What if someone else opened your doll?

May 26, 2010

    1. you know, it happened to me on customs. They suddenly opened up my luts box and tried to find the invoice inside. They are the first ones who opened him. I really got mad but i didn't say anything. i'd like to drop the bomb to them because i suddenly lost my excitement. it's my gift and package. Why should they open him up :(

    2. I don't have to worry about it now, since I'm always home when Mom brings in the packages, so I get to open them first... But if she opened one before I did I'd feel I really missed something. I remember when I got my DoT that opening the box just felt so epic. Mom called, saying she thought it was him and that he was heavier than she expected (haha, I didn't realize BJDs were that heavy, either) and I just ran, taking the box and finding something to open it with.
I guess I would be pretty pissed off if someone opened it before I could.

    3. This hasn't happened to me, but I know I would flip out. It's so tiny of a thing just to leave a box alone until I come home and have a chance to do it myself. Right now in the apartment complex I live in the post office will not leave a package instead just leave a slip and I have to go pick it up. That helps a lot in preventing this type of thing. With the eight I've gotten....I've been home to get 5 of them, 2 I've gone to pick up on my own, and 1 was delivered while I was at work. So that one that was delivered was my YoSD Nono and because that doll means a lot to me to have her, I got a call while at work saying she was here and I actually left work, came home, opened her up, dressed her, did my little happy dance, and went back to work (I live 5 min away XD).

I have reasons for wanting to be the first person to open the box. I know what is supposed to come with the doll and the pictures I was given showing damages and such (if any) beforehand. So I want to make sure everything is there as it was shown to me and check for damage that might have been missed. Plus because I value how dolls are packed, I want to see exactly how my new doll was packed in their box so if I'm unhappy with how things were rattled around I can suggest to the shipper it might be a good idea to pad things a little more in the future (all of my secondhand dolls have arrived beautifully packed, better than my company ones!). I like opening the boxes and feeling excited about seeing my new purchase. Sorta like how I felt when I was able to get into my new car the first time after signing the papers giving me ownership, it's a feeling you get once and I want that experience.

I see the reasons with shipping boxes being damaged (had 3 of those so far >.< ), group orders, and some gifts. but no one should open my stuff without my knowledge. It's a privacy and personal space thing.

    4. It's with out a doubt illegal here in the States too! So if someone is opening up mail that is not addressed to them, make sure they understand it's a Federal offense and punishable by fine and/or imprisonment. Ignorance of the law is no excuse!

    5. Personally I'd feel a little absent and a tad bit pissed, then again I was like, perfectly fine when my mother opened my first doll....kinda XD (Would have actually wanted to open it myself but meh, was shaking to much to do a thing besides smile like a complete retard) Never the less after that pretty much every package I have is opened by none other than me.

Pretty much like i said when I don't open it I feel absent, slightly pissed and somehow the excitement sort of goes off but thats just my opinion, personally I don't think others have the faintest clue what I feel when they open it, let alone when they hold the doll wrongly but that's straying of topic. Never the less yeah...thats my post XD

    6. I wouldn't really mind, to be honest. My second doll was a Christmas present, but he arrived at the beginning of December, when I was away, so I asked my mother to open him and make sure he was okay - just to check that nothing was missing, broken etc that could be dealt with before Xmas.
Sure, it's nice to be the first one to break through the duct tape and so forth, but I'm not going to throw a bitch fit because Customs thought it was suspicious or anything. I'd rather they looked and dismissed the contents than stuck me with a ยฃ100 charge.

    7. I would be mildly pissed. It's like opening a present. That and I know what to look for as far as damage ect.

    8. This would make me angry. I like to open my doll and take arrival photos, mounting up to the excitement of actually seeing the doll. It'd be kind of annoying not being able to open the doll, it's a very exciting and fun moment, and since it's my doll I'd like to be the one to welcome them. I've also done arrival photo stories, and this would leave me without being able to do one.

    9. ._. I think I would die on the inside.
(unless some one opened it, properly clothed them then had them sitting on the table when I got home. I think I would actually freaking love that. XD) But just nothing in between. Hahaha

Relating back to Averis on the first page, my father and I have the same name as well. I don't live with him currently, but I might in a couple years or so. Usually theres the first letter of the middle name, so hopefully there won't be TOO much confusion. >>

    10. I finally bought myself a body for my boy and I haven't been around to open the box. In my case I'd be upset that someone did open my box! but since I'm off to summer college and am not home I had to have my younger sister open it to check if the parts were okay (which was not, it had a broken finger). So I guess it would depend on the situation.

    11. That happend to me, customs opened my doll too. It made me mad but at the same time to them it's just a doll, they have no idea the amount of excitment and saving and planning that goes into these dolls. If you got mad and kicked off about it they'd be like "Wft? crazy doll girl!" It's just their job to open the boxes and move on to the next. I didn't like the idea of a bunch of dudes opening a very beautiful naked woman doll but hey, I'm old fashioned like that.

    12. I guess it doesn't really bother me that much. I have two kids who LOVE opening things even if it's not for them. They know not to open gifts or packages that don't belong to them, but I often give them permission to open stuff...

But if someone opened my mail/packages/boxes without my permission, then there'd be some serious hell to pay.

    13. All hell would break loose.
Unless, it was for a legitimate reason, like something nasty spilled all over it.

Plus, at least in the US, it's against the law to open anyone's mail beside your own.(unless you have permission)

    14. I can't stand my parents touching my things without permission (I've in fact told my mother not to touch ANYTHING belonging to me even if her tiny little pin brain perceives it to be garbage for the bin as it's mine and not hers), I would probably flip my lid at them especially seeing as they KNOW I can't stand them touching my things

    15. I was pretty excited about my first box opening.
I mean, it was first doll, so who wouldn't be excited?
I don't get mail often, and I barely ever get presents that I actually REALLY want nowadays.
So if someone opened my dolly package, unless it looked damaged, I'd be pretty upset, cause it's something I actually want.

    16. Oh, I'd be terribly upset if someone opened my doll before me. To me it was a very special moment to open up my Yo when she got home. She was my grail doll and getting her was a very wonderful moment for me.

So yes, it would hurt me a lot.

    17. I would not be a happy camper. I pretty much perform a 'box opening' for everything I buy(avid online shopper), and to be deprived of that is not cool.

    18. In the beginning I think I would have been upset as well... But now that I've opened quite a few well... it's just NOT that big a deal anymore, I guess? This is probably because I've picked up some dolls from DDE in person, and because for some dolls the bonding and characterizing process isn't that easy-regardless of a box opening.

But yeah, for my first couple of dolls, I would have been quite unhappy XD!

    19. well similiar to what someone else said on the front page, I wouldn't really mind if someone opened the package if it appeared damaged on the outside. however if they were just all excited and opened it without asking first i would be upset. although my family is excited for me when my dolls come, i think they prefer to watch me open the box because of how excited i get.

    20. Argh, I would hate that! I don't know why anyone would, 'cause they'd know what it was and not to touch it... But if they did I'd be like :l
I'd probably shove the doll back in the box and have a re-opening. xP
