1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

what is more exciting searching , deciding, opening the box or playing with the doll

Jul 9, 2015

    1. I don't like searching for new dolls at company websites, which is why I rarely do it. I tend to buy older dolls that I've already seen over and over, or I buy new dolls that someone else shows me. I don't go looking for them myself. However, I DO enjoy looking at secondhand dolls in the DoA marketplace! (Very addictive!)

Opening the box IS fun, but it's over so quickly!

Most of all, I love taking photos of the dolls and doing photostories. It also sparks my imagination for more stories. I read my own stories more than anyone else! I enjoy them because that's when the dolls seem to come alive for me. I can see them interacting with each other as if they are alive. The rest of the time, they just sit around here staring into space, doing nothing!

    2. Oh wow, this is a hard question!
I guess out of all of these, it's opening the box. There is a nostalgic feeling I always get when one of my new dolls arrive; almost like when I was a kid waiting to open my gifts on Christmas day! It's the anticipation and excitement!

However, I do like playing with the doll a lot too. Its a lot of fun to dress my dolls and see what looks nice on them and what doesn't! However, I feel like the most essential part of "bonding" would be just opening the box and having the sculpt just blow me away. A lot of times, pictures on the internet don't do justice for the dolls. I feel like its always better to seem them in person! They are always so beautiful!

    3. I LOVE it when I am totally overwhelmed when I open the box and see the doll's face the first time! Especially if I go "Awww!" or "Oooh!" and have a huge smile on my face that doesn't go away. It doesn't happen with all of them, but I've had some of my dolls for YEARS and I still do the same thing when I look at them.

    4. I'm wishy-washy. Searching and deciding give me anxiety! And box opening is frustrating because I'm trying to rip my way to my new doll but have to be careful at the same time.
So, I'll have to say Having my new doll and deciding what look it will have and getting it finished and his/her first official photo shoot is the most exciting.

    5. there is definitely something about that!

    6. I loooove to play with my dolls! I often just sit with them in my lap and pose them. Box openings are fun too, and shopping, but I like playing with them best.

    7. I'd say playing with the doll. I feel like opening a box is annoying because all of that crap is in the way. Deciding is annoying for me too because what if I'm conflicted between two dolls and can't buy both?

    8. Me too! I like to play with my dolls; posting them and taking some photos. The second thing I like the most must be making them new clothes or accessories. I really enjoy to search for inspiration in internet, books, etc and create a new style to suit my dolls. Opening the box is the last thing that I want to do because I'm always so afraid that something might go wrong with my new doll inside or their face up isn't like what I'd thought. :XD:

    9. The most exciting part for me is when I get home from school to find a beautiful box on my porch with my name all over it (;

I get super anxious and I immediately grab a knife and begin to rip the package open. I can't help it haha. The most boring part is waiting for her to get home from the spa with her finished faceup xD
Then I get super excited always when she gets home again and I begin to dress her and add on to her story by researching more. I also love taking photos of my doll even though I've only had one chance to take some before I shipped her off to Arizona to her faceup artist. I don't have any absolutely completed dolls. I don't think I ever will. I think every doll has a story to keep adding to. You can't just say "She's/He's complete" because they really aren't IMO.

I plan to have multiple dolls. That way I will be super busy with the dolls I already have instead of wanting more and more.
Also, searching for and researching dolls is super duper exciting tbh. I love when companies announce new sculpts and the anticipation occurs once again just the same as the last time and the time before that.

    10. I'm with vicemage and VampireAngel13: the most exciting thing is when your character finally looks back at you. I do enjoy getting my box and opening it and handling a doll for the first time - but it's only when the doll has the right face and the rights clothes that my heart is all aflutter :D. This usually takes a while for me. I need to make the clothes myself, and I'm slow and amateurish, but when I get there, it's bliss. Very often I only know that everything is right when I have actually done it, and I may not feel excited until the final, finishing touch (which is always in the details and happens almost accidentally).

