1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Volks Super Dollfie ~ SD, SD13, SDGr, SD16, SD17 & FCS - Part V

Jun 15, 2012

    1. I like the SD17's joints as they are, now that they've strengthened those wonky knees!... And I can cope with that slightly over-stringy look of the muscles, because it is terribly sexy even when it doesn't go with the face. ^^

For more stringy-muscled tan-boy spam: :chocoheart:

In a perfect world, I would only ask them to change the elbows back to the first kind they put on SDCutes... where the elbow-cap is external & the arm moves in 3 parts, avoiding the pterodactyl-arm problem. Elbow joints are so tricky, but I swear they got it working best on the first try. ^^ My SDC Arashi is 7 years old, but his elbows still work easier & better than every other doll who's come along since 2005!

    2. I took photo of Iris again after a year has passed LOL. I do not have a SD16 girl body (because I do not like the upper body muscles) so I put her on SDGr girl body. The head is a little too big for it but with the right clothes you can hide the proportion. I noticed she looks a little bit like an older version of Ayase Ami (never noticed this before)

    3. She is beautiful... ;) I agree that with clothings on, it's hard to discern disproportionate bodies. XD And Jenny, can I see the elbow joints, please? I hope it's okay to ask a comparison photo with SD17 to make it still on topic for this thread? :) Thanks so much!!

    4. I love her makeup, wig and outfit!

    5. Which ones, the SDC elbows? Sure, I could seat them together for an elbow-show....

    6. Yes, please. :D I want to know the difference. Thank you! :D

    7. OK... SD17 (Kimo) vs. SDCute (macho man Rowan, an Arashi), and I threw in an SD16 (Adrian, a Yukinojo). SDCute had the first doublejointed elbows, later followed by SD16, then SD17 a few years after that.

SDC can get more angles between fully-bent & fully-extended, and the bent forearm rotates expressively. And you don't have to fiddle with an interior joint & pray that it'll lock right.

But I guess they didn't like the look of the floating elbow on the outside. For SD16, they moved it inside, so it'd look neater, and it's not too hard to operate-- but as many of you may know, SD16 has some of the worst pterodactyl-arms evar (even with KIPS).

For SD17 (& SDGr), they changed the interior joint to a weird u-shaped thing with a lock on the forearm-end. After all these years I'm still not 100% clear where they mean that lock to go. SD17 seems more stable than SD16, but still not as stable/easy as SDC. (IMHO, anyway.)

This shows the inside-view & outside-view of each at the same time...

      And a close-up of SD17 & SDC.

Sorry for all the random spam of boys just plonked onto the couch. :XD:

    8. Thanks so much, Jenny! :3 The SDC elbow looks a lot like Soom's elbows. The nut fits perfectly and cover the elbow's hole. XD

    9. There's no hole to cover -- sorry my closeup isn't close enough! -- that elbow-cap IS an actual joint, it's solid, sort of like a cylinder with that little rounded diamond sculpted on top. But the joint's not recessed, so you don't have to reach inside to manipulate it. The stability problem starts when they try to make the arm look tidier by tucking the joint inside.

Yes, the Mecha Angel's elbows are like that too, now that I look at them. (Not Super Gems, though; shame, those elbows drive me nuts! ;;^^) The SDC Girls had it first in, what, 2004? Arashi was the first SDC Boy in 2005. That elbow design has been around for awhile and I still think it's great. Wish my big boys were so easy to operate.

    10. JennyNemesis - Wow, I didn't realize the elbows varied so so much! Thanks for the run down!

    11. Just wanted to add some Shiratori love to this thread. This girl (or boy) never seems to get much love even though you can purchase her straight from sato all the time. Anyone else have a Shiratori around here?

Tomoe trying for the 60s look.

    12. Thanks for "elbows on parade" Jenny N! :) My first ever ABJD was SDC Kaede, so I actually thought the jointing on her would be used for all Volks dolls. Little did I know! LOL! Anyway, the SDC joints are still my favs and I would love it if the new Gou body came with these elbows. It's little OT for this thread, but I feel the need to give props to the new long-leg Yo boy body too. I find Yo's to be pretty stable posers overall, but my Yo-Isao "Smike" is really rock steady.

On another note, I love the 60's Mod look on your Shiratori "Tomoe" SxB! :love

      Juli DC :)

    13. Yr welcome - It's sorta "everything you ever wanted to know about male SD elbows but were afraid to ask". ^^ Elbow Science is a highly complex field.

(And I agree, julidc - if they put the current YoSD's shoulder-locks into the big dolls, those arm-raised glamor shots would be even easier!)

    14. I am eagerly awaiting the arrival of my SDGou. I am not 100% sold by the look of it...I think it looks funky, but I really wanted to test the functionality of it and try other heads with it...an expensive guinea pig to say the least......but I have a soft spot for Jo.

    15. The shoulder locks should be pretty deep... those arms weigh 3 or 4 times the Yo's! XDDD

    16. Yes, I think one SD16B arm weighs as much as at least half an entire Yo...! ^^

    17. Jenny: The elbow pics are really useful! SDC's elbow joints look awesome! I always had a prob getting SD17 to touch their own face!

Sadistic: I luv that wig on her!! XD

A proper pic of Yukinojo! I hope everyone's arrive soon!! Im in luv with this sculpt's jawline!

    18. Hello beautiful!! :aheartbea :aheartbea

Love those German Expressionist cheekbones. Yukinojo has some of the most wonderful bone-structure in the world. It's a face I can still get caught up staring into, even after all these years....

    19. He'd be the perfect Germany in Hetalia for sure. :3 Do post more, Joey... A lot of people are still waiting, and I hope they won't have to wait too long... >.>

    20. Oh! I can't wait for my Yukinojo! I hope he comes to the USA soon.... Yours is so handsome, it's just too bad he has a smoking habit!
