It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. What do you think about Hybrids?

Nov 19, 2008

    1. I dont think there unethical, There just not my thing. And I am not an elitiest just because I dont like them. Its my personal taste, I like many kinds of doll companies but I dont have to like everything and I am not just going to cave in because some people want to be rude and call me names thanks ^^

    2. Hm, well it's not as silly a question as you might think at first. Would you put an pbviously hybridised body on a company's (who's head you have) gallery? How about if you had that company's body and a different head? Wouldn't one feel ... odd? Like it's a little bit rude? Would you go and take a Volks head mounted on a fantasy Soom body (very clearly non-volks) to a Volks Dolpa? Again, i don't think i would do that.

So while it's not unethical to do it or to have one, it might be in poor taste to flaunt if in the face of the company if that is not the sort of thing they encourage (companies that make only heads can be said to "encourage" this). that's my 2 cents.

    3. I honestly never planned to hybridize any of my dolls.

And then Fairyland came out with the realpuki, and I'm now most likely going to be putting one of my pukis on a realpuki body. It suits his character more!

And while I might not be hybridizing a doll across company lines, it still brings a few questions into play. For instance, where would I end up posting pictures of him? With which thread in the forums would he belong?

When you hybridize a doll, do you classify it by its head? Its body? A class of its own?

    4. Tricky buggers, aren't they? ;) I've noticed that in the database threads they tend to go by head sculpt. Sometimes I'll refer to mine by head sculpt as in I have a Ninodoll hybrid or Volks hybrid, or sometimes I'll say Ninodoll/Customhouse or SD13/Obitsu--either way I do include the fact that they are hybrids, however.

    5. In things like thread titles, I usually refer to mine by the head, like "DIM Belita hybrid". If there's more room, like in a gallery post, I'll list both parts: "DIM Belita/Lumedoll hybrid".

It's tough to decide though... because both parts are important to the overall appearance of the doll.

    6. I don't think it is the fact that you don't like hybrid dolls that is a problem... it is the fact that if someone has a hybrid you won't talk to them or talk of them as some sort of atrophy... >.> ya.

It is kinda like, ... must your entire outfit be from the same brand? You can't mix and match and pick what you like? I think for a lot of people dolls are one channel of their artistic freedom... and in that sense you should be able to pick and choose what you like to make the doll into whatever you have in mind. Actually, why stop there, if you are not supposed to make hybrids, do you have to only buy from one company for wigs and eyes and clothings and shoes too? >.>

I thought about it long and hard though, if I have a hybrid doll where would I post about it... I'd say probably the head. But occasionally the body if someone ask a question about "how does the body pose" that sorta question. :>

    7. I have one hybrid of the moment in my collection. I purchased the head first and then saved up for 6 months until I was finally able to afford the body I wanted for him, which wasn't a body from the company that made him originally. I'd post by the head, as too me that's the more important part of the doll.

    8. Navci, Oh no I mean I dont like to talk of hybrids XD Course I will talk to people who own hybrids lol XP

    9. Good question Lyzrd....I'd never really given it much thought!
I instantly classify the doll by its head....even though most of "the doll" is the body! So, I say, Supia Lana on a Dollstown Elf body, but, I always make sure I mention what body the head is on. In my case, mostly Dollstown..lol.;)

AiL Chloe on a Dollstown 13 Body, Leekeworld Milch on a Dollstown 7G Body...
My list of Hybrids goes on.............;)

      xen :)

    10. i like hybrid dolls.

sometimes i wouldn't even know that the doll I'm holding is a hybrid good resin match i guess.

    11. Has anyone tried putting a DIM head NS on a SSDF NS? Any recommendations to a resin match? I am specifically looking for an adult male body vs. boy body. I prefer at least a little bulk versus none.

I posted this questionon DIM owner discussion thread as well. Thanks in advance.

    12. Exactly---hybrids are a way to make your 'perfect' dollfie. I know when I'm trying to make a 'portrait' doll of a real person, I first have to find the head shape that would match the person best, and can be modified to be that person with good results. Whether it's the brand that the body is or not, the head is most important. Then, height plays a factor and pretty soon, you're mixing and matching to get your ultimate doll.

Many of my dolls are hybrids so that they're not all too 'similar' to each other, too. I like to keep my dolls in the proper 'scale' to each other. For example, if I have 3 60cm boys and in real life (they're seiyuu/actor portrait dolls), the guys are 5'5", 5'7" and 5'9", I am going to buy a taller body for the tall boy, then the shorter for the short and so on. ^^

So for me, hybrids are perfect ways to get your doll exactly how you envisioned him/her. Sometimes, the full dolls just don't add up to exactly your wants/tastes. ^^

    13. I've put my Sephiroth Minimee on my SSDF body--in fact, I got that body specifically for him! ^^ The match is just lovely, as well as the size proportions. :3

    14. It's your money and you should be able to do whatever you want with it. I don't really see any viable argument here at all.

    15. So far I've found photos of SDF, SSDF and Limhwa Mano bodies used with Minimee heads. WOW!

    16. I've found that some of the larger Minimee heads can look a bit bobbleheaded on SDF bodies (such as my Sephiroth MNM head). The SSDF body takes care of this problem quite handily! 8D

This is why I like hybrids! They're so versatile!! ^^ You can change and swap them however you like! X3

    17. Sure they are both ethical and acceptable, oftentimes even nicer than a non-hybrid doll. I personally don't have any, but that is not to say that I don't admire them. However, I don't see myself ever owning a hybrid doll. Just not my cup of tea. ~Gus

    18. In regards to classifying hybrids, my (complete) hybrid is my Soom/AoD mix, I have problems classifying him still ^^; I list him by his head mould name in some places but in others I will go by his body sculpt (Soom Glati) as more people actively call him a Glati than a Wan-Wan due to not having a clue what a Wan-Wan is.

      I've decided that every one of my minifee (my two planned and two I have) are going to be hybrids - putting aside my dislike on the appearance and posing of minifee bodies but adoration of the heads, they are just too short ^^;

    19. I don't have any issue whatsoever with hybrids, but all my planned dolls are just regular head and body from same company. What I'd be worried about is whether the resin match stays after the resin starts to age. I mean, how horrid of a scenario would it be if your perfect white skin RS Mei head yellows, but you gorgeous beauty white Minifee body greens...

    20. I like hybrids and I have one so far. Sometimes there are sculpts out there that are more limited and buying them is difficult without use of the secondary market. One of my favourite sculpts, Zaoll Luv came up as a head on the marketplace so I bought her right away and put her on a Notdoll body. XD I may be switching her to another body and modding that body a lot because I have a Bleu Citron head coming in. I also have a Glorydoll head coming in, so I'm planning to put her on a taller double-jointed body because she has an action-based character.

I usually classify mine by head type first, then body. :)
