Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. What are your opinions on layaway?

Aug 11, 2012

    1. i owe lay away the 5 dolls i currently own, plus a floating head and another incoming doll currently being paid using that same method... :D i DON'T KNOW WHAT I"D DO WITHOUT IT! :? would probably be impossible for me to keep up this hobby if it weren't thanks to that. so...again THANK GOD FOR LAY AWAY!!! <3

    2. It depends on the seller, although personally all the times I've done layaway I've hated it. Always worrying if your payments went through. It's too nerve wracking. I much prefer paying all at once.

    3. Layaway= LOVE

All the times I've done layaway, it's been wonderful. I have done Lawaway with Soom and Impldoll. Each time it was great. It was the only way I could afford some of my dolls, mainly, my Soom Monthly Dolls. >< Yes I have a problem..

Anyway, layaway through a reputable company is awsome as some on here have said.

    4. I love layaway. It makes it easier for me to get the dolls I want.

    5. I've only so far done layaway for a Doll Leaves Noir head I was purchasing privately secondhand, and with school I couldn't afford the head all at once. She was nice enough to give me 3 months to pay it, and I would recommend it to some who just don't have all the money off hand.

That being said, I agree with one of the earlier posts that it is easy to fall into the trap of having too many layaways at once....I haven't had that happen but I know it could.

My grail is a normal skin Chalco, and I know the only way I can afford him second hand is if I had layaway...so that's why it's important to me. Especially with limited dolls from the company too!

    6. It's a nice service for people who can't afford a doll with one payment or budget per time is limited. But have to be very careful of using this service because it can make people addict to buy more and more without seeing the real sum on the bill and make us to think that can definitely pay off 'till the end.

    7. I never did layaway, however, i am positiv about this payment method. Sometimes you just dont have the money at the moment but dont want to miss the chance to buy a certai doll. I am happy that some doll companies have this option as well.

    8. I love layaways! I think they're really useful if you have a budget where you can't pay like $300+ right away. They're also helpful if you want to take advantage of an event because it cuts down how much you'd have to pay per month, in my opinion.
I also think that people need to be cautious of layaways, you have to remember to budget and make sure you have that definite amount every month so that they can't take away your order. You also have to be careful if you're juggling multiple layaways, because money adds up fast!
But I think that they're an important part of this hobby for many people!

    9. I think layaway is great! It's like a savings plan you have to stick to! Also, I know that companies like MintOnCard will order your doll while it is on layaway, so you can pay for it while you wait, so it gives you something to do during that long period of, you know, waiting. However, layaway does require some responsibility since missing payments is a no-no. That's why only do layaway if you can keep up with the payments. What I did is would pay for my layaway payment for the month and then immediately put next months payment into savings. Also, before putting my doll on layaway, I sat down and looked at my finances to ensure that I would, in fact, have the money each month, as well as some sort of back-up if worse comes to worse.

    10. I think layaway is a fantastic idea. I need to do it more! :D

    11. There are a lot of more expensive things that I wouldn't be able to get without layaway. This hobby is pricey by nature, so I'm glad that companies offer it.

    12. At first I liked layway, because it gives you the opportunity not to pay all the amount at once, and you can afford a more expensive doll, than usual.
But then I realised that having one layaway often ends up with several layaways. Layaway creates an illusion that you have more money, than you really do. And the financial situation may change in a month or two, then the layaway will no longer be so cool.

So I still think that layaway is a good option for people, who are better with money controlling than me.
But for myself I prefer saving and then fullpay option.

    13. Layaways are really the only way I could have purchased my last 3 dolls. Well - that's a lie. I had the money to buy them outright but I like having money for emergencies so I saved the money and just put the doll payments in my budget. I think it's taught me a lot more about responsibility and planning. I'd much rather have my money sitting in a bank earning interest rather than paying off a doll I won't see in 6-10 months. The way I do it - if I'm having a tough month and don't have the money there is money in my bank to make the payment.

    14. No problems on layaway. I like to pay for my dolls all at one time so layaway is not for me. But when I sell stuff, I do not mind giving layaway as an option. I will say there is a 10% nonrefundable deposit so if I get a flaker after 2 months I still get a little something out of it for my time wasted.

    15. I think layaway is good if you have self control. Like mentioned before, layaway is a slippery slope. It makes you feel like you have more than you do, kinda like a credit card without interest. I prefer to pay in full but I'll never spend everything I have at once. I like to stash some away for emergencies :)

    16. I LOVE layaways - I'd not have the dolls I do w/o it. I've done layaways w/MP purchased dolls as well as company dolls. I am very bad about saving up then finding that I NEED to spend that money somewhere.
But w/a layaway, I know that I have to pay it - it's like a bill for me. I can plan my monthly budgets around the layaway.

    17. I think it's very interesting to hear people say that layaways are good for those with money control. I've always thought the exact opposite. Having money control would be saving up to buy the item, rather than buy something that you do not have the money for (which is what layaway essentially is).

I've both done layaways with sales and am in a layaway for a body atm as well, so I don't see them as bad. It's mixed feelings I guess.

    18. I love layaway, without it I wouldn't have most of my dolls now. It helps me save and it cuts waiting when you pre-order a doll because by the time I'm done paying off my doll its ready to be shipped to me.

    19. I think layaway is a wonderful option, so long as the buyer is dedicated and the seller has clear guidelines.

    20. I love it
because everybody can get a chance to have his/her dream doll
