I like my dolls to not look like any doll I already have; I don’t mind either way if they look similar to me. The doll I’m sculpting, Amara, has a body not dissimilar to mine, but no premade doll on the market really shares my body type anyways. I’ll admit it’s a little disappointing how few dolls that break from the “common” body types on the market (for women dolls these are pretty much slender, chibi, tiny waist with massive hips, “someone put this poor lady on the rack and now she’s weird and stretched”, etc.) But that’s all the more reason to take inspiration and sculpt them!
Nope, not at all. I dislike some parts of my body very much and wouldn't want a doll who has these features. In fact, I think I'm more attracted to dolls with the body shape I would love to achieve for myself.
Most of my dolls are all childlike, so personally I wouldn't want to own one that is my body type. It's fun to see others dolls with a similar body type to mine!
I'm another who only collects child dolls (I have some older looking dolls, but once they have a pronounced bust, I'm not interested), so I've never considered if they have a similar body type to me. Generally, I don't like skinny dolls, and whatever size or age they are I like curved, flowing lines. I would like to see a doll my shape, though. I am plus sized and pear shaped, and I did see an artist roughing out a sculpt like that on their Facebook page (although I can't remember their name now, annoyingly). It was quite refreshing to see, as there are plenty of dolls with exaggeratedly big hips, but few which also have a big stomach and seriously chunky thighs.
I can say with some certainty that no—I don't really care to have one with my body type exactly. I'm pretty average in height and shape, slightly more busty than I prefer...but really—when I'm shelling my OCs/existing characters into bjds—I don't take my body shape into mind at all while doing so. It would be silly for the existing characters (they are what they are) and for my female OCs (although I more so identify as genderfluid/nonbinary myself, although somewhat more feminine leaning), I chose to be very diverse in the body types I gave them when I created them. I went with whatever fit them best—small/large bust, curvy/not curvy, tall/short, etc. Also, I tend to lean a bit more towards male dolls, which don't match my body type at all. For me, I think I prefer things that go outside the familiar proverbial box—as well as diversity. Variety is the spice of life, after all—and it would be rather plain and mundane to have everything be the same shape and/or size.
