Washing your hands before handling your dolls....

Sep 30, 2010

    1. Really? I never do >>; And we play a lot. They do get dirty over time but bath days are just as enjoyable : ) ...well they get sponge baths. And none of them ever got any damage from it, default face ups and everything is just fine ^^

    2. I do wash my hands, but not obsessively.
I know if I've been playing with the dog, or petting the cat, or cooking or eating, there is going to be some grime or grease on my hands, so the same way I don't touch my fabrics with dirty hands, I tend not to touch my dolls with dirty hands as well. Most of the time that I am "playing" with the dolls I am either brushing out their hair and styling it, dressing them, or making them clothes. So it makes sense :D
I wouldn't want to finish a quilt or a doll dress, have them turn out perfect, and then realize there's dirty or worse, grease on them, which I might not be able to remove after the fact, so I spare myself the "dirty surprises" by taking a bit of special care before hand :D

The dolls do get dirty over time, sitting around the sewing table being fitted and draped and all that, but as lindaBliss said, bath times are fun as well :D so I'm not adverse to doing a whole bath time just because there's a little dirt on a leg or an arm.

    3. When I've finished cooking, or when I come back from sculpt class or when I generally have VERY DIRTY HANDS, I'll wash them immediatly, even if I don't touch my dollie afterwards, hahaha! I think I wash my hands...at least 3-6 times a day? So I don't think they are THAT dirty to have to wash them specifically for playing with my doll ^ ^;;;

    4. speaking of which....
I've read somewhere that one should wear a cotton glove when handling dolls.
      I've been wondering about that...

    5. at the first I used to wash my hands always before playing with my doll, but now I usually wash them just if they're dirty.

    6. ^ I agree with Micchan, I do that too, but now I'm getting a second doll, I think I'll wash my hands before handling her...

    7. I only wash my hads before handling my dolls if I feel they are actually dirty etc. If I washed my hands every time I touched my dolls I'd be washing them all the time :| Also I keep my hands relatively clean anyway so I don't feel the need to wash them always before handling the dolls, besides as someone said already; bath days :)

    8. Since my hands tend to get a little sweaty, I wash then every time before handling my dolls.

    9. I'm very careful with my dolls, I do not only wash my hands before touching them but also my face, teeth and I clean my room before taking them out of their boxes xD why? well, I tend to kiss their heads and I am just a neat freak, I want them to be in a clean enviroment if I want them to remain clean.

This is probably the reason why I always feel tired when I do photoshoots. I need to take one day only for them since I have 7 BJDs and after making sure everything (including myself) is clean, I change their clothes one at a time and take pictures, by the end of the day I feel like a ran the marathon or something lol

    10. I used to wash my hands whenever I handled my dolls and now I am more lax about it.

    11. I definitely prefer washing my hands first…I feel terrible getting any oil or smudges on my doll.

    12. I'm a bit OCD when it comes to handling my dolls and their belongings. I always make sure I wash my hands and thoroughly dry them too.

    13. Me too! I only have eyes (as I am waiting for my boy & his things to come home) and I ALWAYS wash my hands before taking the eyes out to admire them.XD

    14. TOT Aurgh I am guilty as charged on this. I always wash my hands and make sure my clothes are clean too. Sometimes I even wash twice just to make sure I didn't miss anything especially if what I am about to handle are expensive clothings. @_@ Anyway I must say I am quite obsessive on this washing hands and thoroughly drying them thing. I even demand my husband to wash his hands when I tried to make him help me restring the doll (though that failed horribly :P I ended up just doing it myself as he has like 0 patience when it comes to helping me with fidgety things).

    15. Being new to the hobby, I am so paranoid about messing my doll up, that I will probably wash my hands every time, at least for a while, and certainly when I first get her (still saving up). I would rather take the few seconds it takes to wash my hands, then have the gunk-build-up accumulate faster. I want to keep her as nice as possible.

    16. Yes, I usually wash my hands before handling dolls, unless I recently washed or know that I am relatively clean.
I don't even like handling the dolls if I haven't showered in a while. If I don't feel clean, I don't handle them much.

    17. I'll wash my hands before handling my doll if I think there is anything on my hands that will cause smudges or stains on it.

    18. I don't. Unless my hands are REALLY dirty, I don't see the point. I don't really do anything to get my hands filthy in the first place and I just couldn't stand being so OCD or paranoid about touching my dolls. If I felt the need to scrub my hands, take a shower, clean house, change clothes, put the dog up, etc before handling my dolls...I'd NEVER be able to enjoy them. I never stick my dolls in their boxes, they stay out all the time and I cuddle them, hug them, take them out and about. My dolls are to be played with.

That being said, if I'm really dirty/sweaty/otherwise gross, of course I will! There's nothing worse than watching grubby hands grab a doll. I've had a couple of times when I just wanted to scream at people to wash their nasty hands. One was at a dollmeet at a coffee shop and a young child ran up out of nowhere, picking her nose, then grabbed my Doll Chateau Faramita....he mom was completely ignoring her, thinking it was "cute" that she was playing with our dolls.....luckily, another lady at the meet got my lil guy back before I totally snapped (she was MUCH better with children than I am...)

The other time, I about had a heart attack when my coworker didn't wash his hands after fixing a motor and getting covered in grease (his hands were literally BLACK.) then grabbed Claire by the face. Until that day, I'd NEVER had an issue with coworkers and my dolls. I work in the office part of a shop and keep it very clean in here. My coworkers are guys that don't mind my quirkiness and usually are outside or in the shop, not my office, and have never paid much attention to my boys sitting on my desk....I guess my girl was just too tempting. (BTW, I gave her a new faceup and she's perfectly fine now!)

    19. Most of the time I will wash my hands before handling my dolls, particularly if I am going to change their clothes and handle their wigs. I don't wash my hands every time I handle my dolls, but I like to make sure they are reasonably clean.

    20. I don't wash my hand ever time I decide I want to play with my dolls. However like a lot of people if I have been cooking, cleaning, playing with pets, Or answering the call of nature I do wash my hands before touching them of course I would wash my hands anyway.
