1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

What are your opinions on layaway?

Aug 11, 2012

    1. Can't live without layaway. If I can't layaway a doll I don't ever believe I'll own it.

    2. I've almost always done layaway since I rarely have the money upfront. I find it really helpful.

    3. I think layaways are wonderful! It's nice to know you can spend a little over a few months rather than just dropping a huge amount in one go.

    4. I am thankful for layaway; I wouldn't have got Alex home, if it wasn't for layaway!!

It opens up options that would otherwise be unaccessible to some. Iplehouse offer layaway, but it'd still be too much at ยฃ300 (approx) a month for me to bring their SID Eric home. But, I paid in instalments to bring my Ringdoll Grown boy home; if I hadn't, he wouldn't be sitting next to me today. And, I don't know what I would have done without him; I'm not kidding, when I say he's my saving grace. He's more important to me than I sometimes realise, so - to me - layaway is a godsend.

It just means waiting a bit longer, is all. I waited about 4.5 months, from the first payment, before he came home. I've managed to, this second time ordering a doll, pay it all off in one go, because it's under ยฃ150. So, he'll probably be home sooner (I've actually read some people got their dolls, from the company I've ordered from this time, within a month or two of ordering...so, I'm kind of glad I ordered his wig this evening. I just need a simple outfit, so he's not nude for long.)

    5. I'm glad for layaways, I like to budget my spending over a few payments sometimes, it softens the blow to my wallet.
I know it can mean the difference to some people between getting the doll they really want or missing out if it's limited and they can't afford the full price.

    6. I think the layaway option is awesome for people that want to buy the doll and know they an afford it, but don't want to put down tons of money at once.

Personally though, I'm on the fence about using the option myself.
I would like to use layaway, as it'd be nice to do payments here and there instead of covering a big price tag all at once, but I'm also a super impatient person, and I know that once the first payment is done, I'll want my doll and will have trouble waiting to do all the payments and the shipping process.

    7. I love layaway's but sometimes get nervous when the doll company's website goes down and I think they ran off with all my money. But it does put an ease on my pockets. It's hard for me to be financial responsible at times though.

    8. I think layaway is a great idea. It would certainly help with some of those higher end dolls, not that it can't be used for all dolls. However I also think that people should be honest with themselves about the money that they can spend. Just because a doll is available for layaway payments doesn't mean that you can afford it. ^_^;

    9. i think i would only ever use it on some limited doll i desperately wanted but didn't have all of the money for or some other situation like that. owing people money makes me nervous plus i am a very impatient person so the waiting would drive me crazy :sweat

    10. I would never have gotten my DollZone The Moon and Hermit if it weren't for layaway!
I make sure I have money set aside for layaway alone. I never risk missing a payment because that'd be a waste for me!

      Layaway is a my lifeboat.

    11. I like that the option exist for people who can't easily drop huge amount of money at once (in case of limited editions, for example), but as for myself, I don't use it because I paying for everything at once gives me a sense of being "done" and that I "don't have to worry" about it anymore.

    12. I typically use layaway only if its a doll I KNOW I can afford but I'm waiting on my paychecks.

    13. due to my non-regular income as a hobbyist-artist, i only buy dolls in one session, because i never know how much i will earn in the next time :'D but if you have a regular income, i'm sure it is very helpful for people who dont want to spend a big amount of money at once

    14. I do contract work and I get paid biweekly. This is exactly my feelings on layaway too! lol

    15. I'm the kind of person who will come extra prepared, save up longer than needed just to be extra sure and then... lose interest and not spend it xD I am definitely not the layaway kind of person but maybe that would be a way to guarantee I'd actually get the doll? But no I'm too much of a pessimist I'd definitely think that something would come up and I wouldn't be able to pay the rest. So I prefer to just pay upfront and be done with it. Just for the peace of mind.

    16. I love the idea of a layaway but it also makes me nervous. Honestly sending the amount of money that these dolls are worth makes me nervous period.

    17. It's a life saver for the frugal but it's a death bringer to the forgetful!

    18. I always prefer to pay in full when I can, mostly because then it is over and done with and I don't have to worry about it anymore. I have done layaways a few times, and I love it, but I get soo nervous something is going to happen and cause me to miss my layaway payments, or force me to spend the layaway money on an emergency instead. It's just way too much stress :shudder

    19. I haven't used layaway yet to buy my dolls but I am so happy to have the option! I think layaway is a great tool for some of those expensive full set dolls. Life can always smack you in the face with finances but if you can keep those payments steady the rewards are awesome! And kudos to those companies that do layaways and dealers that accept it too!

    20. layaway for me is very helpful if you want a doll but do not have enough funds to pay it in full. I did layaways on my 2 recent bjds.
