Doll tax!

 

I always love the fun and interesting places you take doll photos @tiyama ! The colours in this one are so pleasing, and your doll looks perfectly at home!

 

I bought some Volks wigs recently and one of them came in a box that was really yellowed. The wig smells kinda funky and the cap isn't elasticized. Is this normal for a wig from VolksUSA? The other ones I bought don't have this issue, though this wig is much better quality than the majority of the others.

 

I am a Volks wig addict, hehe! So maybe I can help. I have had some Volks wigs with some "storage" smell, sometimes some yellowing on the cap from styling spray. I typically wash the older ones as the styling spray can transfer and is kind of "greasy." By not elasticized, do you mean that it has a net style cap? Some of the oldest styles have mesh or net wig caps, they are very roomy and fit a little differently on the heads. This seems to be typical of some of the older FCS styles like W-01, W-02 or W-08. However, I have received both wigs with or without mesh style caps. They work well on the older and larger heads (especially ones that have the rubber band head cap types).

 

Hm, it has a net style cap but isn't particularly roomy. The wig itself doesn't seem yellowed but the box has definitely been sitting around for quite a while.

I bought this wig specifically.

I'm disappointed with the wigs I bought from Volks directly. They fit great but... The ones that came with my dolls are awesome! Maybe I just got a bad batch...

EDIT: Sent VolksUSA an email telling them about the wig. Maybe it has something to do with storage at their warehouse. If so, I'd like to let them know!

 

My grail doll is finally home! After 7 years of pining for her, I finally own a VOLKS Charlotte. Thinking of naming her Felicity.

Also, a huge congratulations to @Aiko-chan, @nyaaain, and @Stokiaci on your brand new Lieselotte girls! She is a lovely sculpt (but Charlotte will always be my #1, heh).

 

I managed to get my Lieselotte's eyes out but not her headplate yet. Maybe I'll let that one happen naturally. It feels weird to have been collecting BJDs for this long and removing glued eyes for the first time. Maybe it's because I've put Lieselotte on such a high pedestal for so many years, but my Hina just feels incredibly special to me
I can't even imagine a doll I want more, and I have her! It's hard to even put her away

@NekoNyanMew Congrats on your grail! She really is so beautiful and I love the eyes you put in her. I'm so happy to see another Charlotte!

Have you tried popping her in the freezer? I was digging hot glue out of Charlotte for 2 hours, heh. 5-10 minute increments in the freezer help make it brittle and easy to remove.

Alternatively, I hear a drop of rubbing alcohol helps, too. Just be sure not to damage the faceup, of course.

@NekoNyanMew : Uwaaa Volks should hire you as their photographer! Your Charlotte really shines in your picture... I felt her default photos seemed a little dull in comparison. Congrats on this sweet girl!

Sharing here that I was able to enter for SDGr Hyde! UGH the process for overseas is not easy... and between all the proxy shipping fees and then additional overseas shipping fees I have no doubt he'll cost me over $2k IF I even win him. I also had to pay ~$50 to join Hydeist, but worth it for a shot at him! I started blasting some Laruku in my car on the way to work this morning to help manifest the dream!!!

 

@Dybbuk Thanks! I've also got Midi Williams, but as he has no clothes he had to sit this one out. I count myself fortunate to be able to have the ones I do, when back in the day I never thought I'd even get one. Good luck with the Hyde lottery! It would be so cool if we could see at least of him on the board.

Axie (F38) arrived today. All tan, kipped and sanded smooth with his 20th anniversary peace sign hand. I will pay my tax later in the week after he has his freckles, some hair, the right eyes (16mm are way too big) and generally spam you.
Some incredible beauties in this group right now! I go to this group first thing when hitting DOA for the day.

 

@Cloudedmind : Thanks so much! I'm definitely hoping I can bring him home, but we'll have to see. With 200 dolls total I'm a little wary of getting my hopes up. UGH... Baby Williams is just so cute! They did such a great job still capturing the features of the sculpt in a more childlike way! Gwil looks like such an aristocrat.

Dolly tax time, I need to take some updated pictures of my Charlotte~ She was the first release that I found at a doll show for a really great price at the time. She's been one of my favorite Volks girls they've done. I'm glad so many others have had a chance to bring her home

Hello everyone.

I'm super excited. I'm not new to the hobby but purchased my first Volks FCS by proxy in Japan. I'll be getting a Volks F-26 on an SDgr Boy Body long leg with faceup, clothes, and accessories I can't believe I spent $1,500 most I've ever spent, but I'm happy to have him in a few months.

I've always wanted an FCS but with trying to hurdle through life problems and now Covid...it seemed unlikely. I still want an Omukae ceremony in the future...if they still do them. Lol
