Volks Super Dollfie - SD, SD13, SD16, SD17, SDGr, SDGou & FCS - XXXII

I saw this post and also expected as if only 30 dolls would be available through online lottery. Unfortunately, I’ve officially received defeated email 2 hours ago

I think YBJ was Japan limited sale, but I'm not sure about regular BJ.

 

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but they were both the same mold, right? Just different face-up?

 

Thank you for the thorough reply. The reason I brought it up is that they might re-release Sapphire with the dress, and the yoSD elf with her later maybe?
Well, I am hoping at least. I wish they had done her as a pre-order.

 

@himitsu, I don't know if that was confirmed or not? I have a Young Black Jack head and I could compare the inner mold number if someone else has a regular head.

@Misuka, I'd be surprised to see another release. Not unhappy! Just surprised. Black Jack's first release was a preorder, so it seems like, going into it, that doll was already done differently with regards to licensing. That said, Black Jack (and Kiriko) didn't seem to fare super super well in the secondary market, though it's hard to know what the original sales numbers were like. Maybe the Tekuza estate will change their mind when they see how strong the demand is for Sapphire?

 

I am hoping that maybe they were checking to see what the fan request for Sapphire was, but I don't understand why not do a pre-order then? You can then manufacture to custom? The usual Volks mystery I guess.

 

Their head plate is different for sure. 1st Black Jack's head plate says BLACK JACK, 2nd Young Black Jack's head plate says Y BLACKJACK

I have the 1st Black Jack. I think they are the same head? It doesn't make sense for them to make a new head so soon after the 1st release. I think it's just a different face-up. Can someone confirm if they are the same head by looking inside for the head number?

 

Maybe Volks can't offer a larger release as the licence might be for a very small batch only? (Plus, Volks should be super busy right now because of the Frozen girls. xD)

Volks resins usually are not available via preorder anyway. Non-preorder with more dolls would have helped, too, though. At least to get her price down to 200-250k or something like that on the aftermarket. She seems to go for about 400k on YJA! right now.

Sounds like a really small amount of Sapphires that were available. Yikes! Maybe it was all down to licensing? Or the amount that could be licensed? Seems to me Oscar and Andre were pretty low but not as low as Sapphire.

I have Young Black Jack, who was available for pre-order at Dolpa only. The other versions of Black Jack were also preorder if memory serves. Number inside Young Black Jack is 128 is the same as the other version. I think the real difference is the make up and a little bit of clothing (Young Black Jack came with a doctor's coat). I understand that logic and it makes sense, but I would also pose the question, is the work with Tezuka an ongoing license or a case-by-case? If it is case-by-case, then the results of this might make more sense.
Volks doesn't make any sense so I will stop trying to understand, but I am sure there is a reason or the release being as such.

I would assume it's case by case, and that the low numbers are due to the licensing agreement.
It'd be one thing if it were Volks' own IP dolls (Oath of the Silver Coin, Dream Into Nights, etc) being produced in super low numbers (that Tytyl rerelease, lol), but when it's a doll from a licensed property I really don't see the point in blaming Volks, as they can only make as many dolls as the license stipulates.

@pris84 Yeah lol If we all thought Oscar and Andre were low... I'm guessing there's around ~150-200 Sapphires and probably somewhere closer to double that for Oscar and Andre? It's usually so hard to even fathom a guess, but at least we know the first two rounds for Sapphire totaled 120 dolls.

About Black Jack, I have the original one and the number inside his head is 128. So then they're really the same. For some reason I always wondered, probably cause they did look different with the face-up, different eyes and all. Thank you all!!

A new boy is here and I have to say I am in love with this grumpy little face. Still trying to decide on a name for him though.

I finally have a wig that is a nice snug fit for my boy Raphael, so he got a couple of snaps the other day.

 

So it turns out that as of today Yahoo!Japan is no longer accessible to us europeans (and the UK), so it suddenly got a whole lot harder to obtain limited Volks dolls and stuff for them.

 

Is it also unaccessible through a proxy service like Buyee?

 

@Daniel Falls It looks like it's still accessible through proxies, yes, but from what I'm seeing so far on Zenmarket and Buyee it's kind of a pain to browse that way. For one you can't go look up the original Y!J page anymore to get the full info. Guess we won't have much choice anymore though.
