1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

What attracts you to comment on picture posts?

Jan 10, 2010

    1. Beautiful or cute dolls. Especially those with really nice expressions.

    2. I generally feel compelled to comment on things, regardless if it's a picture post or not, based on whether or not I feel I have genuine input to the topic. Yes, if I see a doll that I quite like, I'll think to myself it's rather cute, but otherwise I don't comment, because it sounds incredibly insincere to hear "it's cute" 500 times. If I can pinpoint WHY I think it's cute, however, and articulate a few sentences about it, then yes, I will leave a comment. It doesn't matter how long or short the thread.

    3. If I can see that the owner really loves their doll. There's some excellent photography and artists on here, and most of the time I'm in a constant state of awe, however I tend to leave a comment when the owner's attatchment to a story, character or doll is really obvious alongside the technical things, because that's what makes this hobby 'real' to me. :)

    4. I try to comment on pictures where I can tell the owner is really trying to improve and making an effort to take the best possible photos of their dolls. Aside from that I really love to comment on the pictures of the doll photographers that inspire me. Just as a sort of thank you and keep up the good work sort of thing.

    5. I like to comment when I can tell that a lot of love and effort went into the doll. If there is a thread that hasn't gotten a lot of love, I like to comment on those as well. There is almost always something positive that can be said about the doll, scenery, props, outfit, wig, etc! :)

    6. Interesting title with sculpt name or theme gets me to click it in the first place, then something unique or very well done makes me want to comment.

    7. When I can tell that the owner really loves the doll! It makes me want to comment on their pictures all the more. There are hundreds of beautiful dolls and even more wonderful photos of them but I believe you can really tell when they've poured all their energy into them and the doll's character is shining through~ it's wonderful to see people get creative even if their photographs aren't the most professional of the lot. It's easier to take a professional, well-arranged, taken with a high-end SLR and photoshop processed image and post it for the viewing pleasure of others than to take a simply honest one and I just happen to admire these kind of pictures too.

    8. i only comment if i have something worthwhile to say. if i am going to offer praise, it is genuine and i am commenting because this person has evoked some emotions in me of some kind or another. there are so many beautiful photographs on here, so many talented people. if i comment on every pretty thing, it would be hard to keep up. people whose talent i admire, or that has a doll/image that i desire grab my attention and keep it. i dont choose only popular or only neglected threads. if something of mine was popular, i wouldnt want people to comment JUST because it's popular, and if my threads never saw the light of day, i wouldnt want people to comment nice things just to be nice. i value honesty. i think its possible to be compassionate and honest, too. sometimes that means holding my tongue.

    9. It is true that I chosen at what I look according to my tastes (I like enormously dolls Fairyland and artists' dolls). Later it is the creative and artistic work produces which is going to make me comment (the work on the doll or its clothes, the story told or the photo itself)
Later it is not always easy to find something intelligent to say thus what I see has to inspire me! ^^

    10. I have very, very few dolls and collectors that I REALLY adore.
Like in everything I see from them, be it a certain doll or a work from a specific collector, makes me swoon and hits me in the right places.
In these cases I often write comments and it's often a mutual feeling, i.e. the collector adores one of my dolls a lot too and we talk often through comments.

However, except from these very few cases (I can actually count them on one hand) I rarely tend to comment.
I'm very picky with my own work and it's the same for the work of other people.
Only pretty is not enough for me, so a few headshots of a well-kept and good looking doll does not really spark any interest in me to comment on it.
Since I'm especially picky when it comes to photography it's rather hard to satisfy me, but when it happens I'm more than glad to leave a long comment!:D
However, companies mean nothing to me. Of course there are a few I really like, but it's not a bonus that makes me comment more.

Oh, I also like to help people who show they are willing to learn and accept critical approaches to their work, i.e. don't start to whine when they don't only get "OMG SO GREAT" on their photos, and ask for honest opinions. I'm of course polite, but I'm definitely honest too.

    11. I comment because I want to let the owner of the pictures know that I enjoyed her/his work, because I love the looks of the doll, to congrat the owner, etc.

    12. I comment when I really like the photo/story - especially if there aren't that many comments. I tend to focus on creativity, on the use of props & posing, on well-done costumes, & of course on people doing things I love (ie cosplays of anime/shows I geek on). I don't comment if I have nothing useful or intelligent to say (ie if the thread is already 10 pages long full of 'OMG I love this' comments why bother...)

    13. I comment on post that "speak" to me for some reason. A sculpt I love, an idea , a tutorial or creativity will get me and just to encourage people. We get caught up in making our dolls perfect or posting perfect photos and sometimes forget it's a hobby which means it's not life or death but fun for all of us.

    14. I comment if the photography is really stunning, they've done something really creative that I might try out, if they have commented on something of mine, or the doll sculpt is really lovely and I haven't come across it before!

    15. I would have to say photographic technique and lighting. I would comment on pictures with interesting lighting, composition or general creative use of the camera.

I found nothing good to say if 1) the doll itself is not...dressed that well? the clothing are not fitting, the wig is a mess, the colour choices are a mess...there's so much more but if the doll doesn't look good in physical life it will hardly look good in photography. 2) blantant face on lighting. it's easy and everyone with a lamp can do it. it doesnt provoke interest or sense of drama. you are photographing an inanimate object that already lacks motion and interest, why are you photoing it like it's a dead body.

    16. I never look at the gallery unless I'm bored, when I'll start looking through 'new posts' and a title catches my eye - it has to be an interesting title for me to click on it - or if it's someone's first doll as I love those box openings! I will comment if it's obvious someone has gone to a lot of effort with the photos, staging them etc. because I am far too lazy to do this myself, and I admire anyone who bothers to go to all that trouble, just to entertain others :)

    17. LOL! I comment on everything! People put their time and hearts into the hobby and since I love the hobby, I want to support them. ^_^

    18. My first doll hasn't arrived yet, so I rarely comment on photo posts, if at all... If I see a sculpt or a doll I like, or an interesting pose, I might comment on it with praise, or critique if they want it!

    19. An interesting question. I had to think about it for a bit. If the doll touches my emotions in some way, I always end up commenting on it- if the pic makes my laugh -or feel sad, or takes my breath away. or makes me think, or is even a bit scary. I saw one a few days ago of a girl doll reading, surrounded by books- and the pic stayed in my head all day. I smiled every time I thought of it.

    20. I comment when the picture looks pretty/interesting to me, and when there's a lot of picture !!! I really enjoy it ^^
