1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Volks SD16 girl "Olivia Morgan" Discussion thread

Jun 26, 2006

    1. If you're going to the event you didn't have to send in the form. We've been over this...invited attendees get first shot at the limited number of dolls...the number I was told about a month ago was LE100. If there are any left, then guests get second shot. I was also told a small number were being set aside for SUBSCRIBERS to FDQ to have a shot at. She IS very limited and not anyone can just order her and get her. She cannot sell out before the event, and no one sending in the form will get one over someone at the event.

    2. Face closeup looks rather like my foster daughter (who IS almost 16.) I like that picture... (probably because at that angle it looks like a person whom I like - who is also blond and blue-eyed, incidentally. :p)

No ankle joints?? - oi. LESS poseability than other dolls (unless, of course, it's not the final body she'll have when released?) That also makes her default high-heel-footed, which gives her less flexibility of clothing styles and she'd look rather silly/Barbie-footed when barefoot. I LIKE my girls to be able to stand barefoot and dress casual/sneakers/et al. I don't care for high-heeled feet. Even my new Ren can wear her default shoes with their heels, yet she still has flat MSD-sized feet.

Picture of head plus body gave me the immediate first impression of "Yukinojo in drag!" Could be because the eyebrows are painted low down like on boy BJDs, though.

Body thinner than an SD13? The one in the photo looks fairly anorexic, except that her boobs still have volume. Those calves are painfully thin. Or maybe the head looks a bit too large for the body?

Personally, I don't see a Sakaki resemblance. Sakaki's face looks wider / more square to me, and Olivia's lips are very Yukinojo-like, particularly the way the lower lip "pouts" forward.

Staring quite closely at my SDC Arashi, I don't see a resemblance to his lips either.

I could see possibly collecting the head, and looking for another, better body (girl or boy.)

She's way too Barbie-ish for me the way she's pictured right now. (And BOY is that long blond straight hair a complete LA-girl stereotype-look - they should make sure she's got dark roots showing too where the bleaching has grown out... :p )

    3. I can't see the pictures (unavailable it says) and I'm so curious

    4. Oh great, thanks Karisu! (And Janne) Hmm I like Olivia, but I like a younger doll more,(child) not a woman :blush

    5. I have to put in to disagree, as usual, with this idea that Yukinojo actually being manly somehow makes him an 'action figure'. Just because he's not a girly-looking, skinny little boy doesn't somehow make him a GI, well, Joe.

Nobody complains that SDC Arashi is an action figure, and look at the joints on him! Same as Yukinojo's, still similar to, say, the Neo Go boys. Yet because Yukinojo is muscular he gets branded an action figure? Argh. Remus still, despite being an 'action figure'(Wait, no, he's a BJD, just like the rest of them!), blends in just fine with my other dolls. He looks a bit older, and definitely more manly than, say, Ephram's thin CP boy body, but he certainly doesn't scream 'I'm out of place'. :-/ He just screams that he's the MAN of the house instead of being a little boy. >3

...Which is back to this girl. I can't see her fitting in at all. Her features and proportions and jointing/lack thereof DO make her scream 'I'm out of place', and I certainly couldn't imagine her fitting in at all next to, say, Alisa!

(Mind you, Alisa's giant head would probably dominate this girl's, so. X3)

(To clarify - If she's really skinnier than a SD13 girl, then at best she'd be about the same thickness as Alisa, who's on a CP girl body, which is very thin(The SD boy I used to have had much bigger limbs than her...), if not thinner than that. If she's taller than normal it'd look odd, if she's not, it'd still look odd. Remus still works with the other dolls because you can look at him and the others and think 'OK, this one is taller/broader/probably older/certainly more buff than those ones' - You can look at Ephram, assume he's younger and probably not much of a physical person, Lukas' SD13 boy body makes him look older and more built than Ephram, and Remus looks like a more active, older still person. But if this girl was next to Alisa, since she's supposed to be 25" according to the order form, which is 63.5 centimeters... Yeowch! That's not going to work very well, and if she's skinnier and taller than the larger-limbed SD13 girl... :-/ )

    6. Sometimes, extremely limited(Scarface Cecile..*bangs head against the wall of LE frustration* ..ahem, sorry..and Shinku, and Sasha for example)and sometimes..not all that limited at all(Yukinojo, and now, Lucas and Chris..)..so..it's kind of hit and miss with limited stuff..

I have to agree with Pony_Geri that their business tactics are confusing, but well, I don't think they'll ever change it because it seems to work for them..just a bit of a shame for us. By the way, being puzzled about business tactics is something way different than not liking the dolls, so you can disagree with a company's policy and still buy the dolls-simply because you like them. Vice versa, you don't have to 'yaaaaay!!!!!' at everything a company does-even if it's questionable-just because you enjoy their dolls. It's okay to have critique, and to ask questions. We don't have to like everything. I HATE how they handled the sale of Scarface Cecile, still I bend over backwards to get him-because I absolutely love him as a doll. That doesn't take away that I don't like how Volks sold him. Same with other companies-I might not agree with how they handle stuff, but I'd still get the doll if I love it. In the end, it's the doll that sits next to you and that you hug, and dress, and play with..not the company.

