Volks Super Dollfie - SD, SD13, SD16, SD17, SDGr, SDGou & FCS - XXXIV

I just wish I knew which one to make sure he's different enought for me to bother getting. For now I'll wait to see what the LA Dolpa might have first.

Some outfits I pre-ordered from Melody.C arrived on Monday and holy moly, in 20 something years of being part of this hobby, these are the nicest clothes I think my girls have ever had. and they fit SD10/SD13 bodies perfectly. I also tried it on my SDGr girl and was very pleased, though there's no picture.

The pre-order took about two months to be delivered but it was well worth the wait. 11/10 would recommend.

Not sure were to ask this, sorry if this derails any of the conversations. What are the chances of Volks making more dolls in the Echoes of a Beautiful Banquet line? Most of them are the Shinsengumi boys.

Masamune and Tsunenaga seemed to be popular to be rereleased? But their second releases doesn't seem to be as popular because they came out in 2018 and you can still buy them on their site.

There is a few historical figures from the Heian Era and some in the Sengoku Era as well that I really wanna see Volks do. But if the line are not popular it seems my hope will turn into cope.

 

@RozenMaiden_Girl the latest online newsletter from volks today just talk about the release of a doll from Genji Monogatari series on HTD July this year. If you like Heian era and historical fashion, it's worth a look. (They are still only project name though, I guess additional pic will be post later together with the release of next volks magazine)

 

Oath of the Silver Coin seems to be Volks' perennial money-maker. While I enjoy that line, I also miss Echos of a Beautiful Banquet, and Tokyo Boys, too. Tokyo Boys was the start of my BJD collecting in 2005, but it seems to have seriously tanked 10 years ago. I had to make my own SD17 Isao because I finally realized I wouldn't have one otherwise, so I followed the Volks motto -- "seek creativity"

 

are the dolls from Echoes of a Beautiful Banquet Line usually all boys? I saw the news and was curious.

 

I admit I am also partial to the Tokyo Boys and Oath lines, since they marked my introduction to the hobby. And I do also appreciate the Echoes, but admittedly haven't felt the same level of draw towards them.

@Heartplace they do have Ryo Narasaki, but I don't recall any others. But considering they're all historical characters, and Volks' tradition of focusing more storyline on male dolls, that might limit things.

 

@xxxsaturnxxx yes I saw! I am so hyped. Speculation that it's Genji rerelease and I hope so.

@Heartplace it is mostly boys, but there are some girls. The line focus on real historical people (aside from Genji) and Volks takes inspiration from those people to make a character inspired by them.

@Lyrajean I really want volks to make Oda Nobunaga, Tachibana Ginchiyo, and for them to redo their Yoshitsune doll. But I am lucky enough they made my favorite samurai a doll lol.

 

Sorry to derail the current discussion, but I got my SD Alto yesterday and I put her on an SDGr girl body. I am in love. She’s SO pretty in person.

I'm kind of surprised they haven't made an SD17 Oda Nobunaga, and SDGr Ranmaru. Considering the amount of shipping that happens with the Oath boys, Oda and Ranmaru seem ripe for the picking.

On a side note, does anyone think Volks would ever make a 70cm boy body? While Volks is probably the one company that doesn't need to follow trends to stay afloat it's interesting to think about.

 

Since the Gou body didn't do well, I doubt Volks would try for any taller boys. Their Japanese customers seem mostly cute-girl oriented, with the occasional boy, and even then... *shrug*

 

I think the Gou body was only 66cm to the SD17's 65, so not particularly taller. I remember wishing it was taller anyway. Also, the heads they released on the body probably had something to do with it's reception as well.

 

Oda Nobunaga does seem like such a good fit. I was thinking he should be SDGr but maybe SD17 would be better. Date Masamune was pretty short in real life so I guess thats why they made him SDGr. But I would also love to see Nōhime with Oda Nobunaga.

I also really want a Yasuke doll, but not sure if he is popular enough to get one. (His story has always been really interesting since I learned about him over 10+ years ago but now he seems to be a hot button topic here in the west that I wont get into)

As for 70cm, I am surprised they have not done it yet to be honest. Because SD17 is meant to look like a 17 year old and is 65cm, I assumed 70cm could be like... a 25 year old or even slightly older like 35. But I doubt Volks has much interest in making a sculpt that mature.

 

Ooh they look so cute, thank you for sharing!! I actually ordered the same set among other items for my SDGR but they were out of my first choice of the pink set, as well as the black blouse in the larger size so I went with black dress, cream blouse. ^^;
