It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. What are your opinions on layaway?

Aug 11, 2012

    1. I've gotten several of my dolls through layaway. You still have to be disciplined about it. I can't tell you how close I came to buying a doll a few weeks ago even though I have my fullset Rendia on layaway, but I knew I (and my husand) would regret it! haha!

    2. I find layaway to be a wonderful option since it gives one the opportunity to own a doll he or she really wants without putting too much pressure on a financial side of the purchase. Sometimes is really hard to give away a big chunk of money and justify to yourself but smaller payments make it seem not that bad and one can concentrate on the doll itself and not the amount of money that needs to be paid.

    3. I can afford getting a doll in one buy but I found layaway really helps me manage over-buying dolls xD it reminds me that I have to pay for a doll monthly and that I am expecting that specific doll. If I binge buy in one go I have a higher chance of buying another doll the following month :sweat

    4. I think it's convenient. I could afford it right now, but using layaway just gives me extra time to ensure my financial situation will be comfy for paying off the whole doll c:

    5. I currently have one on a long layaway. I could pay her off in one go, but seeing a figure that large on my bank/credit card statement feels kinda awful. Besides, it'll be a few months since she actually gets casted and made, so why not use the time to pay smaller payments so your pockets aren't hit so hard in one go? You always will have the option to pay off your layaway in full in the future. :)

It's nice for everyone to get the opportunity to engage in a hobby this extravagant. I feel like it doesn't leave anyone out because of their financial situation.

    6. I like layaway for other large purchases. I'm planning on using layaway when I decide on my first BJD (squeeeee!).

    7. Literally my savior, there are several dolls I would not have been able to get without it. I'm struggling right now to come up with money for the Volks FCS, if only they did layaway it would save my ass ;>.>

    8. I could not live without layaway. I've never bought a full doll without layaway. New ones and second hand ones! I have 2 dolls on layaway right now. I'm completely incapable of saving money so it's the only way for me to buy expensive things. I just factor the payment into my monthly bills and pay it on payday then I can't spend it. If I tried to just put money aside for a doll I'd never keep from spending it.

    9. I think layaway is cool, really helps when funds are tight and u only have so much money to put aside for it, especially if u have other things to pay for that a kindof more important. but this is just my opinion. I generally save deposit and pay the rest off by layaway, it works for me :) Alice collections layaway time of 3 months is great and they are really friendly to deal with, I recommend them to others:)

    10. Layaways are great to get a doll, which is way to expensive for just one payment... but in the end... I always find myself paying two rates in one month just to get the doll earlier. xD

I loose the money anyway for my dreamdoll, so I could pay it if I have it. If you know, what I mean.

Its actually like that with my Lilicat Jolie... I have had a three month layaway... I endet with paying it much earlier than it was planed. xD

I think I would do another Layaway with DDE for my Feeple and I'm willing to pay month after month. ^__^

    11. I don't know if I'll do layaway again. I'm thinking of cancelling the one I have going now because I don't think I want her anymore and I'd rather lose the small deposit than have a doll I don't want. 6 months has been a long time!

    12. Layaway can be really useful, but I prefer to buy dolls outright in one payment to eliminate any nasty surprises with exchange rates :XD:

    13. I'm a big user of 0% credit and/or layaway because it's easier for me to budget a small amount a month towards a purchase than save. I'm unfortunately an admitted pretty bad saver, but I'm a good budgeter for living on what my paychecks provide without overspending. I tend to blow excess on stuff like dolls / doll clothing though even though I know I should save >.>

    14. I really like layaway, it makes dolls easier to buy. I'm really bad when it comes to saving money. When I see extra money in my bank account, it's hard for me not to spend it orz... Smaller monthly payments are easier to pay for me. Plus, monthly payments can be inserted in my "budget".^^

Also, I like it because it feels like the waiting is less long? Because I haven't finished payed the doll, I'm more patient.

Edit 20160722 : Having multiple layaways makes it very stressing for me. I will be more careful.

    15. I think layaway is a great option for people who can't afford the price of a doll upfront! I'd prefer to pay for a doll all at once, but at this point in my life it's not really feasible, so layaway allows me to buy a doll without putting too much stress on my wallet. My first doll is on layaway right now, actually! Also, I'll probably be waiting a while for the doll anyway, so why not break up the price into smaller monthly payments?

    16. I use layaway for all my dolls, and never been upset once. The dealer i go with is very nice. She answers all my questions. I have 4 dolls in layaway right now with her.

    17. I've never used layaway simply because I like paying for things all at one. However, I did consider using it when I wanted to get my DZ Virgil. I had the money all together, but didn't want to spend all of it at once since my salary was small. In the end, I spent the whole thing in one go rather than the layaway and everything worked out well. However, if it was a limited or I didn't have the money together but was on a timetable, I would use layaway.

    18. layaway is such a nice thing for hobbyists who would otherwise not be able to afford a doll. Personally I, with my job and the rent and bills I have to pay, will probably have to put my next doll on some form of layaway, but for Lucinda I ended up saving all my tip money in a jar over the span of half a year before I had enough to afford her and it felt nice being able to put in an order for her right there at once and know she was on the way so Idk.

    19. I think layaway a are definitely useful form, especially for those who recieve payment in segments and want a limited doll. Many dolls are limited, many thus layaway is the only payment option, even if it does take longer.

    20. Layaway is awesome to me! I was able to snag a soon-to-be discontinued head because of Layaway. <3 (Not much to go by, I'm just starting out. :O )
