1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Volks Mini thread (MSD, SDC, Midi sized dolls) - Part 2

May 30, 2021

    1. @PinkBear, I think generally the more recent releases of SDC (Mina, May, 2nd ed. Renee) didn't sell well. I noticed them lingering on the Volks Japan webstore a while after their releases. And I think Hansel and Gretel weren't a success either. Volks may have decided that there was no point in making dolls that didn't sell out quickly, which I think also applies to some types in their SD range, too. Plus, other companies' slim minis sell better, since their issues are more readily available than Volks', and they're more mature looking body-wise than SDC . I think it's a shame, as I like the SDC body, but... they are a business, and the bottom line dictates things.

    2. @PinkBear I only own SDC, but had experienced with all 1/4 Volks body (MSD, SDM and SDC... Oh except the DearSD). So, I also agree that I like their body the most.

Two things that I can confirm while talking to Volks's staff in Tenshi no Sato is that the sculptor of most SDC sculpt is the same person/team and that is different from the team that sculpt MSD heads. (Not sure why they have to separate them :huh?:) And that they are not discontinue but when will they release another SDC is unknown.

Maybe it's a business thing, like what @beamlette said. I had a high hope when the new Journey to the Dream Night series this year feature a 1/4 scale... well... Turn out it's an SDM :sorry

Btw, here's my SDC Gretel enjoying her summer night in my room :XD:

    3. Thank you beamlette for this insightful reply. That's a shame that the SDC's don't sell better than the SDM's but I can see what you mean about other companies offering more mature 1/4s that suit the majority of people looking for that style; i.e. more mature like a Fairyland Minifee. I guess it's not worth the marketing to promote an SDC as much as an SDM or other dolls. Maybe the right collaboration, like a Disney or licensed character that needs to be 1/4 with a more mature body might help? :D

I didn't know that they were separate, that is really interesting and a little odd?
Yes, I was hoping for a new SDC release too but SDM's are quite popular now (think I just answered my own question!)

Your Gretel is so pretty <3 !

    4. Ryo Asuka makes a cute girl, I think. I've had her a while now, but I finally managed to get hold of the back wings and now she finally feels complete!

That dress your Gretel is wearing is gorgeous! (of course your Gretel is as well!)

    9. Hi! Sorry if this is unwelcome. I've been searching the forums and can't find the info anywhere else.
Does anyone know what size of S hook the heads use?
My friend has an old MSD and he's got the rubber band instead of magnets. She unstrung him to pack and his S hook got lost. We're confident he's legit and he's got an 8 in his head/headcap, if the specific head matters. We don't know anything past that. He was a secondhand purchase (with the metal head plate- he's legit). Between that and being left at a relative's house for years, a lot has been lost and so we're not sure what we actually need to restring him the right way.
Also, do the older msds run elastic through the metal hand pieces or are there supposed to be s hooks there too?
I've found the Volks USA listing for the msd hooks but we're hoping to avoid shipping, if we can.

    10. Msd is the size to get. Are you in the USA? Volks USA has a set of them in stock along with a new Rubber band. They also have the Msd size Elastic String. S-Hook SetMSD

If you are overseas I would use the Online store in Japan. 金具パーツセットMSD
Yes. You string little S hooks in the hands and feet to attach the elastic. I have an older Msd Fsc F-08.

Volks also sells stringing tools for Msd.

Here is an old thread about stringing an older Msd.

Here is a Video restringing older Msd.

    11. I would grab a few things from Volks to make the shipping worth it. Domestically for some small things it would be less than $10 in my experience.

So what I would get is a new set of hooks, a new set of strings, and a small pitatto ring because that will help the headcap stay on and help with wigs as a bonus. I just found the rubber bands very very fiddly with my one that has them and this is much better imo.

You don’t need a stringing tool but it does help.

    12. @ginarolo Thank you! I'd found that thread, but wasn't sure it was the same body. I've got no experience with these dolls I'll make sure we get some s hooks. I think the previous owner left them off, because this boy doesn't have any.
@amandabuns Thanks for the recommendation- wasn't sure what that was. I'll snag one of those and the set. It sounds like we need more specific parts than I hoped, and I only want to do this once.

      Thank you!

Edit- for anyone curious, no, we did not get the doll together.

    14. I love this style, she looks so cute! :D What eyes are those, they are so pretty? I’m thinking about getting pink eyes. :kitty2

    15. @Sweetiemi Thank you :whee:
And about the eyes, It's Sadol urethane, Basic Planet no.3

Sadol have their english website which you can order the exact same eyes, but I got this pair from Dolk store front in Akihabara.

    17. Hi, does anybody know which brand's hands are compatible with Volks' MSD bodies? I would like to swap my doll's current hands with ones that look a bit more mature. I'd appreciate any help, thank you! :3nodding:

    18. I'd love to see some owners' pics of the new super dolfie midi standard models, especially Coco.

    19. What is up with the sculpted-on wig stopper on the newest SDM heads? Does anyone have any idea how it looks with flatter wigs, especially ones that are parted without bangs?

I must have missed it in the specifications for the 10th Anniversary SDMs, I've been really wanting Coco but I only just now saw a photo of her bald and now I'm questioning my desire to get her lol. I'm assuming I'll have to sand that entire bump off of her head if I want to use a flatter wig made with a thinner fiber than what Volks normally does.

    20. I got an SD Alto recently with the same wig stoppers and it’s more of a hinderance than a help. When it works, it works well, but it’s frustrating when it doesn’t.

I’ve started my “yearbook” project by taking some school portraits of my SDC crew. Here’s Maaya (SDC Renee), you can find the rest on my Flickr.
