Washing your hands before handling your dolls....

Sep 30, 2010

    1. I wash my hand before touching my dolls. I don't want to let my dolls get dirty although i always clean them every 2 week.

    2. When I am doing a faceup, I will wash my hands a lot, to the point where they get dry and hurt but now I purchased some cotton gloves to wear so I can get around that. I should have been doing that all along, the faceups turn up much better.

    3. I regularly wash my hands during the day but not another time before I touch my dolls, it's not like my dolls were all dirty^^

    4. No way!!! I definitely wash them before handling a doll if they're dirty or greasy (same as everyone else has said). But I'm handling them constantly! So that would be way too annoying and deter me from interacting with them. But I do try to hold them around clothed areas to minimize issues.

    5. I always wash my hands and use alcohol before I handle dolls. I wanna minimize the amount of dirt that gets on them and prevent staining since I usually have a lot of ink and stuff on my hands at the end of the day.

    6. No! My dolls are made to use, not to just sit there. I can touch, you can touch, they are supposused to live WITH me. If I should wash every time, we could not do so much photograpfy - and thats the thin I love to to with them: Make them see the world and make the world see them. And then I smiles. Even if I have "dirty" hands.

    7. If my hands feel like there is something on them, if I have been petting animals or eating then I wash my hands. Otherwise I just use a Magic Eraser on my dolls every so often. The only exception is my sister's doll. If I am going to be touching her then I always wash my hands before and after. After all, I would feel super bad if I got a doll that I've been trusted to take the best care of dirty!

    8. I do A LOT of artsy things that involve getting hands dirty (or just plain messy in general). So if I want to handle my dolls for a bit, I wash my hands very well, and change out of my art clothes so I don't get anything on them.

I also wash my hands after eating, but that is a habit mostly. I've learned quickly how to pick up and handle my doll when he first arrived, and I do not touch my floating head too often. If I do, it's with clean hands and I avoid the face.

    9. I just wash my hands if I had a dinner or some contact with grease o_o
Or when I'm lazy, I just touch/hold them in their clothes and try to not touch in their "skin".
And in Meetups, I always wash my hands. It's funny, but after we eat sweet things in the meetup, I think I'm the only one who actually wash the hands before touching the dolls again >_<
(Yes, I'm a creep who watch if other do x'D)

    10. I have dry skin problems so if I wash my hands too often it could really dry out my skin. (I go through a lot of lotion specifically made for dry skin.) Do I avoid my doll's heads? Only ones with face ups. Blanks? Poke away! I don't really bother because it was my money why should I freak out about it and not able to enjoy them?

    11. I almost giggled a little.
when I open a box, a new doll, second hand or not... I wash the doll!!
maybe not the head if I had requested a factory faceup, but if everything is blank, as soon as it arrives at home it flies directly in the faucet, under warm water and soft soap.

I try to take care of the faceupped heads, particularly if it wasn't me the one who did the faceup (= can't re-do the same) or if I spent tons of hours doing something particularly intricate, but not as much as feeling I've to avoid enjoying the doll.
I love taking them out for photoshooting, so when it happens it's obvious that, particularly in nature, they can get dirty and might need cleaning and new body blushing. it's part of the fun too.

      this, for my dolls.
for other persons' dolls... I just try to avoid touching them at all, if I'm not invited to :) and if my hands are clearly dirty (food particularly) I just try to avoid at all ^^

    12. I wash my hands if I have done something that I feel warrants washing them before handling. Such as eating, sweat or similar things.

But otherwise no. Since I am a clean person that washes my hands often. So if I don't feel dirty or know that I am, no I don't wash before handling my dolls. Maybe, I should.. ;D

    13. Yes, I always do wash my hands before handling them! it's just a rule!

I generally fixated on personal purity and cleanliness in the house)

    14. If I've done something that makes me feel like my hands are dirty, I'll wash them before handling the resin. This usually applies to petting/playing with my dog, anything having to do with handling ANY kind of food, painting, etc. I do wash them constantly during faceups, though (or I did, until I started using cotton gloves while doing faceups).

    15. yep, I wash my hands and even then I find i have to wash theirs because I am always
      touching their hands

    16. I usually wash my hands a bit before handling any kind of dolls, on-topic or off-topic, mainly because sometimes my hands get sweaty and I don't want grease or something to get on their resin

    17. normally I don't, but I wont handle my dolls until I wash my hands if I've been eating with my hands, especially if it's a greaser food. I'm not gonna worry too much about washing my hands when handling my dolls otherwise. I would either ruin my hands by washing them way too much or I would hardly get to play with my dolls. I just make sure to give them annual baths and make sure they're nice and clean :)

    18. my hands get sweaty a lot so I do wash them before holding her or anything, I don't want to make my dolls all "icky"

    19. When I first got my BJD, I didn't let my(or other people's) hands get anywhere NEAR him until I went to wash them, even if they weren't really that dirty. I didn't want to risk him getting dirty. Now that I've had him for a little while I've kind of relaxed some. Now I only wash my hands before handling if my hands are sweaty or visibly dirty.
... I still make other people wash their hands before handling him though, even if they look fairly clean, just because I don't know where their hands have been.

    20. I'm one of those people who washes their hands before and after eating anyway, and whenever else I feel like it (if I touch anything in the kitchen more suspect than my own water glass, and definitely if I've touched the dog), so generally my hands are pretty clean. I don't think about it too much when handling my dolls, but then again, I am always careful not to touch faces and so forth. I wipe my dollies down with a damp rag every few months and take them apart for more thorough cleaning probably twice a year. I'm much, much more cautious when it comes to other peoples' dolls, though. I definitely won't hold someone else's dollie if I think my hands might not be clean!
