Volks Dolpa SD17 Reisner Discussion

Cassiel ~ THANK YOU so much for that last auction link. My Lord, he is so gorgeous. I definitely had the *melt into a puddle* reaction too.

I'm not often a big fan of Volks faceups (my White Cat Chris has a morbidollz faceup now) and I've been fretting about whether or not I'd want to keep his ~ but now I think I'll be happy with it.

 

If you think this is bad, I've counted 40 Suiseisekis so far.

Really, this is a pretty standard practice at all Dolpas. A lot of people go to scalp for Y!JA. Some people take friends and family so that they have more chance to get good lottery numbers.

It sucks for a lot of reasons, because it guarantees to drive the price up, since you have to buy it at what they list it at/what people bid it up to. And even Volks really dislikes scalping because it stops people from being able to buy the doll they dearly love at the original price rather than an inflated one. (Mikey says when she looks at a queue of people waiting to buy a doll, she can tell the scalpers from those who really want the dolls.)

But, as thesaraghina noted earlier, it DOES allow those of us who can't get the doll any other way to have at least one chance at it, even if the price is higher. Like for those who weren't able to attend the Volks Cruises in Japan (and even many Japanese did not get to attend the cruises, the numbers were SERIOUSLY limited and those of us who got to go were very lucky) but still desperately loved Cecile the Scarface, auction was the only way for them to get him, and I don't doubt for a second that those people love their Scarfaces every bit as much as people who attended the cruises, whatever they had to pay to get them.

So, while it's disheartening, and I don't like the practice much myself due to the way the prices go (Shinku on Y!JA was seriously ) I totally understand why it is not completely a bad thing.

I totally understand what you mean. I really like his faceup. (It is quite reminscent of Cecile too.. or certainly the first Cecile the Scarface, it reminds me of mine alot before I had him repainted. Ah, they are SO related! )

And White Cat Chris/Black Cat Lucas were... well... definitely NOT some of Volks' best faceups. But Reisner is really beautifully done.

 

well... of course many of us were sitting here refreshing the page and he wasn't showing up in our carts...

He finally appeared in my cart and 1:09 (11:09 California time) and I typed in my order information fairly quickly, but re-read it all a couple of times to make sure I'd typed it right (after all, we have a few days!). Almost as soon as I closed the page I received my first email (the one confirming that I had placed an order). The time on the email is 1:10.

The time on my "order shipped" email is 7:06.

 

Oooh, thanks Cassiel! Wow . . . I am very impressed by this boy. When I commited to buy a Luna based on Volks pics, I knew as soon as I saw owner pics of her that she wasn't for me (I must've used up all my dollie luck on her too, lol). But Reisner looks amazing!

22 seems like an awful lot,. I wonder if that means that there was a reasonable amount of him at the Dolpa, or if more people than usual are selling him?

I am seriously considering trying for him on Y!J, but does anyone know what he's been ending at? *bookmarks a bunch of auctions about to end* The Volks USA price is already quite a bit higher than it would be in JPY, and with CA sales tax, well . . . And I wouldn't mind paying some more to get him SO much sooner. But not for $2000! lol.

The only ones that have ended so far are BIN auctions.. but I think these are higher than what his general market value will be, they are the ones won by people who really want him and don't care about the cost so much. Everyone else is trying to get a better deal by going the standard auction route. I could be wrong about this though, his market value may reach the BIN prices.. I'm just guessing!

The finished BINs so far have been at:
185,000yen, 250,000yen, 200,000yen, 250,000yen, and 200,000yen.

Otherwise, his price on actual auction is fluctuating wildly. One auction is up to 231,000yen, one is still as low as 128,000yen, but around 150,000-180,000yen seems to be where they're all floating atm. Still, who knows how the last minute bidding will go...

(No, I don't have every Reisner auction ever listed bookmarked, why do you ask? *shifty eyes* )

 

thats really weird >_> cos i slammed that order in right when it started working straight and i only got the normal "order placed email" (same with the dolpa 16 and i won that)

Is anyone else or did anyone else having trouble with the page? I've been trying to get an order in for about an hour now and the page just won't load. I have gone through a lot of trouble to try for Reisner and I dunna wanna have my chances go pffft because the page won't load ;_; Is it a problem with Internet Explorer maybe? Augh this is so frustrating! (Yes, I know it's open until the 7th, but if it doesn't start working at some point... well, I will not be a happy camper :T)

 

--side note on that email thing too, for everyone whose fought over new items on volksusa, if the items gone it will tell you your checkout box it empty...so no one would get a confirmation email saying you bought it >_>
(plus my moneys still missing :p )

Cassiel, thank you, your imput is super useful! And I'd be glad if someone else did have all those auctions bookmarked . . . goodness knows I have enough of 'em! I think I'll join you in keeping a close eye on what the auctions end at, and see what kind of price is around average. Reisner is $1408 from Volks USA, plus about $116 in sales tax. So the prices on Y!J don't really seem THAT bad.

And wow, you're right s2kitty, he has gloves! I never noticed, but they look so cool! I hope you can get him, every Reisner needs an owner that will love him so much.

I know this isn't exactly on-topic for this thread, but (maybe someone here will know the answer)...

I think I've lost my little Volks Membership card thingie that they sent me after I bought my White Cat Chris (I got him when Volks USA was selling the extras). Assuming I DO get a Reisner, will I get a new one with him? On the Volks site it says you can pay to replace your card, but I reeeealy don't wanna hafta do that....

 

by the way... still nobody else has gotten a shipped order email like mine?

if nobody else has gotten one by tomorrow, I think I'll email them and ask about it.
