Very first stains/cracks/dents/marks?

Jun 5, 2009

    1. Danior's head cap fell off yesterday because the magnet came loose. ><; Lucky for us, there wasn't a scratch or crack to it. Phew. First the stain on his resin, now this. What next? D:

    2. Well, it happened with my cherish doll. My bedroom was being renovated and I was trying to move my stuff out for the time being. His box fell and he fell out and mushed his liltte nose! :crushed

I'm afraid to sand his face though, so until I gain the courage the tip of his nose will stay that way. D: Thanksfully it isn't really noticeable unless your closely inspecting his face.

    3. I have actually been pretty lucky with my boys. Dollzone Resin is like steel ;) My poor Elgin has been dropped and has "jumped" off of things, but he has yet to damage himself other than a smudge. However, I'm terrified with my MNF's because they both have magnetic hands that like to pop off and launch themselves across the floor. I'm almost just waiting for fingers to go flying across the room. So far so good though. ;)

    4. DC - DOT Camine - has taken a nose dive off my computer desk, gone through airport checkpoints and been stained by his jeans. Yoda - ZDF Papi - has been dropped from 6ft, both ears bounced off but turned out okay. Today Daiquiri - Soom Sard - showed me his crack forming on his knee D: Not happy about that one.

    5. when a guest came to my house and accidentally knock my dod tender too from my bed, his hand chipped off ...

    6. Well it seems ever since I got Yuki (Loongsoul YingYing) back from Trinity (DelicateReflections), there's this horrible chip on her nose which you notice if you look at her side on. It's really upsetting me, and I know it probably can't be fixed so I'll have to deal with it.

I don't think Trinity is responsible, I think it probably was always like that and I never noticed beforehand :<

    7. I remember the very first heart stopping instance it was when my crobidoll laen Illian got this itty bitty smudge. I nearly had a panic attack so technically I really didn't handle the situation. It wasn't till the next day that I realized that I had over reacted, I've learned to be a lot more chill and understanding.

    8. Within the first day of having Sammy, I had him in his white undershirt and a black button up over top...the black shirt stained his shoulders a slight bit. I panicked at first, but now with some help I've gotten rid of it all really.
Now he has a tiny chip around the bottom part of his thigh piece, but it's not noticeable at all really, especially when you bend his leg, cause it's wear the joint moves. I wasn't pleased, but I've just told myself it's not a big deal, he'll live. If something major happened I'd probably freak out though. haha. So I'm just really careful for him.
(The same can't exactly be said about my poor ABS dolls and small Obitsu dolls...I take care of them, and love them, but they weren't exactly wallet-breakers, so if something happens to them I'd be less panicky and more willing to try different techniques to fix them without as much worry to something going wrong.)

    9. I've accidentally chipped a faceup and body blushing before, nothing super serious though. No matter what you do it's practically impossible to perfectly preserve blushing, so I just continue being careful and I know that it's just the consequences of handling my dolls :)

    10. The first time my Brin was stained was after she'd been wearing a pair of jeans. It looked bad at first, but I took a magic eraser to it and it all came off. A while later she toppled off the shelf she was sitting on and there's slight damage to her faceup. Now I see a larger piece starting to flake off, and I'm thinking of how to fix it. I think I may try a tiny bit of white glue under the flake, but I'm nervous to try it.

    11. I want to take my doll to California and Las Vegas, but perhaps I should just leave it.

    12. Knock on wood, I've been lucky enough to avoid any major dents, chips, scratches, breaks, and even stains (though I've willingly altered some and had others come pre-damaged). I did, however, have some minor staining on one of my dolls. I had some temporary paint on his partner's leg, as part of a mod I was doing, that was unsealed, and after I'd had them posed together for a while, I noticed some paint had come off onto the first doll's body blushing. I was definitely a little concerned I would have to redo his blushing, but luckily it wiped off easily without damaging the work underneath! (I've also gotten some sap and dirt on feet, from barefoot outdoor shoots, but that likewise came off with a bit of magic eraser.)

    13. Two days after getting my AE Aure Olivia in, a chunk chipped off her arm because the elastic in her arms was too thick. I ended up super gluing and adding a layer of Milliput to the inside. I also put thinner elastic in and so far the repair has held up.

    14. My Morgana (Dollzone Aurora) has had the most face-ups of all my dolls. While spraying her with MSC for her third face-up, I just ... dropped her head. It fell from my raised hand onto a brick floor, bounced a few times and rolled away :...(. I think my heart skipped a few beats and I was in a complete panic. I was sure her face would be all smashed and her nose must have come off. But whereas I don't recommend dropping dolls, when I picked her up she had nothing worse than a scuff mark on her jaw and an ever so slightly crushed bit of ear. I did a teensy bit of sanding, gave her a face-up, and all traces of the horrible accident have disappeared. But, um, when Dollzone discontinued her head I bought an extra one just to be on the safe side :sweat...