I don't know, I just felt like saying that. Sorry if it's out of line.

    7.
    8. Thanks for hosing the pic Janne.

It is rather odd for her to have no ankle joint. They remind me of the 1/6th Dollfie boot ankles or Barbie's feet, and I agree with those that have said that hopefully there is an optional set of calves and feet with an ankle joint. I can imagine it would be nigh impossible to get her to stand up in flat soled shoes

I still don't like her face, but I'm excited to see owner faceups and photos of her body.

    9. Well, I like her - I think she is beautiful and I like her more 'mature' shape. I would like jointed ankles but the high heeled feet could be nice and it is different. She is coming home definitely - and I think Yukinojo will like her. I have almost all Volks dolls - I like the quality and feel they have been very good to deal with. I work for a large company and like the 'family' Volks brings to their business. I had to call to LA several times when I got Yukinojo in the lottery and they were so nice to deal with! For those who don't like the re-releases, I am sure people who are putting in for the Shiro lottery would disagree with you (smile). Anyway, I am happy with her, and I did send a note to FDQ and ask about the form. Pat answered and said people going to the party could order at the party and would have first dibs on the doll.

    10. Sorry, been away - but as you know the FDQ site is down (ya'll have blown it out!). Just heard from Pat and she's trying to get it back up. I posted some more info in the News thread to avoid any rumors.
Also, Pat wants you to know that it wasn't our choice to ship the dolls after the event, so if you have any complaints send them to Volks. They're really the ones running the show.
      Thanks for listening ...

    11. I have removed several comments in this thread. please avoid superfluous or unrelated complaints that are either not about the doll herself or are directed to other members. Thanks. :daisy

Edit: And I don't mean you can't complain about the girl if you don't like her, I meant please don't complain about other unrelated things!

    12. she looks beautiful in the close-up pic!
the only thing that I don't like about Olivia is that she looks like she is Yukinojo's little or older sister...but maybe with a different make-up, wig, outfit and maybe sanding her nose a little bit...she can look even more beautiful and very different! = D
I don't know what to say much about her feet...they look kinda cool...it makes her look like a more adult woman...but I have one question...would she "really" be able to stand on her own? ^ ^;...well in the picture she is standing by herself...lets hope she really does stands well when people starts to receive her = )

    13. She is not bad.. am sure when people are gonna get her and make her their own she will become gorgeous.. Alot of BJDs passed by me where I didn't pay any attention to them but when I see them owned with new face ups they just become Irresistible.... I am sure Olivia is gonna be the same :)

They only downside is the no ankle joint!!!! I always have my girls running around barefoot...

    14. Nah...this doll is not speaking to me, she looks like one of my Tyler Wentworth dolls (Syndey Chase) just in SD16 and made of resin. I'll just get Bella Auden or Ipsae instead. For those that get her post lots of pics of her nude and in different poses, maybe someone could re-paint her and then she may appeal to more.

    15. I'd love to see body shots. I have no interest in that headmold though. But I am wondering wether this body has many joints or is more like a mature SD13 body with not as many joints. I'm also curious if SD heads can fit on it! I'd love for my Madoka to have a more mature body.

[edit] Just looked at more pics of her. So she definitely doesn't have ankle joints. O_O Odd...I mean it looks pretty, but that would make posing more troublesome I think.

    16. That was my exact reaction when I saw pics of her. Though I do like the look of the body sculpt. The ankles are a problem though. I really hope they consider putting out a future SD16 girl with ankle joints.

    17. wow... this is the first time i've actually seen the picture of Olivia (although i have been following this thread very closely for a while) and now i fully understand everyone's range of reactions. i'm so curious about her body now! :ablink: man, i hope they showcase an Olivia (somewhat)naked when i see her at the NY Tea-- i HAVE to see... all her resin idiocincracies before i can decide whether i like her or not. :barf

    18. Hi Susie Q, I'll be quite happy with this girl, at my age, with my youthful facial features slowly falling the way towards my knees (which, btw seem to be dripping towards my ankles), this is a lovely doll scupt. Looks a bit like a college roomy of mine, light on make-up, earthy (i.e. she will be earthy in a sixtys style skirt and top). I don't see a L.A. look to her, except for the fashion, maybe. But, I have never been in L.A. My B-D present to me! see you there!

    19. A lot of people have been saying she looks like a Barbie, but I think that has more to do with how she is presented in the photos. While she is not my particular cup of tea, I think she will have tons of potential, and I can't wait to see pics from owners that have repainted/re-dressed her!
