1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

What if someone else opened your doll?

May 26, 2010

    1. I wouldn't want anyone other than myself opening any mail addressed to me, let alone any doll packages without my permission! I'd be upset if someone did open my doll before I did. Opening doll packages is a very special thing for me as well, simply because of the anticipation, the effort put into saving for them and the waiting involved. If Customs was to open it, I wouldn't really mind it at all, it's bound to happen eventually.

    2. Providing it wasn't damaged, I wouldn't be anymore annoyed at the doll being opened than I would be for any other mail. That said, I already get pretty cranky enough if someone else opens my mail...

    3. It wouldn't be pleasant because I would want to experience the opening of her/his arrival. So I think it would be disappointing and angry to find out someone had opened your package before you. It seems like an invasion of privacy in a way.

    4. I would be okay with someone opening the outer box or small items, but I would like to unpack the doll myself. However, if the box was damaged, I would be very glad if someone checked the doll for me. Permission would be freely given, but I would feel a bit violated if I didn't give any.

    5. Opening the box is not such a big deal for me... it's when the UPS man rings the doorbell and hands me the box that I start bouncing off the walls! Once I've gotten the box from Mr UPS, then everything is okay!

My dolls seem to be stuck in customs this time (dolls #3+#4 arriving together from Minoru World), so I hope the customs officer gets a surprise when they open the box... "Aaagh! Tiny naked people! And hair! And... tiny shoes? WTH?"

    6. It really depends on the situation I guess.
If it was for example my first doll, I would feel very disappointed at not being able to open the doll. After all, it being your first time touching resin that is completely your own (and not borrowed/meetup fondling/etc) and it could be a make or break point in wanting to stay in the hobby itself.
However on the flip side, if it was just another member to a resin army, then I don't think I would particularly mind. After all, some say pulling them out of the wrapping is a pain, ne?

But on the flip side, if the box itself was damaged, I'd rather have someone check it for me. Especially if it was a doll with a limited Return time and the boy or girl ended up damaged. I'd want to get the company alerted as soon as possible.

    7. It has happened to me before. Although it does take the fun out of opening the box. It's ok with me. I am not dissapointed, what really matters to me is the content. The doll is not broken, I love the mold instantly and am overall happy with the doll. Now, if I get a doll I don't instantly like, I get a little dissapointed.

    8. I'd be upset because I like the box opening moment, plus if something's wrong I need to know right away before anyone else handles the doll or causes any changes! Oh and they might not handle the doll as carefully as I would! =|

    9. My parents know not to open Lorelai (Leeke Mabel) when she finally shows up. Death would come on swift wings for anyone who dare open that box without me. XDD Just kidding, but I would still be upset. After waiting and biting my nails, when she comes in it will be a most wonderful day indeed.

    10. I'm probably going to get snarked for this, but in my personal opinion it's no big deal. Dolls are lovely little things, expensive and a pain to wait for, fun to customize and so on, but getting crazy attached to them to the point of snapping at other people for opening a box is a little out there for me. My boyfriend opened up two of my dolls, and I didn't mind a bit. Then again, I don't do the whole box opening ceremony and bonding bit either, so I suppose it also depends on the person. Again, just my opinion.

    11. ...nobody in my home would open any of my packages without checking with me first. Now, admittedly, when I still lived with my mother it was a different story. She used to routinely open my letters, for crying out loud!

To this day, hundreds of miles between us, and she still tries to get into my financial business. Tsh.

I did have a case where I was expecting a doll package to arrive and they'd put a new postal delivery person on my route... when I went to the mailbox and had a full box of someone else's mail, well....I freaked. It wasn't even someone else on my street, but from another road entirely! I immediately went down to the post office and complained, handed them the mail delivered to me, and demanded to know where MY mail was. It all got sorted out.

...and the doll package arrived two days later, anyway. But if someone not of my household opened a doll-box (or any box) intended for me?! Doom. Destruction. Apocalypse.

    12. If someone opened one of my dolls without my permission, I would be VERY angry. As with everything I have shipped, I love openning the packages to see what's inside. Also, there are very few people I would ever trust with openning my dolls. I had my new DZ Lotus shipped back home (I decided that it was a bad idea to ship her here to Iraq) and asked my very good friend (she is my dollsitter) open her for me. Above all, I was incredibly happy to see pictures of my new doll! Though I was also sad that Miku's foothook gashed my friend's thumb.

    13. I would get extremely upset. Especially with me buying it with my own money in the first place, no one else really has the right to. I've yet to get my first BJD, but I know I'd feel horrible if someone went ahead and opened it without permission, because I know that the whole process, with photo taking and such, to be very personal and special. No one else in my family understands my love for these types of dolls. So the thought that one of them would open it without me ... it kind of hurts.

    14. If people open my mail they die. A big part of dropping major cash is the excitement of the unveiling. Deprive me of that and I may deprive you of your life. lol. But seriously, yes that would totally irritate me and make me super angry. Privacy is something hugely important. Since this is something that can be really personalized I think even more so it's a private affair to most.

    15. Well as I usually ship my dolls to my friends house paritally due to my visual impairment and paritlly due to the fact htat my mother whom i live with doesn't know I have dolls I let her open them and one other friend who is also into these dolls I would let open the box but other than that no nope nadda for anyoen to open my mail...grrrr doom...or at least I would be willign to send my character Master Delos Redfern after them to eat their souls just kidding but I wouldn't like it. I like having that moment to see to look at them and know that they are mine.

    16. I wouldn't be very happy at all. I doubt it would happen since it's a no brainer to not open other people's packages, but I did have a dream one time that someone did and it was someone who lives hours away! But the idea of someone opening the package would just rob me of my excitement and I probably would not be happy with them.

    17. I would be upset. I love box openings. Even if its for clothes. When someone else opens it its like when someone just takes your present on your birthday and opens it in your face. My family is good about not opening my stuff. I think I wouldn't have been as involved in this hobby if someone opened my box before I got to.

    18. Frankly, I'd be rather irked if someone opened my mail. I mean, its against the law, for starters, and its my privacy what comes for me in the mail; there's no need for someone else to go through it. I hardly get mail as it is so opening mail is like "OMG YAY!"

    19. I don't really like it if people open my mail in general, but I don't think it would be a huge deal if someone opened my doll. Although I do want to open my first one myself and would probably be a little upset if I couldn't.

    20. Thankfully my mother knows the excitement I get from doll openings, and I think she enjoys seeing my expressions, so she always leaves my mail to me :) (Though sometimes she ask that I wait for her to get off work because she wants to see as well)
