Very first stains/cracks/dents/marks?

Jun 5, 2009

    1. My first big one occurred when I took one of my dolls out on an outing. I hadn't planned to stand him or I would have brought boots that were larger and more stable. But he took a tumble head-first onto some stone stairs and the tip of his nose chipped off. I was pretty devastated.

    2. My first and only bjd got her first mark by an attack by of friend's kitty cat on her right arm. It's not really noticeable luckily :eusa_pray

    3. I know that marks are bound to happen and I've had some older dolls where I expected to see the wear and tear, but I was definitely disappointed when I dropped my Lusion Dahlia head and chipped her lipstick. It doesn't really show up in photographs, but I know it is there and it makes me sad. She was done by a favorite face-up artist and I don't know that they are still doing work, so I know I'll be sad when I finally decide to have her re-done, even though I know there are other talented artists out there, from nostalgia I suppose.

As for coping, I think I just swear a bit, see if I can fix it, and move on. Nothing's perfect in life, and every mark and knick is a part of their story.

    4. My grail doll, Alexis, has a little pencil-mark looking blemish on his nose from a particularly bad fall right after I got him back from the faceup artist. I was taking pictures of him on a windowsill, and he fell and bonked his nose against the (black) sill! I freaked out, cried half the night, managed to get most of the staining and dent out with a magic eraser, but I didn't have any MSC to reseal his faceup and was petrified that his whole faceup would come right off! (I had never had a doll with an artist faceup before, and did I mention this was my grail doll?) Luckily his faceup artist was local to me and was able to meet me in a park to give him a quick spray. But he still has a little tiny mark -- I think it gives him character.

That wasn't the FIRST time any of my dolls have stained (that dubious honor goes to Fai, whose black tights stained him from toe to waist before I washed the living daylights out of them to get all the excess dye out) but it was definitely the scariest...

    5. I dont know exactly what happened.. But somehow behind a glass door one of my dolls got a bunch of black scratches on his arm.. I'm not really sure what to do about it yet.. For now I've put him in a long sleeved shirt

    6. I stained my doll with acetone...and its the worst thing ive ever do...its so unispired to have red faded stains on your dolls head but its hardly ever shown. So yeah. Hope it will sell soon.

    7. The first stain marks or damage is always scary. I've accidentally marked my Ringdoll with pen and his black clothes have stained him, but it's all easy to remove with magic eraser :)
      I've also accidentally stained my dolls with newspaper ink while removing body blushing and the resin has been slightly damp >_>;;
It's all part of the doll hobby I think ^_^

    8. My first crack was in a floating piece that's part of the wrist. It was a small crack, but It really did take a blow to my confidence. I put super glue over the crack to strengthen it a bit (the super glue isn't really noticeable, so that's good!) and my doll is already stained, which is weird, because it spends most of it's time in a box while I wait for it's head to ship. It's a bit disconcerting just how fragile resin is, especially for me a first time owner, but I've come to accept that my first doll is gonna get wrecked while I learn more about how to handle dolls and the hobby.

I still love the doll, and I feel like the dents and scratches in the future will be nostalgic, and remind me of when I first started out.

    9. Lorelei has two small problems. She has staining that I am gradually removing from her thigh area from her red panties. I didnt know to wash her clothes before putting them on her. The second is...a chip in her ear. Lorelei is a resinsoul mei(so she has elf ears) and she took a tumble and chipped her ear. Luckily I was able to sand it down a bit.

    10. My Ringdoll Qinzhe comes with an elaborate Chinese opera headdress with all sorts of delicate metal parts attached. Not quite 100% securely, as I found out when one piece broke clean off. I kind of freaked out since he's my first doll and I've longed to own him for years, but I superglued the piece back on and now store the headdress more carefully. I can feel that some of the other little metal bits on it are kind of loose, so I anticipate using that tube of superglue some more in the future. x___x

    11. My first was when my second doll fell and chipped his nose. I held him and cried for a long time and felt like such a bad doll owner. Shortly after, my first doll fall ON CARPET and gouged his eyebrow. Still not sure how that happened, since there wasn't anything rough there! That was less traumatic and I just worked it into his character. Now, I know how to sand out minor damage, so I don't really worry about it unless it's severe like broken fingers. That's pretty upsetting and will require a new set of hands.

    12. I had a doll fall over and hit the edge of a stained glass lampshade. Her face right down on it. I was terrified to look! Thank goodness nothing was chipped or broken. She had a mark right on her nose. Sanding with a magic eraser got darn near all of it off. Now I would have to look for it. I was SO glad it was not worse.

    13. My boy dove off a swing into the grass... and still has some dirt and grass stains on his forehead, because I'm afraid if I try to remove them I'll remove part of his faceup. But it reminds me of the adventures we've had together, so I really don't mind (though I certainly did panic when it happened). I kind of feel like the flaws they pick up with me make them more mine. :)

    14. Somehow my Arwen has a fingernail nick under one of her eyes that I guess happened when I was cleaning her, it was a rather intense cleaning job. The day I got her body, I promptly dropped her off my lap and broke off two of her fingers! I was horrified but it was an easy fix. Plus I plan on buying new hands for her anyway so it's not too terrible...The blushing on one of her nipples also chipped off and I'm honestly not going to bother to fix it. Maybe if I completely redo her body blushing in a different color, I may but not for quite a while.

    15. When Hitomi arrived after her first face-up I was attempting to get her head attached to her neck peg and sort of scratched the left side of her brand new face-up. Sigh. Once I got her head secured I resent her to the artist peg and all! Thankfully I haven't had any further issues. Additionally one of Hitomi's LeekeWorld wigs began to stain her head but it really isn't noticeable. Thankfully the parts for her are pretty inexpensive so if it really bothers me I can get her another cap. Things really could be a lot worse so I am pretty lucky.

    16. No marks on my dolls
      I'm lucky

    17. Ylva has some blackish stains on her head because I was too cheap and impatient to get her some kind of wig cap before plopping a dark gray wig on her. She looks like she has a touch of leprosy. :atremblin

I think it will come off with a magic eraser when I redo her faceup. Lesson learned.

    18. I found some recently. Little black scuff marks on the soles of her feet, I think from the leather finishing on the couch. Soap and water helps a little but it doesn't get rid of them completely... Either way, no more couch for Josephine.

    19. Not sure if this counts, but in the first 15 minutes of taking my first doll out of his box, I lost one of his extra hands (they were event hands with different finger poses). It was there one moment and then it wasn't. I was bummed at first, but I haven't used any of his other hands he came with so I honestly don't miss it much now.

    20. Actually...none of my dolls have ever been damaged in my care (I have bought a few rescue projects/fixer-uppers though) unless we count mild yellowing over time (10 years). I'm good at sculpting, modding, and repairs though and I'm of the mindset that nearly any damage apart from your doll being a pile of dust can be fixed so if anything were to happen I don't see that it would be a huge deal.
