know that I would want a super-lanky boy either... I think for me, it's more on how the boy body is in relation to the matching girl body. I want them to have enough differences that one can easily tell 'this is the boy, masculine, and this is the girl, feminine'. So, slightly wider shoulders and chest, sharper, muscled angles and planes, and just in general a touch more volume and definition in the arms and legs. Oh, and of course slightly larger hands and feet. But not to any *extremes*.

14. Skinny, muscular and anywhere in between, I don't care as long as the sculpting is beautiful, in proportion and either as stylised/detailed throughout the anatomy. Surely the BJD world needs variation in its male sculpts as much as its female ones.

At the moment my perfect boy body would include the Dollstown 15 boy torso, the Classic Dollshe hands and and the Limhwa 67 boy feet...and be as posable as a LTF. :D

15. Yes of course there are many muscular characters in anime but they are probably heavily influenced by the american standards like marvel comics and whatnot...

I base the asian aesthetic off of what's popular in the real world, not in anime, and taking a look at their rock and pop bands, singers, movie stars, etc, it seems the more androgynous, the better. Asians in general are simply more feminine than other races, so of course it's part of the aesthetic.

I'm merely making a judgement based on my experience, as everyone does. I would like to participate in a discussion without being accused.

And there is nothing wrong with having the option, just as there is nothing wrong with OT dolls with an american aesthetic, I am simply saying what I consider to even be the asian aesthetic.

16. Look, I'm not attacking you at all, and where did I "accuse" you of anything? All I did was reply to what you said. I have just as much right to my opinion as you have to yours right? It wasn't my intention to offend you or anything, I was just trying to discuss the matter. (Feel free not to read this post if you like.)

I always considered the 'asian aesthetic' to be "dolls with features prized in asia, or similar to asian art" not "dolls that look asian." There are VERY few dolls that look distinctly asian. Also, if the male characters are influenced by the west, the females definately are as well. I've never seen a Japanese girl with a Dcup, so that should be off topic as well right? ;)

True, pop bands are more feminine, but there are plenty of asian men that don't look girly at all. (Yakuza, martial artists, anyone with a physically demanding job) I also don't think muscular=marvel comics or mr. universe there are no bjds anywhere near that. I also don't think that asians dislike masculinity. I think asian teenagers might, just as western teenagers don't like masculinity all that much either. When I was 13 I liked very feminine singers and actors and hated muscles and facial hair. I realized later that this was because I liked people that looked my own age.

17. I have a doll on the tank of a body we know as a senior delf... But my other boy who's going on Supia's tiny model-thin girl body with the chest modded. Toshiya's a ladies man with abs to please and Bi eats nothing but jam and looks like he eats nothing but jam. I think they're both little hotties just in different ways.

But I have to agree Akandos are a little too much for me. I'm not at all into the bodybuilder shape and it looks unrealistic in my opinion. It's a great option for those who are into it and kudos to Iplehouse for sculpting one hell of a man. XD

18. skinny nerd dolls=awesomeness

Some of the more buff muscular sculpts are not my thing, but pretty guys like the ones in between skinny and buff are great.

19. Randomly jumping in real quick! :sweat I agree with both of your points, and don't mean to get involved. But, I know Japanese girls with D cups, and I've seen men in the Yakuza/Dragons biker gangs from Yokohama that are extremely girly and slim. No doubt there are definitely plently of asian men that are typically "male", but I would say after working in Asia off and on for several years, especially in the entertainment field, androgynous and soft bodied/featured men are often prized as the reflection of asian aesthetic beauty. When I did cosmetic photography, there were plently of gorgeous masculine men, but it was the really naturally feminine men that the studio and directors really sought after. Which the man I worked for at the time even referred to as the image of their nationality, lol. :) I guess he really liked the girly boys, too!

20. Personally, muscles as in bulging sacks of 'em in body builders will never appeal to me. The leaner, assassin/spy, sphinx/feline-like physique is more my cup of tea. Sleek and powerful does it - otherwise I'd rather have just plain old professor/librarian type lanky. I have no reasons or theories behind this, I just like them because I do. The only rules are the aesthetic ones.
