What do you think of 'mini mes'

Aug 15, 2022

    1. I’d say go for it!! I have a hobby friend who’s Volks Megu absolutely mirrors how she looks!!

I was really inspired by her other dolls, and ordered a Volks Hansel for myself off the marketplace. He’s a boy, I didn’t think too much of him until he arrived and he looks exactly like me!!!

I gave him red hair and blue eyes to give him the full effect, I call him my son!! I used to take selfies with him all the time because I thought it was so cool!! Lol

    2. So I'm a newly out transman and my very first doll was meant to be the Me I always wanted to be. I do have an outfit to twin with him (and he currently shares my colouration re: hair, skin tone, eye colour and skin conditions) but he is expressing something more than just fashion.
I have a doll that also physically represents a dear friend of mine who passed away. The doll twins her in expression and general outline (hair style, face shape) but again she is expressing something a lot more than just physical resemblance.
I say, go for it. Dolls aren't just twins and mirrors, they have the ability to express parts of yourself you might not be able to express.

    3. It sounds like a fun challenge (my wardrobe and makeup are all over the place aesthetics-wise lol) but there's not a lot of companies that have both Asian sculpts and my skintone :(

    4. I would not personally make one, I don't think I'd like looking at myself in doll form at all really, but I do think they're a fun concept and I like seeing other people make theirs!

A friend said one of my dolls does look like a little me but I don't really agree, though I can see a degree of similarity

I am all for twinning with my dolls though! But I also like twinning with my friends  And then we are not trying to look like the same person but just wearing the same clothes.

My goal is to have some identical lolita coords with some of my dolls, I have many human sized and a few various doll sized outfits in that style, but none of them are very close to matching *_* I guess my dolls and I have slightly different tastes ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    5. While I wouldn't want one myself, I do think it's really cute when someone has a matching doll! I have dressed like my dolls before, but since my dolls represent my OCs, I don't really have a place in my crew for a doll of myself.

    6. It's way too cute to see a doll and owner in matching outfits. I love looking at those kinds of photos! I don't think I'd ever own a doll that represents me though. I'd rather just have a doll that shares an outfit at some points in time.

    7. If I found a sculpt with a big Mediterranean nose like mine, I’d probably be intrigued! As it stands, I’m drawn to fluffy curly mohair wigs, maybe because I also have big fluffy curly hair. I want to dress my doll in fantasy/historically inspired garments that would be impractical for my life.

    8. I find this concept intriguing and comforting. My third doll is suppossed to be „mini me” but with a lot of liberties - not literally me, but an idealized version of „fantasy-self” and „self-insert” I’ve developed through years. So I am not seeking sculpt which looks like me, which is probably not realistic and unattainable. I am just looking for aesthetic that will resonate with who I could be and how I could dress in an alternate universe. So far she was only existing in writing and as a digital avatar via various games.

It will be nice to have her sitting next to me. I really love what @PoeticSoul said in this thread: „by telling the stories of my dolls, I tell the story of myself” and I second this!

    9. I think it would be so cute! If you do make one, I would love to see updates about the process!

    10. I'm perfectly fine with the concept of mini mes. They allow people to explore other aspects of themselves that they don't personally feel they could express or be (in the physical appearance they wish they could be). It can be a great way to build one's self confidence, as well as a deeper understanding of who they are.

As for me personally—I wouldn't consider doing a direct mini me of myself. For my crew, I prefer having more fantasy/fictional world OCs/existing characters shelled as bjds, so doing a real-world take is a bit boring to me. As for a game character that's representing me in that in-game universe—I wouldn't mind maybe creating a bjd version of them.

I am a bit obsessed with SWTOR (AKA Star Wars: the Old Republic), and have a Jedi Knight Chiss [if you're familiar with Thrawn from the EU or SW Rebels series—that's his species] take of myself I called Mara Jaide who I really like the design of (my first name's Mara, and it's my alt take on the EU's Mara Jade). Blue-skinned force-user with a cool hair style that would be fun to have a physical model of—I'd be completely down with it. Since they only have binary choices for character design choices, making a physical model would allow me to truly explore the enby aspects of the character mini-me further that are limited within the game itself.:kitty2
