Volks DearSD 43cm Discussion Part 2

Sorry I have been MIA, overtime work has been keeping me QUITE busy. I'm excited to see everyone's new dolls coming in though! Lovely to see Mai and Vanessa already. =)

My Tiffany arrived ahead of schedule today! But, my family very kindly offered that she could be my holiday gift for this year, and I agreed. So we opened her up tonight after work for a quick inspection, but then she's going back in the box for two months until gifting time, hehe. It was hard not to take her out all the way, I'm very excited and I'll have to live vicariously through other DSD photos for now.

 

@Glace Leau : What a cutie! I love how you can see her freckles underneath her mask. Aaah! I hope the time passes fast so you can play with her soon.

 

I didn't end up entering the recent lottery and now I have bad DSD fomo I have been looking at the second hand market for one and the prices vary so much! It's hard to pin point what's a good price for them. I've seen as low as 680 and as high as 2k

 

@Glace Leau She is really pretty. I like the freckles too. The peach dress is perfect for her. Can't wait to see more photos in 2 months. You are amazingly patient!

Mai arrived yesterday. Weather has not been good for photos. I hope to play and take photos over the weekend.

Can someone remind me best way to get glued eyes out? Freezer? Her eyes are beautiful, but it would be fun to try other colors.

My Vanessa arrived yesterday in the beautiful baby blue dress. I took her to her first meetup yesterday and got her a new wig, switched out her eyes and used this cute Robin's egg nest headdress to customize her a little bit. She's looking so beautiful! These DearSDs are going to be dangerous to me now... =_=;

@nintendallie : I haven't done as much research on DSDs second hand but I imagine their mark ups could get high. For one, I notice other collectors are wanting to hybridize the body with other heads, but also because they seem to do them in small batches. I hope you can enter for the next event, or find one decently priced secondhand. I looked up DSD Una and was immediately sad when I saw the price tag. I'll wait for a re-release...

@Oliveoil : The easiest way I do it is I gently push the eyeball from the outside inward inside the head until it pops out. Then I take a blunt tool, I use a plastic wedge used for clay sculpting (not a sharp one because you might scratch the head or injure yourself), and then I push down on top of the glue until it peels off. It usually comes off pretty easy and doesn't damage the faceup or the lashes. I did the same with my Vanessa...Volks kinda glued her eyes in funny lol

@Oliveoil Hopefully the weather clears up for you! I can't wait to see her! Volks recommends enamel thinner in this video but honestly it sounds terrifying to get it so close to the faceup. I'd try other methods first personally.


@Dybbuk Those blue eyes are so beautiful against her tan skin and black wig. Vanessa really does make a beautiful DSD!

@nintendallie I know right. The asking prices are all over the place. There doesn't seem to be enough to go around anyway. I'm just going to sit and wait patiently until Mother SD says it's my turn. I don't really want to pay any second hand markup and especially don't want to support a scalper.

@Oliveoil I pretty much follow the same steps as Dybbuk when it comes to removing Volks eyes, I also just pop my heads in the freezer for about 10 minutes before doing so.

@Dybbuk Thanks! I feel like Volks glass eyes are hit and miss. It's nice to know that this color shows up so nicely.

 

They most definitely can be hit or miss. I also do photo editing, but didn't need to do much with my Vanessa's eyes. I think what helps are her eyes are pretty large and her upper eyelid isn't too thick so the eyes nestle perfectly in her, and capture light very well. One last picture before bed, because I'm too obsessed for my own good with my little DearSD babies! ^o^

Not the best indoor photo. Here is my Mai. I had more fun trying wigs and outfits on her. I love getting a doll that looks great in all the wigs I have.

@Dybbuk Your girls are just so lovely! I love how different they look despite being from the same company on the same body. I'm not sure if anyone admitted to winning a Nico or Mel in this thread but I hope someone posts some pictures! I don't want any guilt of winning to stop anyone from sharing their beautiful new girls

@nyaaain : I absolutely agree! Volks has this remarkable ability of making a vast array of dolls that look different but still have this intrinsic Volks quality to them. I do hope someone will share Nico and Mel as well. I don't know how limited these DSDs batches are but hope they do another event for people who missed them. I'm glad the DSD line seems popular at least so I think Volks will keep making them. ^_^

@Oliveoil : Your Mai looks so good in a lot of wig colors! haha they are like little bricks. My little one is so easy to pose and play with.

@rakelnaomi : Your Luna is GORGEOUS! I would love to welcome an Una one day Please share more of her with us. She's so beautiful.

So general question to everyone... aside from Volks, what are other companies that make clothes that could be compatible with DSD. I notice that Rosenlied Holiday child (even though they closed) and the Luts Baby Delf line are much more petite than the DSD... so not sure where anyone else has had some luck?

 

I have never intended to get a DSD, however Nico chan is too adorable to avoid. She arrived last week, I absolutely love her MC1R genetic. I made a short unboxing video of Nico, and hopefully you will enjoy it.

I have been looking for clothing that fits DearSD too. The ones Volks makes are beautiful but the price with shipping and taxes is a bit steep for me. I tried ordering some clothes made for the Our Generation playline dolls (roughly the same size as American Girl), I’ll report on how they fit once they arrive!
