Very first stains/cracks/dents/marks?

Jun 5, 2009

    1. I am always beating myself up about my soulkid Maa.ba and her face. A few days after I got her, she face planted and chipped the sealant on the very tip of her nose. After she fell I freaked out! I felt like I just broke her nose off. I don't mind it that much anymore. you can't see it in photos or even super clearly in person. Even with her blemish I still love Catherine, she is still as sassy as ever.

    2. My second doll got very first stains from his new gloves which I bought for him. I had washed them extra before wearing on his hands but still...the dark color stained on his hands very quickly and so difficult to be erased, although I tried to use Mr. Thinner. :(

    3. First one I couldn't fix was on my favorite doll!! I died. But she's a hunter so it fit her in the end.

    4. Right at day 1. :doh

My first doll came in unstrung and I didn't have the recommended tools for restringing so I made do with what I had. I ended up grazing his foot in the process :/ Thankfully, it wasn't anything serious and could easily be hidden with shoes. Still, I was pretty bummed about it that time unu

    5. Only a few weeks after I got my first doll he faceplanted and 3 fingers broke off (read: scatterd through the living room) My heart sank and felt really stupid. Breaking something worth so much money.... Fingers were glued back on and he's still with me after all those years :)

    6. Oh god this brings back bad memories...so it was on Day 1 when I got my dolly, and I was so hyper and happy and excited I literally ran all over the house, bounced up and down, did a happy dance, whatever, you name it. And it just so happens that my arm, while it flung in wild ecstasy, brushed against my doll who was left standing and she fell to the floor. There was a dent in her forehead and her left ear got chipped off. I froze, refusing to believe what just happened.

I ended up packing her away in her box. It took me two and a half years to cope with the damage and finally bring her out. Another downside is that she was Tanned skin, so I couldn't do any work on her to remedy the damage left on her face.
Her ear has been glued back on and she now wears a huge tattoo to cover her dent, and ironically that tattoo gave her a very unique flavor to her character. She has the highest developed personality out of my entire resin crew now.

    7. The first time it happened I just ignored it and all other times as well, but now I have an old doll that needs quite a bit of sanding ^^''
A suggestion, try to sand off all small marks as soon as possible because resin yellows with time and you will need to sand a lot more to still have an even resin color.

    8. My Elisa 's eyelashes fell off days after she arrived and the faceup was chipped where the lashes were glued on. my mom is an artist so she just took a sharpie and colored over the chipped area inside the eye to make it the same as the rest. it actually worked really well.

    9. That's actually an incredibly bad solution! I hate to tell you, but you've likely just made the damage much, much worse.

    10. So how did you deal with this for the first time?
I was very disappointed in myself. But, it didn't look too bad, just have to keep her clothes on. Then my second doll I stained I took it really hard. She was a complete mess and I couldn't get it off at all. I ended up re-homing that one for free.

Does it change your view on the doll?
Yes, it becomes a permanent sign of my failure, and hard to deal with. I still love them, but always have a twinge of guilt.

    11. My first stains were wig stains. I took off my girls' wigs the same day and found that both of their heads were stained. This wasn't such a big deal, though it did surprise me when I saw it. It is covered by the wig anyway, but I have now put some medical tape inside one wig and put a silicone wig cap on my other girl's head. As for other stains...I am fortunate enough to not have any other stains. I check periodically for them. I am actually surprised since two of my dolls wear dark clothes.
Then I have my most recent boy, who arrived with his finger broken off on his human set of hands. I was a little sad at first, but I glued it back in place. I then proceeded to make up a reason for why his finger had broken off and added the little scenario to the character's back story. :)
Last, my SD girl's eyelashes are falling off, but I am thinking about wiping her face and sending her off for a new face-up. She has a company face-up and I love it, but I would rather have new securely glued lashes.

I wouldn't say these things change my view on the dolls. This kid of stuff happens. As long as it is nothing too obvious or such then it is fine.

    12. It's so sad to get chips / scratches on your doll. The paranoia remains and you keep staring at it even if it's just a little chip hahahaha. I hope my Withdoll Rosa won't get any of those soon.

    13. I freaked out at first, but then I realized the scrape was tiny and in an area covered by clothes. Stuff like that happens and it's best to not dwell over it. I feel like you wouldn't like your doll less because of it.

    14. Perfect timing for this as I've only had my bjd for about 3 weeks and he got his first scratch the other day. I had a newbie freak out and since it happened right before bed I had nightmares about his resin. He got a scratch/dent on his thumb because he was trying to remove my glasses and his thumb hit the sharp edge of my lens. I was so irritated. The scratch is small and since he's a dark grey resin it's white. That same night I also found a white mark (scratch?) on his throat which also bothered me. It was showing in pictures from the other week so for all I know its been there since I got him but I had him in bright light looking at his thumb and saw it (his room has dim light so this stuff goes unnoticed). I still love him and I hope with time these things bother me less.

I like my things pristine but realize bjd's are handmade so there will always be flaws but I don't want to add to them.

    15. I actually didn't freak out the with my first breakage. My second doll arrived to me with three broken fingers so I was able to superglue them fixed. I originally planned on getting some jointed hands for him anyways but it's been about a year and I have yet to order them.

My first doll has four black stains on the back of his legs. He always wears black pants so even if I can't get the stains off, no one will ever see it.

When my first doll broke his pinky a few months ago from a fall, that's when I freaked out. I was really upset about that but after gluing it back on, I was fine.

    16. I may panic more for an almost fall than an actual damage XD
The first dent was as soon as I got my first doll when I tried restringing without the proper tools for it.
The most recent one was a head slipping from my hands and hitting on her nose. I had sandpaper near so I quickly sanded it, there was just a small lighter part that was covered with blushing later.

    17. i think an hour after receiving my first doll a doll-love lincy i was playing with her in my room making her pose when suddenly her hand came off
i panicked so much because i thought i had broke her, a doll my parents had bought me i was so scared, instead of doing the smart thing and
contacting the company i reattached her hand with a ribbon( a black ribbon to make matters worse) and she has been like that for five years, poor girl XD

    18. I still 'eeeeek' every time I see a little smudge of something on my dolls, and rub it frantically until it goes away :sweat My poor Supia was quite tightly strung, so trying to get her head off I accidentally scraped a little resin off the side of the neck hole :| I noticed one day, that she had yellowed considerably, but evenly, though not in the joints, so these are still super pink like she used to be. She's a real pink-bottomed girl now
Plus other stupid little mishaps, but well... dolls that are handled are bound to get a little bit beaten I think. I haven't had anything really bad happen, which hopefully I can avoid too, but tbh, I can still be wary of handling my dolls for fear of fecking up completely and not being able to fix it.

    19. I also accidently damaged my very first doll when I had to string him with the wrong tools.......... it was sad, I wanted to cry, but now I don't even see his flaw anymore.

Right now my first boy also has wig stains on his headcap............

    20. My first stain was on my dear Chiyori as she was wearing dark coloured clothes, of course i freaked out at first but found out that i can easily use magic sponge to clean it away and ever since then i love to just bring my dolls out for a through clean every 2 to 3 months.

My first scratch/dent would on my sd boy(he has no name yet but old name is Leon), he fell from my work desk and got his nose slightly chipped so i sent him for a re-faceup and a sanding of the nose and to be honest i love the new sanded nose better as it looks more natural than compared to his original one. Am still thinking of a name for him as his character will be a student model so he will have his real name and an artist name.
