1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

What are your opinions on layaway?

Aug 11, 2012

    1. I prefer to pay in full. Layaway is great and all, but it makes me feel uncomfortable... what if something unexpected happens (shit happens) and I can't make a payment. I guess I would only do layaway if I had the money in full, and then why bother if you can pay in full.

    2. Layaway is the best

    3. I'd rather pay in full. Layaways will probably just make the wait much more painful and unbearable; the 2 months waiting time is really long for me me. If I can't afford the doll right now, I'd rather save up for it first then pay in full when I have the funds. It's no different from layaway for me.

Plus, I think paying little by little via layaway will probably make me more prone to doll purchases on a whim because they're less straining on the wallet. I'll always spend more time considering the purchase because they're not cheap, so splitting the payments up will just lessen the effect since you're not paying everything upfront.

    4. I've never used layaway since I bought my first doll all at once, but I would really really love to use layaway if I can't afford all of it at once c:

    5. Layaway is very good choice for me, I'm not good with save up large amount of money so layaway can help me with this.

    6. There is pro and cons to layaway. I bought dolls in full and on layaway. Buying a doll in full definitely makes the wait more bearable. But sometimes you have no other choice and you feel a little in debts but then at some point you will get there and received the most beautiful doll you have been waiting for. Layaways make things possible.

    7. Layaway a have saved my hiney more than enough times in the past, and while I get anxious during the wait time it also gives me a chance to plan more for the doll. I personally love them, even if it's nerve wracking sometimes!

    8. I have never used a lay-away, I prefer to gather all the money first and make a payment in full when it is possible.
Mostly for the reasons that were mentioned before, making the long wait even longer, maybe something happens and I can't pay... too stressing for me.

I would only use lay-away in situations like a limited doll if I haven't got the money in the moment, I think it is a great solution in those events!

    9. The wait isn't always longer with a layaway, depending on how it's structured and who it's through. I'm waiting on a doll right now who I ordered on layaway (needed to move fast before the sculpt was discontinued--and it wasn't a popular one, so finding it secondhand later is very unlikely); he's fully paid off, but has yet to arrive with the dealer, so whether I'd paid up front or done a shorter layaway, I'd still be waiting now.

On the other hand, I ordered up a limited doll via a local GO that was done through layaway (I did pay in full, but not everyone participating could), and that order shipped about a week after being paid off, and within a few days of the other order the organizer had done (same doll, but paid in full, for herself).

    10. It's nice that there's an option for those who need it. I never do layaways myself though, since I prefer not cluttering up my inbox/bank transactions history/tasks list/pending payments' list.

    11. I'm very glad layaway is an option. I haven't used it yet, but it should stop me from buying too many dolls too quickly!

    12. Never tried layaway either. Honestly, I don't have an opinion on layaway. I'm indifferent.

    13. I've never used layaway. I'm the kind of person who won't buy something unless I already have the money for it, which is why I don't even own a credit card. I like saving up my money first before I buy something expensive like a bjd. That way it sort of feels like I've worked hard to earn it. :)

Just my personal feelings on the matter though. I can completely understand why many people like to use layaway. Especially for limited dolls that they might miss out on otherwise.

    14. I've never used layaway either. I'm a fan of instant gratification (not easy to come by in this hobby) so I buy secondhand or in stock dolls with full payment up front. ^^

    15. I like layaway for dolls who are only on pre-order for a short time (ie; Cerisedolls).
I'm also not that great at saving up money so it's a good option for me. *_*

    16. Layaway is the only way for me, i need to spread them over the longest amount of time i can manage :XD:

    17. Without layaway I wouldn't have any chance of getting a doll, so I love layaway!

    18. 95% of the time I pay in full. I do think it's an awesome option to have, though.

    19. I don't think I would buy a doll on layaway. If I was going to I think I would just buy a doll on a credit card. At least then I would get the doll sooner, but again a doll isn't a purchase I would make if I couldn't afford it all at once anyway.

    20. I do offer layaways because i totally understand that someone doesnt have the full sum at once. I, howewer, prefer to pay at once for my dolls. The reason is because my taste changes so fast that it could happen that by the end of the layaway the doll I wanted wouldnt be what i wanted anymore.
