1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

What doesn't exist in BJD that should?

Aug 21, 2021

    1. For sure aquiline noses on girls. I've pretty much accepted that in my iple crew, one of the characters I plan on doing just... won't have the right nose, and I'll have to work around it with styling to make her look right.

More variety in male bodies is the other thing I want-- you can get chubby-ish little boys, but mature guys are all either waifish or musclebound.

    2. I kind of wish there were a size between 1/4 and 1/3. I would like having younger siblings for a few of my SD dolls, but MSDs are too small.

    3. Sculpts with multiple faceplates, so that you can change your doll's expression! I don't know of any company that does this except Unoa (and the occasional sleeping versions of existing sculpts).

    4. Since I started this hobby , almost one year , I was thinking why they could not have an electronical mechanism ?? Maybe to have voice and say some words or a song ? Or something like this . Or make them virtual with an app . Make them be more in real .

    5. I have to agree with more diversity in terms of skin tone and features- the darker skin BJDs I do see are so so beautiful but seem few and far between

    6. I definitely appreciate the gorgeous dolls I've seen whose sculpts are designed with darker skin tones in mind, but that's true, you have to know which companies to go to... and it gets harder if you only collect within a specific scale, but not impossible. Looking at the companies that do have beautiful tan and brown options has me tempted to throw off my plans and break my budget for sure.

I never thought about that, but just look at historical automata and the different kinds of moving dolls people have come up with in the past... not to mention all the ways toymakers have found to make dolls talk and play music! I bet someone could do something really cool with a BJD with that, especially as you mention app technology. (though a BJD with a music box torso would also be a cool one-of-a-kind project, I think an app would be a much easier way of giving them a voice). I was thinking the other day that I wished I could find LED eyes for one of my heads, for special occasions... but talking is also neat.

    7. Woah led eyes ? It must be really interesting . I would love to see and led eyes . Yeah an app it’s way more easy for them , but they did not think about it , or I do not know . Wish someday our bjd will be real . And to be able to discuss with them . As they did with hatsune miku .

    8. I wish there were more brick and mortar stores that you could go to - especially for wigs, and eyes, and clothing.

    9. I’d love more African and Latin American features on dolls, as well as being able to buy those skin tones without adding $70+ to my order. It feels like a punishment to want my skintone on a doll.

    10. That's a really good point-- the markup is so high! I understand that there's another layer of work that goes into making sure higher-pigment resins come out even, but the cost coupled with the extremely limited availability is just an unnecessary kick in the teeth.

For sure-- it would be nice to be able to try things on to be sure of the fit. Some things I'm confident enough in just ordering, especially when it's not super-specific to one doll's 'taste' and I know if the fit is slightly off it would work on a doll in the same scale but different proportions, but others it's like I have to wait for a convention to look around so I can handle things/see them with my doll.

    11. The markup is because darker pigmentation can only be completed during the coldest time of the year where ever production is going to occur and the materials have a much shorter time frame during which you can still pour the batch before. That's part of the reason why smaller casters have extremely limited runs for different resin colors. It doesn't seem to affect fantasy colors the same way though. (This was explained to me by a bjd artist.)

Personally, I would love to see more companies offering things like hearing aides, cochlear implants and mobility aides.

    12. Body diversity - I get why, but it would be cool to have more to choose from!

    13. More companies offering green, blue, red, purple, etc. resin for their dolls. I know BBB/RS offers most of these, but their sculpts don't often match with what I have in mind.

    14. fr I would love to have a latin american doll without having to diy some features. It's the only thing holding me back from making a couple characters

    15. Plus size bodies, more options for darker skin tones, more sculpts that represent the ethnic groups.

    16. Pudgy bellies that incorporate big round joints so they're still mobile
Also more long tongue options. Jointed tongue?:XD:

    17. More dolls looking over age 25. More muscley women bodies that don't look like runway models. More "dad bods"/average bodies/lack of washboard abs- (they're just not natural. Only flexing men have washboard abs. people with organs who breathe and are hydrated actually tend to the softer body. Most male dolls look flayed and dehydrated to me. it creeps me.)

    18. I would like to see more muscular women, as well as dolls that look Indian. It's a little sad to see no dolls that look like me. I would also like male dolls that are skinny but not muscular, and dolls of any gender that are average. A little tummy is super cute.

    19. It does exist but something that I want to be standardized would be the little notch that holds the s-hook while you change doll hands and feet. Some companies have it but not all. They make life so much easier to be honest.

    20. Differnt facial features and skin tone is surely lacking in most companies. Iplehouse was the one with the mkst diversity to offer