    15. First bump was pretty bad. My minifee dopped to the floor after unfortunate chain reaction, and in most unfortunate place: behind the computer desk. I have had few minor bumps here and there, but this time the little hook in his neck piece gave in and he went to pieces. O.o; I'm not sure how it ended up like that, I guess it had bend slowly by time and the bump finished the damage. So I hart to restring him and get a new neck piece . He also lost 2 fingers, so bought him new hands too, they didn't stay when I tried to glue them. :/ Miraculously, there was no more injuries - even his face up was ok! O.O; But it really scared crap out of me.

Besides up that there has really been just one other accident in my 3 years in the hobby. I had that every-doll-owning-mothers worst nightmare. I got two little kids and they were playing in our living room. there was an accident and my then 4-year-old boy ran around the bookshelf, accidentally hit my doll's legs, and my SD-guy fell on his head! My poor boy luckily only had a little bump and he was mostly just startled, thank god, compared to little boy doll weighs kinda lot. I had a mini heart attack when I saw my doll's fingers - they seemed to be full of cracks, but after looking it more carefully, it was just in the sealant, so resin was fine. His face-up got damaged and he got small scratch to his forehead (from that, I actually have a picture) but it is basically invisible after sealant and doesn't show behind his eyebrow anymore. Haven't felt too bad about that, I'm just happy my kid survived without anything worse, and now my dolls are in safer place. ^^

    16. My very first doll actually never suffered any damage at all... staining or anything. I was ridiculously careful and the worst that happened was one of her eyelashes was pushed down farther than the other due to her long side bangs.

However, my second... I hated his webbed toes and decided he'd be my first toe separation. The knife slipped and took a little chunk out of his toe. It looks like a dent. I shrugged, finished the toes and never fixed it.

My newest doll was bought secondhand and had pretty bad staining under her face up. It had been airbrushed over with white paint then faceup was over that. I freaked for a moment, tried magic eraser... nothing. Had to sand her face all over.... HER FACE! Once it was all off, I calmed down... and sandpaper in hand, I now had the courage to shorten her nose ;) I mean I'd already sanded a bjd face now, so it didn't seem like a big deal anymore to sand her nose.

I had another incident with the same doll when I was restringing... it'd been eons since I'd strung a doll (been away from the hobby for a while). I put the neck S hook upside down (the little hook on bottom instead of the big hook) and it slipped into the neck hole, leaving the sharp big hook to grab onto the neck. It dented in... I punched myself in the face for being a doofus. Then I realized it didn't matter because once the head was on, you couldn't see it... duh.

I have two toddlers now that I'm back in the hobby, and I keep thinking the first BIG damage issue will be daughter-related. Nothing has happened so far though. One of my kids has taken a nap snuggling my doll and the other asks to hold my doll all the time and is very careful each time. My oldest even has her own name for my doll (I named her Wren, my daughter calls her Milly).

    17. Got a head from a seller and in the pictures she was pristine. Opened her up and she looked fine until I picked her up. Then I noticed a smallish scuff on her nose and a decent sized scuff on her chin. I left neutral feedback because either she was shipped poorly and got damaged that way OR the seller lied and was selling her because of these scuffs. The seller also said she wasn't yellowed at all and it's obvious on her face to her head plate she's yellowed (super easy to tell on WS dolls in my opinion.) I don't know what to do yet. I think a Mr. Clean magic eraser is the first step right?

    18. That first blemish is horrible! But then it happens and you deal with it and realize that it is just one of the things that can just happen with dolls... Unless you leave them in the box locked away in a safe somewhere (although that probably won't keep the doll from aging and yellowing).0505

I had my Delf Juri '05 standing up in grass to take some pictures. She took a faceplant and I thought it would be fine because it was just grass--but the grass was sharp enough to scratch her faceup!!!! AAAGH! I felt like a bad doll-owner. I mean--it's always safer to use a doll stand, no matter what!

There was only one little scratch and I thought I would fix it, but I barely even see it. It doesn't bother me any more.

and I try not to take as many risks with me dolls, although I still do sometimes try and have them stand on their own for a photo... Just not anywhere where a faceplant can damage them, even if it's just grass.

    19. It's been almost a month since I've had my doll and, so far, there aren't any major marks or stains on her. Although, I've just noticed that there's some weird scratch marks on her foot, though it isn't that noticeable, as well as a small blue dot on her leg. I don't really know where she got them from though, as I think I've taken the necessary precautions so that she won't end up with a large stain or mark.

It doesn't change my perception about my doll that much, I still like her. After all, I know that in the end, it's probably inevitable that she'd end up having some mark on her either way, no matter if I'm really careful or not, though it doesn't hurt to be as careful as I can be anyway. xD

    20. I was trying to change Ardese's clothes one time and he suddenly flipped forward, face-planting himself right into my dresser. He's got a chip off of his face-up right on the darkest part of his blushing! :...( I tried to cover it up by making the blushing a bit lighter and it's not as bad but still very noticeable, especially to me. But he's my first doll and has had a lot of imperfections already, it's just another one to add to the list. I'm probably going to redo his face up eventually anyway since I wasn't 100% pleased with it in the first place. I still love him very much at least, lol.
