Volks Dollfie Dream Mini discussion part 1

I have a similar problem with MDD ,I owned one and I didn't like her knees
and how unstable and fragile they felt but many people have pointed out ideas
that could correct that problem so i'm thinking of giving them another try too..^__^

it's a shame they haven't designed special optional heads for the MDD yet,
since the DDII heads do not fit the body too well i the neck mechanism area..
I hope one day we'll get to see a lot of new cute young anime heads for the MDD~!

 

she arrived today! and shes very sweet!



this head is sweet too, but it may get swapped to an obitsu 60cm and the head that was going on there might get put on this body... but for now... cuteness as is! She has no name yet.

 

I just got my first MDD after collecting DDs for about a year, I was kind of horrified by how floppy the body was. I completely took her apart and tried to tightened up her joints but I still have a hard time getting her to stand on her own ^^;

I absolutely adore Illya, I think she may end up being my only MDD though (definitely pushed a few MDDs on my wishlist a little father down priority-wise).

 

I was really close to buying one of these, they're so irresistible. They don't pack the realistic punch of a resin BJD, but those faces, and especially the new animetic eyes. . . !

I'm starting to worry about the posing, though. At least you can restring a true BJD. I've also heard that the Dollfie Dream is a good way to ease into BJD's, since they're less expensive and hold their value. But that doesn't take into account that they might be harder to keep in pristine condition.

I don't know about the claim that their heads look oversized on their necks. It looked to me like the neck sizes were pretty comparable to those of most anime characters. Thoughts?

OK, pulled the trigger...I'm picking her up on March 6th.




This is the combo, but the faceup will hopefully make her look less angelic and more snarky.



The Haruhi Suzumiya faceup is very similar to the faceup I want, but I want it to be softer and subtler, and I want her to look like she could be a relative of Zetto.

I finally e-mailed Volks about white MDDs and a white HDD-04 head.

They wrote back;

Volks LA Store has the nicest "We have no idea." response ever. At least we know it's possible.

 

OK guys...finally getting around to posting this in this thread.

I got my MDD. And dig this: SHE STANDS. The little feet make balance a little bit hard, but apparently there was a redesign of the MDD somewhere down the line, and Namiko has a v.2 body. Her ankles and her knees feel just about right...very similar to a DD2.

Here's a pic without her faceup...she's at Biff's now waiting to get her face on.



She's SOOOO cute!!! Yayz!

Here it is...the evidence. Note that the way the sun is hitting her would reveal a stand. There apparently IS such a thing as MDD v.2, and I have one.



She is tippy, but for another reason. She's got a high center of gravity. Big head. Small body. Little teensy feet. The "chibi" proportions are super-cute, but they make for a doll you have to work at getting to balance.

She may be a MDD V.2, or it might be that she is new and her joints are tight/haven't been used yet...

My sister's MDD stands pretty well because we got her fairly new, where my MDD on the other hand can't sand to save her life because she's been played with too much ^^;

You will know for sure if its a new body structure if, after playing with her for a while, she continues to stand just as well.
I hope you're right lol, but I would think Volks would announce a body improvement...

Well, at least we know that there is a fix for her should her knees and/or ankles get floppy. The KIPS mod seems to work.

There are definitely things I want to do which will actually require stands...I need to find out where to get those awesome Japanese clear plastic stands that look a little like Octopi and can support a doll in multiple ways. I want to take some "action shots" of Namiko being a showoff on her skateboard, especially now that the skateboard got grip tape and stickers and now looks like something real that a person would ride.

It's good that she can stand for now. How long ago did your sister get her MDD? If it was fairly recent she might have a v.2 as well. Bailey at Torrance Tenshi no Sumika specifically said something about this. I have been equivocating a little thinking maybe I was just imagining it but no, Biff heard that explanation too. It's not a dream. It's a Dollfie Dream, but not a dream about the v.2 part. Yeah, you'd think they would make an announcement if this was the case. However, I suspect there is a reason (legal) behind it, because they might be on the hook to replace legs if they made it public. Or something else, I dunno.

My sister has the MDD Mirai and we got her 2nd hand, and she stands really well! ^^
I hope your right because I wanted to get mine a new body because her legs are always falling out and she collapses all over the place -_-;;

I dont want to get a new body and have it be as lame as the old one though.... the MDD bodies are so frustrating I was considering upgrading Mayu to an s-bust DD body, maybeee (but I just love the "chibi proportions" X3 )

Clothing is all made by me. I've had to draft/write up patterns for most of her stuff, as she's skinnier than most MSD's it seems and so needs some tailor-made clothing She's an utter brat, despite looking so angelic, but she's too adorable to resist! Though I think she may demand more company her size soon....

That would be a volks wig I styled into braided pigtails to keep it from tangling. It's the super long DD one

 

Is there a DD FAQ around some where? I've looked, but I cant find one.
I've been through most of the Dollfie dream discussion threads and learned quite allot over the past couple of days but... I really want to know basic stuff like:
which wigs fit best and from what companies
which clothes fit best and from what companies
which shoes
the best kind of wig cap to use and where to find it etc. etc.
