Very first stains/cracks/dents/marks?

Jun 5, 2009

    1. Well, before anyone corrected me when i was a noob and though Mr.Clean Magic Eraser was also for getting Face-Ups off... I was trying to get a smug on Sade's face-up taken care of, and it worked a little too well so theres an ultra clean looking spot above his eyebrow |D its not noticable though, his hair covers it

    2. I was taking pictures of my boy in town.
It was very windy, but I had to get the pictures that day, because they were a part of my school project.
The wind caused my boy to fall, which gave him a nice mark on his nose.

Luckily, I knew exactly what to do, thanks to this forum, so I stayed perfectly calm all the way home.
I just boiled his nose for a while and he was almost as good as new. Now he has a small mark on his nose, but It fits his character perfectly. ^^

    3. :) lol maybe I should post my own experiences too :sweat

I've had a few unfortunate accidents over the time I've owned my dolls.

Riuske fell face first off the kitchen table and blunted his nose. (luckily it rounded when it fell so there was no sanding needed. Also his wig stained his head pretty bad :sweat this was before I knew about wig staining. But that should be gone now because he's getting a new face up.

My boy Milo's finger snapped off :o I was upset for a few hours but then I glues it back on and placed a ring over the crack and now you can't even tell.

My biggest boy Folken has some scrapes on his feet from being outside without shoes. :doh It's really nothing big but I still could have prevented it.

My newest boy Azriel got a small chip on his wrist when I was cleaning him (the S hook got caught and took a snall chip out) I fixed that with a little sanding.

I guess one thing you really have to keep in mind when getting into this hobby is there will be accidents. That just one of those things you have to deal with.

The first time one of my boys was damaged It really bugged me, I considered putting them away in the box and not looking at them anymore, but over time I realized it wasn't so bad and sometimes it even adds character to them. There's no point in getting so upset over a small amount of damage.

    4. Eek, just got my first mark. I heard a "THWACK" in my room, and headdesked immediately. Sure enough, small yet prominent scuff on his cheek. I used nail polish remover to get rid of it, which got rid of the stain... and a bit of the suttle face up. Ah well, part of his story I suppose.

    5. Yep. I got mine yesterday. +_+;; My little sister thought it would be funny to photograph Azami without her head, just the body. She made Azami stand up, and giggled while she took photos with her mobile phone. I kept on telling her that she can't stand up properly without her head, I haven't gone to get her restrung. She kept replying to me that Azami's already standing up so what's the harm? I gave up with her, and went to look for my mum. I then heard a THWACK, and my little sister's yell. I ran back into the room, and seen that Azami fell off the chair and onto the ground. D: And my sister looking rather guilty. She has a small chip on her finger and also a small scratch. Other then that she's ok. D: I'm NEVER EVER going to trust my sister with Azami AGAIN.

    6. The only bad thing that has happened to Kori was when his wig stained his headcap and forehead. Though that was easily repaired with a little magic eraser and the toe of a stocking to prevent future incidents like that...

So yea, I've been lucky. *raps on wood*

    7. Fin got left in my south-facing window in my 80*F room in the middle of summer once for an entire weekend. I went out for the weekend with friends and, in my rush to leave, completely forgot that he was sitting on the window sill. Next time I took off his wig I noticed that his headcap was warped and it no longer fit properly. Still stays on with a little eye putty stuck in the grooves that don't line up properly anymore, and it thankfully doesn't show because it's under his hair.

    8. I remember made a few scratches on my bianka's face and appearently she has a chip on her left hand

    9. Hmm I'm always knocking my dolls about but they've never really suffered too badly until recently.
I think the most heartbreaking one was my SD13 Elena Hitomi. I took her to a meet at a convention. We were all sat on the floor in the corner of the hall and I allowed a very young girl to hold her for a few moments. I turned my back for a few seconds and when I turned around again I found the girl scraping poor Hitomi across the ground
She had dirty black scratches all up her legs. Luckily a friend of mine who does gunpla kits helped me restore her.
It really hurt though because I trusted this girl and Hitomi is by far my favourite doll. I mean she is my dream doll in reality. I would be devastated if anything really bad happened to her.

Also, only last Saturday the ball in my Dollmore boys hand snapped in half. I actually reacted really badly to that. I feel like the worst doll owner in the world :( . I'm going to order him a new set of hands from Dollmore (but in a different style) so I can replace the ball.

    10. Does that mean your dollfie has a circulatory system? cause her foot turning purple is just weird...and scary ( sorry I have a bio final tomorrow so I got some weird issues on logic*_*.)