I also care more about dolls that I have had for a while than I do about new ones. New ones are fun because they are new, to be sure, but I'm always a bit nervous around them because I don't know them very well yet and I'm afraid of breaking something (when they are new, I still remember how much I paid for them :p). Dolls I have had for a while - well, I know how to handle them, and I have taken them apart wholly or partly, and I feel confident with them. So yes, playing with a doll I know and taking care of it (restringing etc.) is definitely one of the best aspects of this hobby for me.

    11. That's hard!
First off, I really love the thrill of searching since its exciting to see all of the pretty/handsome/amazing dolls out there I may not have noticed before. Then there's finally settling/deciding and it's the feeling I get when I've found the right one that's just...like that is THE one. That always has me excited. Second, I get excited from just buying that one!
However, the most exciting for me would actually have to be opening the doll when it arrives. I absolutely love the rush/overwhelmed feeling of actually seeing the doll I've been waiting for. To me it's welcoming a new character home. It's finally being able to see them in a physical form and that is a great feeling for me! Playing with the doll is fun and all, getting the character to where I want them to be, posing them and just having them around is fun; nothing compares to the feeling of them arriving though!

    12. It's very exciting for me when I can finally purchase my next dolly! My heart goes a mile a minute in the process of ordering because I can finally say "x doll" is mine! Now, I do get that same bit of excitement when I get to open said dolly as well! I /sometimes/ call in sick when I know nobody will be home to get my new baby and I'll stalk the window waiting for the post man. Good thing I don't get that many new dollies in a year so calling off sick is not that often so I don't feel too bad about it. :XD: Honestly though, everything in the doll hobby excites me but ordering and actually getting said doll are my favorite parts.

    13. I got into this hobby because I wanted the perfect person, the ideal model to sew and make things for. I have been making historical costumes since the 80's. I play with my dolls by painting their faces, sewing them clothes, and making them jewelry and other props. The goal is reaching the perfect image in my head, when the face, the eyes, the wig, the clothes, the shoes, the jewelry are all perfectly what I have envisioned. The box opening is a fairly minor event to me. However I am sincerely attached to the dolls. I usually take over a year to pick out a doll, because I want to make sure they are the right one. I spend months looking at their photos on the company site, here and on flickr and other photo hosting sites to make sure they are THE one. I have been in the hobby since 2008, I only have seven dolls, and I have never sold one, nor could I imagine doing so.

LOL! I thought I was the only person to do that! To take a day off work to wait for my package! I think with my first doll , I popped out of the door so fast I scared the mailman!

Giggle... I don't have children, and at my age I never will, so..... I wonder if I could get one day off for maternity leave? I mean other people take WEEKS!

    14. Everything but mostly the searching and saving because it builds you up and gets you excited and it's something to look forward to its great!

    15. Now that I have a doll finally, playing with her is definitely the most exciting and rewarding part. The box opening is the most nervewracking part, but it was really exciting.

    16. Nothing beats the feeling of finally opening a doll box and unpacking a doll that you have been looking for (Sometimes for years!). :D

and aslo, finally getting the perfect face-up, eyes/wig, outfit set that just 'completes' the character that you have in mind for that doll.

    17. I get so excited about the box opening because I love to see the doll in person for the first time. I also try to make little photo stories while the box is being opened so a box opening for me could last a few hours before I even see the doll. It's very exciting to finally see him/her after paying so much and sometimes waiting for months to get this doll.

Another thing I love is to make little things for them. I enjoy making simple clothes and having them wear it while I take pictures of them. I love playing with them and taking pictures of them.

    18. Deciding is the most ridiculously annoying thing ever! Especially when you have more than one sculpt you love but can only buy one. I'd consider the wait time and the box opening to be the most exciting, and playing with the doll the most rewarding.

    19. I usually buy dolls without any clear plan for them in mind. The most exciting moment for me is that "EUREKA!" moment when I finally know who they are! That moment can come quite soon but also years after I bought them. I finally know who one of my dolls is after owning her for over 4 years and that certainly is super exciting.

    20. The most exciting moment for me is the box opening!! I think it's because the waiting when I know it's on the way feels like forever! Then it finally arrives and then it's like soooo much excitement that I can barely breathe xD (and I try not to just tear into the box ;)) hahaha
