Volks Super Dollfie - SD, SD13, SD16, SD17, SDGr, SDGou & FCS - XXXIII

Sep 12, 2022

    1. I got a Cheerydoll dress set that was listed as for MSD off Dollyteria, but upon arrival today it was most definitely SD sized. Luckily I have a girl it works on, looks like Komori just got herself a new outfit (for the first time in 3 years or so):).

    2. @ShuriTigerH, I think Komori planned it that way, lol! She looks great in that outfit. :3nodding:

    3. Irene (Lucia) and Chiara (F-99) went on a romantic date last Sunday :).

    5. Oh my, so many gorgeous ladies!!!

@dollykrysis Super congrats on Marie! She looks so good in both wigs, what a hard choice! I'm so glad she found her way home to you.

@laquaza Your girls are stunning, so beautifully styled! I hope they had a lovely date!

@ShuriTigerH Komori looks fantastic! What a lovely mistake to find out it fits her instead of MSD, it's like it was made for her! The colouration really looks nice, and so many details in the gown! Great find!

I was playing around swapping wigs and realized Miss Morgan looks nice in wine-coloured wigs. Guess I'll be doing some shopping!

    10. UPS finally delivered my Marie Antoinette after her spending 2 days in purgatory (because the 1st driver blew past my house and labeled the delivery as "Sorry I missed you!" Watched him drive by my house without stopping.)

It's late, so I haven't gotten pictures of her yet, but wow. Handling a resin doll for the first time was an experience. Coming from vinyl, I'll definitely have to get use the more flexible body. I can't say what's normal or not, but I'm going to assume she is strung well without being kicky. Her legs swing back and forth with enough ease, but I think that is normal. Sorry for sounding like a total newbie.

I'm not afraid of having to restring her down the line, but it is something I'll take a pass on for the time being. I also found my answer about VolksUSA and ordering optional parts. There is a piece of paper in English with instructions on how to do so with a deadline around the end of April. Definitely will be getting her flat footed legs and maybe a hand set. I was surprised she came with kip joints installed.

I'm naming her after my much missed grandmother, Henrietta. She refused to go by that name, and told everyone to call her Hank (because she'd punch ya if you called her Henrietta lol). I think it's a cute nickname. She also looks like she would make a beautiful Usagi from Sailor Moon.

@dollykrysis She looks amazing in that pink wig! Would you mind sharing where you got it? ♥

    11. @Deyja We all started somewhere. :) SDGr girls have a lovely number of joints to allow smooth posing but it can be a bit of a change from vinyl. Volks gets the tension on the limited pretty good compared to other companies. I usually interpret 'kicky' as suddenly snapping up. I'm guessing you're referring to how the legs don't stop moving once you stop moving them but will fall towards ground? You right, it is hard to describe.:sweat I think there is no KIPs in the legs though I think you could add them.

I actually just got a Smartdoll recently so it was a bit of a change in the opposite direction.

    12. Ha, yes that is a total change of direction. I had a couple for awhile. Took me a month to get the courage to move her wrist for fear of breaking it!

I think you described the leg swinging right! I see kip joints in the arms but that makes sense if the legs are looser. Her head is ziptied instead of tied. I'm not sure how I can remove her head. Also a surprise that my 8-9" wigs don't fit. Do you have any recommendations on where to get a good 9-10" wig?

    13. The zip tie is volks attempt to make it possible to transition her to flat feet without fully restringing her. The idea is to pull more cord through the zip tie so you have more length to string through the flat fleet. The heel feet stop at the knee so less cord is needed and theoretically this allows you to go back and forth though I’ve not tried it in practice. To take off the head you just need to pull up on the s hook and bring it towards the wider hole in the head - this is easiest to do with a hook tool but can usually be done with fingers or a pipe cleaner.

    14. Ah, that's good to know, thank you! Sorry for all the beginner questions. I do want to get her flat feet eventually. I'm thankful that I have the opportunity to order them. Should I tie a knot in the elastic above the zip tie, or do you think it's okay to leave it as is?

    15. I think it should be fine to leave it as is - even if it slides some over time it’s not going to just slide all at once and your girl fall apart. Untying a knot from the elastic later when you want to put on the flat feet wouldn’t be fun. That being said, putting a knot towards the end of the excess wouldn’t hurt anything if it gives you peace of mind.

    17. @Deyja It's been a long while since I bought 9-10" wigs, years in fact. I've been coasting off the stock I got pre-Covid. My favourite was Cancan-jseries but I'm not clear on whether they will ship to Canada at the moment, US is a maybe. Their wigs have tons of style options and not bad fantasy colours but they are a bit stiff and they use a lot of styling product in their wavy wigs. They also aren't great for more natural looking hair, their blonds and browns look quite flat. Leekworld had been my other default since they had quite a few styles but their colour options have shrunk. But they do have wigs with multiple colours styled together in interesting ways. They also have nice glass eyes. Stay away from their high heels though, they are made of rubber making it impossible for dolls to stand in.
I'm actually on the hunt for a replacement wig for my Elsa since her default Volks looks too plasticy for me. Would have been nice to grab a Monique wig but they also closed and are hard to find online. And their wigs had such fine, flowing hair! Probably will need to commission someone to make it out of mohair or figure it out on my own.

    18. Thank you for the heads up! I've had a Leekeworld wig before (when I owned Pullips and Smart Dolls). They weren't bad, but seemed to run a bit small. It's been years too, here. Not entirely sure what color I want to go for with my Marie. Thanks for the warning about the heels! Eyes...I have a pair of Oscar Doll Eyes that I was hoping to use in my girl, but I think I'd be too afraid to try to remove her glass ones and fiddle with false eyelashes. They are so pretty, though.

    19. I finally repainted my SDGr Elsa! She's a lot cuter and sweeter than I expected!

@aoikoibito Yui is gorgeous! Saki is one of my favourite sculpts, and yours is styled so beautiful, she looks fantastic in her new outfit!
