1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

What if someone else opened your doll?

May 26, 2010

    1. I'd probably feel violated in some way.

    2. I will be angry if I don't know the person and yet he/she opens my box
but if it's someone I trust then Ill just be a little bit sad :)

    3. Over all, with any sort of package,I'd find it mildly irritating. Not because I didn't get to open it (It's fun,but not that big of deal) but because it's an invasion of my privacy. The contents of my packages are of no concern to whoever opened it. Now,if said packaged was severally beat up of if I get junk mail I don't care if someone in my house opens it. The irritation is short lived though so that I can get on with enjoying the fact that my package came. xD

    4. I have my 3rd doll on the way and have told my bf not to open it or I would be very angry with him.

    5. I was devastated when my mother opened my new phone, I don't think I could fathom what I would do if someone opened my doll first!
      (>-.-<) mine

    6. I would hate it, not to mention that opening someone else's mail, even if they're family or a close friend, is illegal

    7. Depends on the situation.

Of my seven dolls, two were opened by someone else before they got to me. Those two were also fully customized/costumed by that person before it got to me. So I can't complain.

Now if it was someone I didn't know, then there'd be hell to pay, same as there is with anyone who opens any mail of mine. Death on wheels.

    8. I wouldn't mind a loved one opening my dolls before me so long as they put they put it back in it's box.

I have all of my doll items shipped to my parent's house since my mailman is a total JERK. I always ask my mom to open up packages when I'm expecting something to make sure it's my stuff....and she likes playing with my dolls lol.

    9. I hate it. I'm getting one for Christmas and she arrived the other day. I got home to discover that my mom had opened her up and put her wig and clothes and eyes in after I had specifically told her not to open the box at all. I was furious because not only did she get to see her first, she dressed her and created her own design for my doll and I don't even get to touch nor see her until Christmas morning.

    10. ;n; Oh man, I hate that. I really hate that. I get very shaky and nervous when I open BJD related boxes for some reason, and it made me anxious just having one of my family members near me as I was opening my first doll. It made madder still when said person wanted to reach into the box and mess around with the other things I had bought while I was checking the doll itself. I know its kind of silly and extreme behavior, but I don't like anyone touching anything of mine before I do and before I get a chance to properly inspect it. I know the other person was just as excited as me and wants to see the doll or look at the stuff but seriously, just wait a few minutes before pawing at stuff so I can enjoy the opening experience without worrying wether or not you might break something.

Also, if anyone opened my doll without my permission I'd probably have an overly-dramatic flip out. Especially if its family/friends because they should know better. Its not their mail, its not their doll, its not their job to open my packages and blatantly speaking; I really don't want their grubby hands all over my things. Not to mention that opening another person's mail is illegal.

    11. Does the custom count?
Because they usually open every foreign package I got...
(that's not really common, but I believe I'm on some kind of list lol)
But at that moment the package goes over my door sill, woe to anyone which got to close to it with a scissor or whatever XD.
I think its the same manner for letters... its not yours, then get the hell out of it!

    12. I don't really mind it? xD Like, at all. I had my friend open up some of my boxes when they were shipped with hers to make sure everything is alright and if anything is broken, we could contact the company immediately. I also opened one of hers for the same reason once. I really don't mind it as I'm not really that excited about the whole box-opening process. I just want to see my beautiful doll :)

    13. I'd be really upset. Something I waited so long for...I want to be the first to see it!

    14. I don't think I'd be too upset as long as I know who opened it. I've had one friend there for the opening of both of my dolls, and I've often needed help with cutting the packing tape whenever anything I get comes in a box. I don't mind if my friend or family opens the box as long as I'm there to see it, in fact it is sort of relaxing to not have to fight tape or packing foam and just watch.

    15. I usually prefer to open dolls myself.
However, there was a case when I asked a friend to receive my doll for me, because I was away from the city for a long time. I asked her to open it and check for damage. And, guess what, the doll was damaged in shipping! :( So it was really a good thing that she opened my doll and could write to the company for the broken part replacement right away! And by the time I actually got the doll, it already had all parts undamaged! :D

But in that case I deliberately asked someone else to open the box. Usually if my family received the dolls when I'm not home, I ask them not to open until I arrive. ^^ But it's not because I would feel offended, it is more because in case the doll is damaged, I would prefer to be the one seeing it and acting immediately.

    16. My friend opened my doll but only the brown parcel, not the inside content. It was for making sure it was really inside it, because it looked to him so little than the doll boxes he've seen before ^^

    17. I don't mind if someone opens the box as long as I've told them to previously. It alleviates the stress of worrying that the company made a mistake. If I'm at work and someone is at my house, I want them to open the box and let me know ASAP if everything is alright. Also, I've had dolls shipped to my parents' house in the past for various reasons, and I always asked my mom to check the doll for me. Of course, if someone is opening my mail without my permission, I'm going to be angry, but I wouldn't be any more upset for a BJD than I would anything else.

    18. I would be pretty devastated, actually.

The box-opening process is really personal for me. I don't get dolls or things very often so I really like it to feel special. I want to be the first one to see and touch the doll when they arrive! I also like to later try to remember that moment before the doll really felt like his character, back when he was a thing in a box rather than my little person. Overall, for me, it is an important, heavily anticipated moment in this hobby that doesn't come around very often.

Fortunately my family is very respectful of anything with my name on it. I can only think of one instance where my mother opened a box of mine, but it was because her name was on it for some reason. (wrong click in the auto-fill address thing on the computer, I assume) As soon as she realized it wasn't hers, she set it aside.

    19. The only time someone has opened my mail, it was when my mom bought me a doll for Christmas. She made sure the doll arrived safely, then packed her back up.

Personally, I don't enjoy box openings the way many people do. For me it's more a matter of privacy and respect. I just don't like when people touch my things without my permission.

    20. I don't really mind at all, Shailara who posted earlier is my best friend RL and we often order dolls together to cut on the shipping costs. I've opened her boxes and she has opened mine in the past and to be honest that was quite okay! (Double box openings with both of us present are still the best imho...) Point remains, I still get to receive my wonderful doll; the box opening experience is on one hand exciting and I love opening up my doll boxes and anything I receive in the mail in general, but I won't be too miffed if that doesn't happen either... xD;

Other than Shai there's nobody at all who would open up my dolls or boxes or mail in my household unless I ask them to personally so I don't even run the risk of someone doing as much without permission...
