1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

What Do You Do While You Wait?

Jul 30, 2016

    1. I normally just buy more stuff for my doll haha. Plus I do a lot of lurking different instas and tumblr doll accounts to kinda hype myself up lol. I also like to search for more dolls to go on my wishlist!

    2. I feel like I have to map out a character to determine what he/she will wear, that's why unfortunately my "new" hand-me-down doll will be sitting in a pikachu onesie until I figure an appropriate clothing line for her.

    3. On a slightly unrelated note to this thread, my wait is now over. My friend gave me a hand-me-down 1/6th doll (so I have no information on her company/backing), but she's adorable, bald, naked and perfect so I couldn't be happier for now.

    4. Buuuuuuuut, another random updated, I DID order my very own BJD (Tiny Delf 20 Elf Ver.) tonight, so that starts off my own little family to sit on my desk and keep me company while I work. :whee:

    5. Ooo! What kind of modifications were you thinking of doing to your doll? I've always been interested but the prospect of editing something that expensive scares the bajeebus out of me (I mean heck, if I make a graphic tee with my own design it's on a 5$ tee lol).

    6. Like others have said up-thread, if I already have an idea solidly in mind for the doll, I'll use the wait time as "prep-time" to hunt down the other things I know I'll need when they arrive... Their proper hair and eyes, outfits, shoes, jewelry, props and that sort of thing.

If I *don't* have a particular idea in mind for the doll (And I don't always. Sometimes I won't have the first clue what a doll's best "look" or theme will be before I actually have them in-hand-), I just go about my business living life and tinkering with the rest of the crew. I have enough spare bits-and-pieces these days that I know the doll won't be naked, eyeless and bald while I figure things out.

All in all, at this point I'm pretty low-key/low-stress when it comes to waiting. The doll will ship when it ships, and there's no sense in letting impatience get the better of you. It doesn't make the time pass any faster, unfortunately.

    7. @Sabrekitty

I probably shouldn't be so enthusiastic about these mods--you are right, BJDs are expensive--but they are kind of my de-stress hobby; that and sewing.

I'm also a terrible forum poster. I haven't updated these threads in a while, and I'm currently states away from my dolls. But here's a summary, if you are curious--I know there are people with more experience and who are better modders, but if you have any questions about the specific mods listed, or another mod, feel free to ask me. I will answer as best as I can.

The names are in quotes because they are sort of fillers for now.

      "Prometheus"
complete: nose mod (to aquiline nose); slight eye opening

      "Eurydice"

complete: male to female mod (adding breasts, slight other modifications to muscles, etc.); sandal feet mod; extra wrist joint)
      in progress: torso cutout; extra finger joint (?); spine mod;

      "Kore"

in progress: crystal growths; rock texture; snowflake texture (I have no idea how I'm doing this)

      "Orpheus"

      complete: gap tooth
in progress: cyborg modifications (prosthetic leg, cyborg parts); extra finger

      "Dolos"
      the cat
      complete:
head mod (opened neck hole for larger neck)

      "Hades"

complete: shelf for thigh on knee joint (poseability mod); neck mod (aesthetic)

      "Hermes"
complete: cheekbones (he looks nothing like he does in his project journal--I modded him a lot because after airbrushing I realized I hadn't sculpted some parts as I wanted, and then didn't take more pics because he wasn't sanded)
      in progress:
      mouth opening; face mods

      "Charon"
      no thread yet
      in progress:
      barnacle growth mods; shark mouth mod; webbed fingers and toes; gill mod;

    8. I usually shop for fabrics that would make cute clothes, as well as a couple sets of clothes that match the measurements. I also have pendants for necklaces too that I'd get on sale, but I've yet to find the right size necklace chains. For my first BJD in particular, she had a good 5 or 6 Barbie dresses ready to go by the time she got here cause I would check the nearby Walmart each time I went by.

    9. Wow you have quite a bit of research/looking into already done. I am very impressed, you will have some interesting characters in the works on your hands!

    10. I stalked the seller who previously owned my doll. Creepy, right? Well not really the person but the dolls photos. hahaha. XD And window shopping for clothes that I will be buying for my doll.

    11. Well I'm currently waiting for some stuff that has a turn around time of at least a month. Everything should be here in two weeks. What I have been doing in that time is wondering if it will really get to me and thinking about what I will do if my stuff isn't here and I don't hear from them. I'm sure the wait would be filled with less dread if I bought from these places before. So now I mostly worry.

    12. I seem to order from companies with long wait times 4-6 months, so I just try and forget about it. I can't actually forget, but I do try and detach. When it gets close to the 20 week mark though, I'm getting antsy and start getting excited again. I have learned that getting items beforehand doesn't work for me, so I have to wait until the doll is home before I can begin the search for the prefect eyes, wig, outfit, sigh. I have three dolls I'm waiting for that I plan on sewing their outfits. Since they are odd sizes, I have to wait until they are home to draft the patterns. At least I can buy the fabrics and hope I don't change my mind, lol.

    13. I'm waiting for one now. For me it's a mix between forget about the doll or look for every single picture of him/her on website. After I purchase I also start to buy wigs, clothing, eyes and accessories

    14. When I wait for a doll to arrive I often buy some clothes and accessories for the doll that is to come. I plan the character fully and else play around with the dolls that I already have at home. Apart from that I do what I usually do, keeping myself updated on what is going on, new dolls or new accessories.

Apart from that, since I am a mother it is limited what kind of sparetime I have as being a single mother is almost full time work.

    15. When I ordered my first doll, I went looking around for wigs clothes shoes and props to match the character I have in mind for it

    16. I'm waiting for a little guy, so I ordered him some shoes and made him some "playclothes" that have some wiggle room size-wise. He's going to be a pretty dapper little dude, though, so I haven't done his proper sewing yet. I do need to find some fabric that will work for him - that's a great wait-time project. :) I'm also doing stuff for my other dolls and making a Gryffindor dorm-room roombox for my Cu-Poche Anne. :D That's been inspiring and I may duplicate some of the props for my little guy. :)

    17. I got their heads first. Now I've bought eyes and craft supplies while I save for their bodies. Right now I'm making wigs.

    18. looping others doll picture and thinking about what kind of faceup i can do for them

    19. I usually stalk clothing, and wig sites while I wait so that way I can have some clothes on the way for when the doll arrives. Plus, it gives me more time to fall in love with my doll even before they arrive.

    20. While I wait, look at bjd company sites more and just check over again I got the right dolls etc. I do something like in my minds-eye that all I have for the doll is exact what I want. Got to be on the right track if that all works out. So I just patiently wait until the doll comes in.
