Washing your hands before handling your dolls....

Sep 30, 2010

    1. My hands are usually clean, but if my hands are unclean, of course I am going to wash my hands. :sweat
If they're not really dirty or anything though, then it seems kind of a bit too much to obsessively wash my hands.

    2. I do try to before handling my dolls. Sometimes i don't because they don't feel dirty or have been relatively clean for most of the day, or I just forget. However usually I get something on my hands during the day so i like to wash them just to be sure.

Plus i have very oily skin and oils are bad for resin. So even if you think your skin isn't super oily in particular, you should still wash them.

    3. I'm not that bothered for my smaller dolls, but I think with SD's I'll be careful and make sure that my hands are clean and dry. It's less that the SD's cost much more, but more that I'll be transporting my Tiny's more and I will not always be able to be careful. But if others want to touch, I will be sure to carry hand sanitizer around with me all the time! :)

    4. If I'm not sure if my hands are clean, than i wash them )

    5. I won't say I'm a germ-a-phobe but I do like it when my hands are clean... You can tell when your hands are dirty because they just feel clammy and gross. Even if that clamminess doesn't rub off on resin I'd still rather at least rinse my hands.

    6. :aheartbeaI also be sure that I do not have nailpolish on. Black nailpolish gives a black stain on your doll....( I happen to me once! and I was very carefull) . So beware!

    7. If I'm going to be touching a doll directly a lot (like when changing clothes or restringing) I always wash my hands first. If I'm just going to be posing a clothed doll or get the urge hold or carry one around the house I'll just rinse my hands first if they seem dirty; if they don't I usually won't bother.

    8. I'm pretty obsessive about washing my hands. Anytime I walk near a water source, I automatically wash my hands. It's very rare for me to touch the resin on my dolls (except their hands), but I always wash my hands before changing their clothes. If I'm just touching their clothing, I only wash my hands if I've been eating. Of course, I wash my hands after eating anyway...

    9. I feel like I should wash my hands more before handling them. xwx; I make sure they're clean, but I really should start washing my hands first, or at least using hand sanitizer. <w<;

    10. I do wash my hands part way through a box opening, mostly because the shipping box can be a little dirty and my hands usually get a little sweaty with excitement! :) If the doll is brand-squeaking new then I am generally more careful like this at least until they are msc'd, then I relax a little. That being said, I would never go handle my doll just after eating anything with my hands (crisps, chips, fruit etc) without washing again first.

    11. Most of the time I have washed my hands enough anyway... so I don't always wash my hands first. If my hands are at all dirty or sweaty I will however.

When I'm spending a lot of time touching their skin while I do their faceups and blushing I wash my hands a lot.

    12. I don't remember to wash my hands before touching my dolls, usually. BUT I think it's a good idea. Washing hands more often is probably good even without dolls!

Even the cleanest person will pick up germs and dirt on their hands. And there are the natural oils and skin that comes off everyone's hands. 'Might as well keep up good habits and wash hands before touching anything that goes in your mouth or that you want to be kept free from grease, germs and dirt!

    13. Hm for me it rather depends on what I have touched before touching them. If it's like clay or something sweet like cookies and such, then I do wash my hands. If it's something like just paper then I won't. I mostly only touch my boy(at my place that is then) after taking a shower. When I'm at friends, I'm not touching a lot, so I find it not needed. But.. it sounds good to wash your hands all the time before touching them. Might do it...

    14. From some previous disasters at work, I'm paranoid about getting pen ink on anything I'm working with. I don't wash like someone OC might be compelled to do, but I do look at my hands before I touch things, and if I'm handling my dolls bare resin or hair or so forth, I wash to get the natural oils off my hands first. But I'm mostly careful not to get ink on them or their things.

    15. I tend to wash my hands whenever they feel 'dirty' anyway, so my hands are usually clean whenever I decide to touch my doll. An effective nonissue!

    16. Ha. No. Not unless I'm doing a faceup or will be manhandling them with restringing. My dolls wear clothes that cover most of their bodies, and I am just so not finicky with my dolls. I drag them over hill and dale anyway so this doesn't matter to me. I would only wash my hands before touching them in instances where I would wash my hands anyway. I want to have fun with my dolls and having to worry about something like that takes some of the fun out.

Then again, my dolls are not super expensive either... I might feel different if I had an LE Volks.. but eh.. probably not.

    17. I live under very hot climate, so my hands tend to get sweaty. I have a box of baby wipes in my doll room which I use prior to handling them. I feel better about handling them with fresh clean hands.

    18. If my hands are dirty then I do I also do if I've eaten or gone to the bathroom but I alway wash my hand after that. If not I just pick them up and play with them. I don't wear nail polish so I don't have to worry about that.

    19. I do if I have food or any type of creams or oils on hands that could be absorbed in anyway or that might discolor the doll. But in general I can't see that it would be necessary.

    20. I wash my hands a lot anyway, so usually if I've just eaten or touched something with a substance on it I'll wash them before picking up or handling my girls.
