1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Victorian Winter Dolls discussion

Jun 30, 2010

    1. Well I know what I have to start saving for don't I? LOL
Monarchs are awesome! oooo must figure some way to incorporate that sort of fae into my resin family and stories.
      I love inspiration! XD

    2. I was going crazy with everyones ideas and inspirations of their Odettes! I think mine has finally came to me. Right now, her name will be and hope it doesn't change Evangeline from Longfellows Poems. Although the description describes her has brown hair and dark eyes, mine is just the opposite.

More later when the rest stops floating around in my head and comes down to play!

SDs used to be my favorite sizes until carrying them around was a bit much, so I tried a MiniFee, and it works out well, so now I will have a companion to take with me too!!!! Hooray for the MSD's!!!!

    3. Tattered wings? Oh poor Gwendolyn...

I can't wait to see more insect wings! I love Luna Moth!! *__*

      Cicada wings are lovely too!

I am anxious to brush my Odette's dragondly ones!

    4. ^^

I did a little experiment last night!
I casted a bad wing (Had a huge bubble in it, can't use it) and I wanted to see how strong my resin is. So I trotted over to my hubby and asked him to break it. (He looked confused lol) He had to use all his strength to snap it! He bench presses around 250lbs to give you an idea. So I'd say don't worry about if she were to fall on them, they won't break :) I haven't tested fingers yet, might do that the next time I get a bad one. I'm really happy with the resin I'm using. It hasn't chipped at all!

    5. I am happy to hear the resin is strong! Faeires are far more resilient than they look!! Being fairy is not an easy job...

    6. LOL! I'm glad to hear this too! I live in earthquake country O_O My doll case falling over has kept me up at nights with worry! It's good to know she might be earthquake safe herself! :D

    7. Can't wait to hear updates on Gwendolen! :)

    8. I'm waiting on my Odette, so exciting! :) What does everyone think of the name Evangeline?

The wait seems like forever when you are waiting on a dolly. LOL

      XDXDXDXD

    9. Good name; good poem (Longfellow).

I hope she has better luck than Evangeline of the poem though. I'm sure she will; she's full of magick.

    10. I like the name, but her story is sad. So I'm not sure, but that's what I'm coming up with so far!

Plus she doesn't have the brown treses or black eyes either...........hmmmmm..........maybe something else? But at least I have a fall back on name.

    11. This has been a very frustrating few weeks.

First my printer broke, and then my sewing machine in just a few days of each other. I've been trying to get them fixed but its set me back a week.
I'm going to my moms today to print out the extras for shipping (certificate, instructions, shipping labels, etc.) I'm going to have to do the pillows by hand (gaahh, disaster)
Please bare with me everyone. Its been a rather stressful week :(

    12. I know the feeling with sudden expenses. Just had electrical work done that, if I'd had a household surge protector might not have happened. *sigh* At least the resins can be cool (and me too).

Take the time needed as you're only one person. :)

    13. Aw, it's okay VictorianWinter. Murphy just loves to visit in the most inconvenient of times, but then again, having him for a guest is never a welcome. pm'd ya on your machine problems. I tend to have things happen from time to time.

    14. Oh no! Sorry to hear this VictorianWinter! Hopefully it all turns out okay. If your machine is beyond repair, I just found that Wal*Mart has some pretty unbelievable deals on Brother brand machines. I might have to finally let go of my little broken Kenmore and go for it.

I actually finally decided that I would wait to see what Gwendolyn looks like before I buy Odette. I have something really special in mind for my Odette but I honestly don't think I could afford to buy two VW dolls. So I'm gonna wait to see what my options are!

    15. Oh I can so agree on Murphy's unwanted business >.>'' Everything was going great til it came to packing them :\ I just got everything printed (I printed plenty of extra's just in case) and now I'm onto hand sewing. I could quite possibly get them in today! (just as long as something ridiculous doesn't happen like my head exploding XD)

I want to try to see if I can actually fix my Sewing machine before buying a new one (Since I have to buy a new printer :\) I don't know if my walmart still has any sewing machines since they got rid of the fabric section but I'll look! <3
I'll be getting her ready to be finished molding today after I finish packing the dolls. I just have to do her head and wings then I can cast her in resin.

      *reads some above posts*
OH I did the finger-breaking experiment. It takes some strength to do it, but I highly doubt they will break during shipping or even falling on them for that matter. I even tried stepping on them (Tile and carpet) and the resin bent a little, but didn't break or crack! Pretty much the only way a finger can break off is if its intentional.
I was thinking, if anyone wants to know if something about the sturdiness of my resin (Face falling on pavement type things) the next time I have a bad cast I can test it. I'll make sure to take pictures of the process too. I think my next one will be dents and to see how boiling effects this resin (since its clearly a different type then what most doll companies use)

Evangeline is a gorgeous name!! :* I can't wait to see what everyone does with their dolls!! <3<3<3 gaahhh *runs off to sew*

    16. Victorian Winter - Sorry to hear about your troubles, I hate weeks like that :( Just a quick warning: I bought a sewing machine from Wal-Mart a few years ago (Brother brand I think). It wasn't too expensive but it wasn't super cheap either. It broke in a month, and it never sewed all that well. I've been looking for a new machine too and I noticed that Sears has some decently priced Singers. Also sometimes you can buy refurbished olddie-but-goddies from the sewing machine/vacuum repair shops. Hopefully things will perk up for you next week :)

    17. Wow Ladyroselie, that's a good warning about the Wal*Mart/Brother machines. A friend of mine broke my machine (doh...) and said that instead of having it repaired ($150 repair!) I should just go to Wal*Mart and get a brand new one. I know Brother is a brand that's been around forever, but I dunno, maybe Wal*Mart bought them out to turn around junk machines to sell in their stores...

    18. I hope this doesn't offend anyone; but I don't trust Wal-Mart. I heard that they do carry national brands of many things but they are the "cheaper quality lines of those brands." Like Jockey socks anywhere else would last, but WM's Jockey's will get a hole in the ankle super fast (both my mom and I have has these issues with them several times, not just with the sewing machine). I just stopped going there.

My mom had a Singer, it was pretty basic. It lasted 20+ years (though it occasionally did have to be repaired) if it is a good quality machine and you like the way it sews, it is a good investment even with occasional repairs, IMHO. I am still on a (limited) search for a new machine.

I know it sucks when your machine breaks. I've been without one for a few years now and I can't believe how much I miss sewing. Maybe it'll go on my Christmas list, behind Odette of course ;)

    19. Thank you Roselie, I finished the pillows just now, not as pretty but you can't really tell :D I'm finishing the bubble wrap and taping her up! :)

I don't sew much anymore, I used to cosplay so I'd use it about once a year (For a few days) Its a Singer that my mom bought around 2008, then gave it to me a year later since I sew more then her. (She has a $2000 dollar one now XD)
I only use it for the doll pillows anymore, which is kinda messed up since it decides to not agree with me now lol. But I don't find it offensive about Wal*mart, stuff there does fall apart/break faster. But thats why its cheap lol. I'll look around if I have to get a new sewing machine before I get any from there I guess *crosses fingers she can fix it so she doesnt have to*

    20. Yeah I don't think it should surprise anyone that even Wal*Mart's branded products are "offbrand" LOL! I'm just disappointed, I thought that I finally had a solution to my broken sewing machine. I have my fingers crossed for you too, VW!
