1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

    1. Please don't "help" others if you don't want to have your account suspended. Otherwise, go for it.

    2. Volks could penalize for nonpayment, so… not paying for your win is not really something I’d recommend if that matters to you.

    3. Gosh, I can’t wait for more information about Yumepi…. She’s coming home with me, regardless of cost. I was pretty cut when I couldn’t get Sophie, so I won’t let it happen again!!

    4. I thought they usually just do another draw if any stock left from people not paying tho?

    5. I don't think so, on the website it says "receive stock notification". From what I heard before any extra just goes online. However it MIGHT be Volks JP rather than USA cause USA doesn't even have Regulus/Max listed anymore to get the notification option.

    6. Hmm, I never remember to pay attention to the wishlist count. Before the lottery period opened Regulus was at 56 and now he's at 79. I assume that Volks would not bother to present that metric (or a restock notification) unless they paid attention to it.

    7. New Pink House girls :aeyepop:
      And they're so cute :aheartbea
I am doomed... doomed... doomed :chomp:

I am so not going to get any work done tomorrow, waiting for details from Volks News news :sweat

    8. Does anyone know how many dalls are offered in these lotteries? it seems that there weren't too many people saying that they won.

    9. Volks never releases that info, no matter how many decades we've been asking.

    10. As a Westerner I really don't understand Volks' sales strategy. Since August 2, 2021, I have tried to give Volks USA and INTL my money. Didn't "win" the USA or International lotteries for Alice, Mytyl, Sapphire, Regulus, Maximillian, or the Icons.

I'm aware that Japan does not have the consumer culture we have in the states, that they protect the environmental and are not wasteful, and employees are treated fairly. I understand forced scarcity, to maintain efficiency, increase demand, increase price point, but.. how many other unfulfilled orders are there out there?

Why would a company leave all that money, growth potential, exposure, etc ... on the table? Is it just because I've been brainwashed by our capitalist system that I can't see the benefits of this to Volks?

    11. Volks make plenty of money across their various ventures. And for the dolls, I think the exclusivity of it all probably enhances their value to many collectors, and allows Volks to maintain a generally consistent level of quality. Many smaller, high-end brands around the world aren't looking for that endless growth you see with big corporations.

    13. This is just some personal thoughts regarding Volks’ sales and business model.

Volks isn’t trying to sell the next Barbie, they are selling collector pieces. In the luxury goods markets, things are nearly always limited. There’s more to it than selling the most and expansion. Usually what you get with businesses expanding and increasing production is a decrease in quality and I don’t think that’s Volks’ mindset.

To maintain quality you can only use a mold a limited number of times. So instead of retooling an expensive mold, use it to its maximum potential and sell only those products produced.

Volks also probably can’t actually meet consumer demand with some production lines since they’ve got several other things they do under their umbrella and dolls are only a portion. So it’s generally better to maintain quality over quantity at that point. It’s better to sell what you can produce rather than sell what you can’t make well.

    14. Just because you *can* make money, doesn’t mean it’s *smart* to make all the money.

My work is facing the same thing. We have expanded very quickly the last 3-5 years (like a jump from a 1mil company to 10mil) and it is unsustainable to maintain that level of growth. We’ve had serious talks about how and where to press the brakes so we don’t crash and burn.

I genuinely think if Volks had the business model some wished they did (unlimited preorders, dolls for everyone, etc), they would not be able to maintain the quality, frequency, or consistency they have been. We’ve seen it with so many other companies *coughfairyland* where unlimited growth/constant preorders make an area of the business suffer.

Volks seems to be doing well enough with their current model; to the point where there’s been little change over 20 years. It does suck to not get the doll you want, but I would personally rather have to turn to the secondhand market or lose a doll I want to have Volks continue at the pace they have been with releases, and the quality they have. There are other very valid areas for critique for Volks, but I don’t think the lottery system/scarcity of dolls is one that is going to change faster than the pace it has been no matter how many times this same conversation happens every few months.

    15. While I understand the point you're trying to make I just want to say Mattel has made plenty of one off and limited edition Barbie's. And Barbie can be a collector's piece just like Volk's SDs. The highest valued Barbie doll is valued at a little over 300K. I've yet to see a Volks doll go for that just yet. So lets not short change Barbie.

    16. Wasn’t trying to short change Barbie here. I know there’s limited edition models and things like that as well and that they can go for big money. But they’re not fundamentally the same type of doll and the companies operate completely differently from one another.

    17. Special website is up! <3

I really like Yumepi but given my terrible luck in Volks lotteries, the odds of bringing her home directly from Volks is low. I really should be downsizing in preparation for a move in the next two years anyway, so I’ll probably try for her if there’s an international lottery, and if I don’t win I’ll just admire her in other people’s collections.

    18. Ohhh, Macha is speaking to me in a way I hadn't anticipated...but I'm still smarting from Regulus (I just can't see me going for his secondary market prices), so I'm not even going to consider her. Sorry I'm such a grumpy old woman, LOL
