1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

What are your opinions on layaway?

Aug 11, 2012

    1. I liked the idea that layaway could make a wait (providing the company had longer waiting times) seem less of a wait, and also for expensive or limited dolls. However, I tried a four month layaway on my first doll, but ended it early after a month of being anxious about outstanding money >_<

    2. Its the only way I can buy in bulk. Haha.

    3. I use layaway for many, many things, so I think I'm going to be using layaway for dolls a lot.
      It hurts the paycheck less.

    4. I think layaway it is for limited doll only...

    5. Layeway is a very good thing for some peoples. When you haven't the possibility of paid all the price. People dreaming about having a bjd due to the high price could be have a chance to have one.

    6. To be honest, I can't understand why anyone would be against layaway. If you use it, of course you like it. If you don't, it doesn't affect you.

    7. I haven't been able to use it yet but I'm really glad the option is available. Personally I'd only use it for limiteds, I'd rather be able to pay off a doll all at once but having over $500 on hand just isn't likely for me

    8. Super helpful! It's enable me to get the doll that I want without hurting my wallet at once XD

    9. I think it's great for buying limited edition dolls, especially. Those that you can't afford right now, but can slowly pay installments for it. That way, you won't have to miss out on the sculpts you love and regret it. The next doll I'm getting will definitely be done through layaway, both for the sake of my wallet and to ease my family into the idea of BJDs :XD:

    10. Layaway is a very good option especially you don't have a solid chunck to money sitting here...but I like to pay off my dolls all at once because I hate to wait xD

    11. Layaways are heaven sent! Especially for limited bjds because they're usually quite expensive and well...limited...and some people just don't have all that money sitting around. I'm doing 3 layaways right now (all limiteds) and I'm so grateful the company's offering it.

    12. I swear by layaways. Especially with companies like DZ where the wait is months and months...being able to pay bit by bit is such a relief, and it makes the time go by faster (also ensures that I don't miss events, even if I don't have everything saved at that moment).

    13. I couldn't buy without layaway...

    14. One thing I've noticed lately is that lay-a-way times are getting shorter and shorter. It used to be I could get one and I could take a couple of months to pay off something. Not so much now, not unless the doll is a very, very expensive doll. Now people seem to want much bigger deposits and it has to be done in a couple of weeks or a month at the outside. It really limits my ability to buy. I end up passing up just about everything, which is great for my wallet, but not so good for my dolls. I really need one last body but finding one hasn't been easy because of lay-a-way terms...

    15. I have never done a layaway and I can't see myself ever do one for a non-essential, expensive purchase such as a doll. I just wouldn't be comfortable with it. Perhaps I'm lucky to have never fallen for a limited or soon to be discontinued doll.

That said, I am glad that option is out there :)

    16. If I have the money and the doll is in stock then buying in full is great. If I happen to not have all the money set aside when a sale is on (which happens most of the time) layaway is a great option. In particular because some places start casting the doll when you make your second payment so the doll will ship right after you finish paying. If you pay in full you still have to wait for the casting period. With layaway you stretch your payment out and your wallet is in less pain.

    17. I prefer not to buy anything I can't pay for but I think layaway are great for limited edition.

    18. I have often used layaway on second hand dolls but I am pretty inpatient so anymore than like a 6 week layaway is too long for me. When I bought my minifee Rin I originally had a 6 week layaway and I wanted her home so badly I set to work and raised enough money to pay for her in full on the 2nd payment. Needless to say I was pretty pleased with myself. Anyways Layaways are great if you are short on money and really want that doll, but I prefer just paying for it.

    19. I think it's a great option so all your money isn't tied up in a doll you might not have for months anyway!

    20. If it weren't for layaways, I would probably only own one doll! As long as you have a steady income, there's no reason to fear not being able to pay it off. Having a doll on layaway also makes the wait easier, as you're actively working towards owning the doll. Personally, I use layaways to buy time between refund checks, then pay off the doll, ha ha.
