1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

What do you tell people who dont know what bjds are?

May 31, 2007

    1. I tell them they are "articulated figurines". For some reason many find this more acceptable to collect then dolls. I also just feel like it expresses what a bjd IS better. When I think of dolls I go the barbie route with rooted hair and peg or snap joints. Not really elastic and ball joints. To me it's closer to my articulated anime and comics figures. So I lump them as one when I talk about them to non BJD people.

    2. I refer to them as Poseable Sculpture. Since they are originally sculpted and they pose ^^ I let people know they can be painted and fully customized :) This is to people who thing it's strange.

Everyone else I just say they are my dollies and I sure do love em!

    3. I tell people they're hand-sculpted, hand painted Asian art dolls. I like to focus on the hand-crafted aspect so people don't balk if they want to talk price tags. I talk my dolls up and like to make em sound fancy. ;)

    4. I tell them that they are dolls, like barbies but bigger :P that you can change their wig, clothes, parts, face ups and so on. I go in depth depending of how much they want to know.

    5. Well when I say to people that they are ball jointed dolls the first 3 things I say is:
      Yes, they are for adults.
      No, they are not Barbies.
NO, they are definitely not possessed!!!!!!!
      hehe

    6. If it's a really not-geek person (or a small child), I'll call them "Big Barbies that you can customize, down to their wig and skin tone".

Geek people might get a slightly longer description, including their joints and the fact they're usually from Asia.

    7. when i jumped in this hobby, i face a lot of difficulties when i trying to own them.
i meet some ppl will just tell you:
hey dont play this kind of doll! its scary!
      Hey they are ghost Doll!
Hey you are big enough, dont you?
      hey its just like Annabelle...

well i overcome these question and question by ignoring them.
people just dont really like its because they doesn't fall on this hobby, neither they are in Anime or Manga.
well, i even happy when i get my family understanding and support me in this hobby where they really know i love dolls when i was small.

other ppl will just ask you to stop. stop stop.
my Hobby is not their's hobby, so i just dont bother what they trying to push me, or stop me from.

I WIll just tell to those People, they are my DOLL. you dont even saw a unique doll Before? :D

    8. Usually I just say they are art dolls. I have that "artsy hippie" look about me I guess because no one has questioned further lol.

    9. I say they are collectable dolls from all over the world! Hey, it's true. Of course, everything about them is true. Just words like collectable are easier for people to understand.

    10. Oh gosh I encounter the same scenario haha. A friend of mine who watched Annabelle kept going how dolls are haunted and reacted quite negatively.

But I really do love this hobby very much :) I would say it's an art and it's beautiful, the sculpt of a doll and the structure everything as well as how ball-jointed doll come about. If they are interested in knowing more I don't mind elaborating more and tell them about the wonderful things of owning bjds and other information including basic care and such.

    11. I have been confronted with this, but due to being quite obsessed I have a ton of pictures of my own BJDs and screen shots of ones I am after on my phone, so I just show them. My sheer enthusiasm scares people I think, so they generally don't ask again :D

    12. I tell them that they're collector dolls with fully poseable joints for art purposes as well as customization.

    13. yup i encounter all those bad comments, well, ppl will just tell whatever to stop you from what they dislikes, will they tell you they are bad habits on keep on shoppings for clotheS? i bet wont right? i also told them that, everyone's interest and hobby is different, i like DOLL and ANime ANd figurines. so they will just stop here :D

    14. Well I usually just say ''Super expensive doll!'' because everyone knows my doll obsession, but if they wonder they're so expensive I romanticize them as Hand made, hand painted, hand strung dolls with ultimate customizability.

    15. I usually call them my art projects. I've done face ups on a few heads and one of the full dolls and his body. I brought a yosd on vacation with me my mom called it 'your toy.' I called him 'my boy.'

    16. Usually I just say they are art dolls. I think it's better to be silent than to explain all about of these dolls.

    17. Asian dolls that are completely poseable and customizable.