    11. Hmm...I think the first one was a black spot stain on the inner joint of Kizimir's leg (DM Uri Rich)...I wasn't the happiest about that, I know that much, but I did manage to clean it off by sanding just a little. I don't really care that much anymore as long as I can fix it. xD

    12. I have bought several dolls with stains already that weren't mine :D

All my self induced stains were minor up until the point I tried to remove a faceup on Nuri and stained her face. After much work I had a professional artist finish the job.

She does have joint damage now which really isn't my fault...she's needed quite a bit of repair due to just the way she was made...joints that don't mesh well and slide around.

I have broken Pukis though...which have been disastrous...and I broke a finger off my So Ji when I still had her. Even today she is still without a pinky (and she's moved on beyond me without said finger).

Sometimes I've been mortified...and others I've not minded...it depends on how old the doll is and how attached I am to it.

    13. Just today I was wearing cheap red nail polish. ... I didn't think it would come off on them. D: I was borrowing my sister's doll too, so I cleaned hers first to the best of my ability (one mark is by his eyes, so I couldn't fully clean it without removing his make up). She was okay about it, thankfully. My boys still have their marks, I may try to clean some of them later (one is across Zane's eye brow, so that won't get cleaned). I felt really stupid about it, though.

    14. Uh oh. I'm currently a newbie and have a black wig on my little Soom's Violet (although I've called her Su-yeon). Until now I've kind of went "pffffft" at the wig stain warning but I think I'll take it more seriously.

I've only had my first two dolls for about a month (but a few more on the way, woo hoo). But Pipos' Dali (I named her Toki) came first, and I was so freaking excited I opened up the box in the car (we had to go pick up the package because I wasn't home when it came to my house). I saw that the eyes weren't set in but were floating around in the cavity of her head. In my excitement I roughly yanked her head off, not knowing exactly how well it was stuck on, and accidentally flung her face onto the black dashboard! Of course, since we were in transit, her face then clanked around for a second and then fell into the drink holders. Luckily her long ears didn't snap in half and she came out with a light gray dot on the very non-visible underside of her cheek. I haven't even bothered to get it off it's so minor.

But boy did I turn cold when I saw, in that short moment, I almost RUINED MY VERY FIRST DOLL! 300 DOLLAR DOLL NO LESS!

    15. :doh my E-anne got a stain on her bum from sitting on a dusty table! grrrrrr ive only had her for 2 days!

    16. the first damage any of my dolls got was on Corpse's ear mods. When I first did them (look at my av pick to see why they are an issue) I did not reinforce them with steel, and I had him standing for a photo the day before the first ever Brisbane meetup...and he falls over backwards!
BOTH ears snapped off clean about halfway down. One went so far missing it took me an hour of searching to find it. I was beside myself, freaked out, and convinced I could never fix him before the next day. I eventually found both ears, and with some superglue he was all handsome again. About 50 ear snaps later I gave up, completely ground them off with a dremel, and set to work making them stronger (we have the technology!) I added steel reinforcing that was drilled into his head then shaped to acommodate the ear, then carefully sculpted it on, making it thicker than last time,a nd altering the arch so they did not curve so far back, so his head would hit before the ears (this was the big problem the first time) They have not broken since.

    17. The way my doll got his first, and only, mark was kind of freaky:
He was sitting on top of an old wardrobe, out of the way until he was more customised, when my friend went upstairs to have a look at him.
She is really short so had to stretch up for him and grab his legs to pull him down. She managed to grab his foot but he fell, it looked like he jumped, and as he is a big boy (SD sized) rather than catch him she let him fall to the wooden floor of my bedroom (scream!!!). He was lying there all wretched and with his limbs splayed and when I scooped him up and inspected him he had a purplish mark on his head that looked just like a bruise!!!! It's still there but it's totally hidden by his wig (which is blonde so the mark is not a stain from the dye). :o

    18. I was trying to pose my doll one morning... when I had Aeryn standing I quickly went to grab the camera behind me... Aeryn fell down, and now she has a small blue mark on the top head. She hit her head on something, but I forgot what it was. It's not visible when she has her wig on, but I was so stressed out!

    19. My doll got a little stain from a corset I bought her.. Most of it came off.. But I believe some of it is still sticking to her for dear life. D:

      Then.. When I took her out for the first time.. Like ACTUALLY took her out. To the park, to take some pics with my friend.. She feel on her face.. Now her noise has a few marks on them.. But I don't think it's that noticeable.. Unless you're actually LOOKING at her.. XD;;;

    20. My first Dollfie, Tige, got a mark on the tip of his nose right after I got him. No wiping or rubbing would get rid so I realised it was here to stay!

It was sad but it didn't affect my love for him, same goes when his eyelashes all fell out and I found another mark on his forehead!

I like to think of them as scars like we collect and think they add character, especially if there's a story behind it. :nowords:
