It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Ways of getting your boyfriend into BJDs?

Mar 19, 2006

    1. My boyfriend is slowly warming up to them.
I make sure that when he comes over, my babes are out in the open. I haven't done anything really too drastic... Like show him Eun's belly ring, but I do let my boyfriend know how much I care about my guys...
I also keep him really up-to-date... Like, letting him know that I have a girl on the way, and mentioning that I plan on doing this and this to Eun or Sundae.
I think the more he's around them, the more he understands...
      I don't have anything better to spend my money on. My closet is full of clothes... ^w^;;;
Although he does think it's a waste of money, he cares enough about me to not put me down about it~

    2. The camera! My boyfriend is a photographer and was so suprised to see how deliriously happy I was when my boys arrived, that he sweetly took pictures of them while I was at work so that he could suprise me with them when I got home :)

    3. Only if they're interested in it. My significant other has this, "They're gonna kill me in the night..." attitude. Yet, though he doesn't admit it, he seems to enjoy handling one of my dolls at a gathering. I let him handle Fujiko (a R and D Angel, but I still take her to gatherings). Though it's my doll, I let him have some rights. lol

    4. Either they'll come around, or they won't - this is pretty dependant on the person/situation, like so much doll-related stuff.

My boyfriend was adamantly against me buying a doll, but he gave in when I made it clear how much I wanted one (and it helped that my friend gave him a talking too as well :p). He even donated a fourth of the cost, which was really nice, considering he didn't like the idea at all. This was for Adriel (my Yder), and he never really warmed up to him.

But! Since getting the doll I've done all of his faceups, and have been slowly preparing to make clothes and stuff. I've talked to him about designing costumes. He's an artist, and customization is something he understands. Now that he realizes how much you can do with these dolls, he's softened up a little, and has even expressed interest in making costume designs of his own for me to use.

I think you just have to find something that your bf can relate to if you want him to warm up to the hobby. It IS expensive, and it can seem crazy to a person who isn't into it. You have to translate your interest in a way he can understand.

Most people who care for you, if they know something is important to you, will not make an issue.

      Nowadays - now that I have two - he plays with them sometimes. I'll leave the room and come back to find my dolls suddenly making out, or something. Boys. What can you do. XD;

    5. My boyfriend is interested in pretty much everything I do, so he's generally interested in BJDs and in Samana, but I don't think he'd ever get one himself, since he thinks they're for girls only. :sweat

    6. So I didn't give this thread much thought, my husband always "tolerated" the hobby because he is a hobbyist himself. I have always asked him to help me (because I am lame) with stuff like stringing and putting eyes in because he is just more patient than I am. Yesterday I painted one head, and he helped me paint and restring two of mine. Then, much to my surprise, he asked if he could paint one of the heads. So at this very moment, he is prepping my Argeia head, last night we looked at different Notdoll lady pictures so he could see how others have been done. Hmm...

    7. My boyfriend doesn't really touch them and doesn't really show a lot of interest in them. BUT he does know how important they are to me and also notices that they do appear to have personalities of their own.

My bf does have a interest in angels though so I have been considering developing an angel character doll for him (I know that would have him interested).

    8. Some boys just refuse. I don't have a doll YET, but I have two friends who are very into the hobby, and my boyfriend thinks that the dolls are the devil. He and his best friend are convinced that all four BJDs are trying to kill them! X3 He's already- jokingly- threatened that if I ever got one, it would be over. However, he knows I'm getting very into the hobby myself- and that he can't stop me- so I think that, given time, he'll accept that. But he'll never really like them for himself!

Bottom line: Some guys just won't change their minds on disliking the dolls, but they WILL accept that you love em and are going to love them no matter what! ^____^

    9. My fiance has absoluluely no interest. If he knows a picture has a doll in it, he doesn't even want to see the picture (except for the one where I happened to snap as the kitten attacked my doll).

I really see no way to make him interested.

      Carolyn

    10. Get a doll with big boobs;)

    11. Oh another idea. My bf loves kitties, I know he has seen and remembers Nikki-Chan by Petworks...I just have to get myself a kitty doll. I am sure that will endear him to my dolls a little more.

    12. My boyfriend wasn't too happy about them at first, but now he's quite fond of them, to the point that he gives me puppy eyes when I talk about selling any of them =___=

    13. When I was hunting the perfect doll, I showed my boyfriend the Volks dolls, and he remarked 'they are pretty....woah...and pretty expensive...' Then after I ordered and recieved Akai, (he had went to basic training over the summer) He was all 'What is that on your desk...Awww she's so pretty!.... wait where are her boobs?' Then I "slowly" explained Akai was male (ie, flashing him XD) And he stared at me for the longest time >P
But later on, I showed him DoD, and he saw the 4 guardian dolls, and since he's a martial arts freak, he was fanboying over them, and telling me if he had one, he's make it look like his favorite videogame characters and such. Then he helped me re-string Akai, and kept playing with his hair and feet. And he is considering getting one, but he thinks when he moves out of his grandparents, it'll be better for him to get one >w<

    14. Show them that the girls have realistic boobs? XD

    15. I just bought tickets to go to the Nascar race...thats worth a doll or two!

    16. My Boyfriend says he would only by a black doll as pretty as me. I showed him Cocori and he said "No way, not her she is curvy enough." He's really picky he said that he would help me buy a doll. So I guess that's a start/;)

    17. I don't have a boyfriend (has in someone I am dating) right now but I have a lot of guy friends.
One of them goes to my school at first, he hated them and was scared of my doll Kerri (at the time she was a AR Fair Elly). But when ever I get time I would be on DoA. I would point out dolls that I thought he would like and made passing comments. We would talk about the photography.
I didn't push him into it. After awhile I started talking about my freelance work and how that was going to get me a new body for Kerri. So now, we another reason to talk to dolls.
Now, he willing to go to a doll meetup with me and I would be ok with getting a BJD just not a SD sized one.

    18. Hee hee....my husband has a real thing for Oriental women so it was easy....he loves Mika (CH St Mina) as much as I do...especially in black underwear!

    19. My partner (who is genderqueer - biologically male but prefers to be referred to with female name and pronouns) loves Artemis and Maaya, and happily carried Maaya around Londom Expo, unphased by girls going up to her and saying how cute her 'dollfie' was.

However, she doesn't think she would cope well with a BJD of her own, but if she were rich she would collect them. XD

When I get my Minimee heads, I am considering giving one to her with a body. She expressed interest in this, but knows she most likely wouldn't be able to get wigs, clothes and such for it. So I may do that for her, and leave the doll on her care.

Though we agree that the fact that the doll will look like me makes her the creepiest person ever. XD

    20. Awww.. thats so cute Darky! I love that picture! I wish I canget my fiance to pose with any of my dollies.. *wave fist* one day I am going to make up do it! My fiance thinks my entire doll collection is creepy ( I have collectors barbie, Blythe and mini Blythes <-- those scare him the most because of their changing eyes, and other anitque dolls) My dollfie = Money to him. So instead of saying.. ohh this cost X amount of dollars, he would say.. this and this costs 1/2 or 1/3 of one of your dollfies.. lol! its so funny. He doens't like dolls or dollfies and is confused why i love them so much. But he does respect and love me for me and doesn't mind them all much.. as long as I have enough money to pay for other things.. since I have a bad habbit on saving... his there to help me! <3 He is very sweet.. yet I really wish one day he will be a dollfie collector himself one day.. *O* but I doubt that will ever happen T^T
