1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

what is more exciting searching , deciding, opening the box or playing with the doll

Jul 9, 2015

    1. The whole process is exciting for me, but the most exciting part is being able to hold the doll in my hands and play with it. I love taking pictures and posing them, it is by far the best part of having BJDs in my opinion. Also, having a faceup artist totally nail the faceup you wanted is pretty exciting as well :)

    2. Finally placing an order for a doll is quite exciting ,especially when I want so many and it's hard to decide which one to get *_* But the most excited I get when I start creating and making a garment for a doll,it takes ages because I try to savour all that process :)Also I take a great pleasure in taking pictures of them, but I only realised it now when I can't do it so often as I wish ,since my little girl is following me around and I'm constantly afraid of her knocking my dolls over while I'm posing them for photo session.I kind of miss my quite and alone time with dolls too ....now that I think of it, that would be the most exciting thing for me at the moment-just to close the doors and have at least couple hours to play with dolls:lol:So I guess it's not a constant thing ,it depends in what phase of your life you are in .

    3. Opening the box for sure, everything else just stresses me out :sweat Deciding is so hard for me because I've ended up having to decide between two dolls for every purchase so far. Searching can be fun but it's quickly overshadowed by the realization that I have to save up for months to get it. Playing with it is fun, I wouldn't call it exciting though.

    4. As a relative newcomer I've found the whole thing exciting - cruising for clothes and supplies (and going HOW much?), drooling over amazing dolls, ALL of it. However, what I've picked up from this thread is the idea of each doll having a particular "character", and it might sound odd but I've never thought of that before! Now I will go and look at my existing dolls in a whole new light!!

    5. Opening the box, no doubt. Don't get me wrong, the entire process of discovering a new doll, deciding on it, saving, buying and all that are all exciting in their own way, but for me, the peak is when that box makes it home and I can finally opening, getting to see the doll I've been admiring for months up close.

    6. Taking photos of them!

    7. As much as I enjoy box opening, actually putting my doll together is what excites me the most. I especially get super happy when she finally comes home with a new face up and I can add her eyes and wig. Completing a doll has always made me the happiest.

    8. I think buying the doll is the most exciting for me.
I buy second hand dolls, and I silently wait in Yahoo Japan for a sculpt I like. When I see one, I contact my dealer and tell her my maximum bid.
If she wins it, then it's really exciting.

    9. That moment when you look at a doll and go ahhhhh.... then it begins, identify her, find her, agonise over the purchase( always its about money) all the time hoping that she will feel the same about me, wondering about her personality, will we click, her hair, her eyes, her style.... is there any part of it that is not great.... exciting, the parcel arrives, you know what it is, you hope there won't be anyone at home to interfere in the opening, then there she is, in your hands... most dolls take 6-8 weeks, its a long and sometimes frustrating wait, but when she is there in your hands, I love this hobby....

    10. Box opening. I still gush over each handsome face or interesting fantastical bjd that's promoted every month or so.

After the amount of time spent searching and deciding. Stalking ninja postman and opening the box made it totally real that the doll is here and mine. My first resin bjd is my minor grail doll (basic blank doll that had synched well with the intended character ) and upon opening the box I realize not only had he dethrone my so called major grail (a discontinued sculpt), he made it really hard for me to buy another 1/3 male doll in his height range. 5 years later I have 4 bjds, not counting my OT 1/6ers of which the population had stablelised prior to getting him.

Playing is more along the lines of bonding for me and 'earning their keep' for the dolls. I kinda see it as pride, satisfaction and joy since I sew some of their costumes and the effect turned out decent. I just love how the changing of wigs and clothes make them into other characters if only for a month or two before they goes back to their default look again. The cosplaying was what brought me back into dolls after 15 odd years of no-Barbiedom.

    11. I actually hate box opening, to be honest. The idea of all that packing material and the necessity of cleanup/recycling makes me exceptionally anxious. The excitement for me is in transforming my doll from a generic, blank sculpt into the embodiment of a character.

    12. I like working with them the best. Making things for them, thinking about face ups, things like that.

    13. I have mixed feelings about box openings. I always fear to break something or discover damages (like when my secondhand 5stardoll Ji arrived with two broken fingers that seemed to be anywhere in the box... I had a terrible moment, until I found the two fingers and an additional pair of hands) and only one in two box opening makes me immediately fall in love with the doll.

I enjoy a lot more working with the dolls, making them match the characters I have in mind for them or creating a fitting one, with his/her clothing style. My dolls are officially welcomed in the doll shelf (and in the family) only when they're face-upped, wigged and dressed, until that moment they sit in their boxes.

    14. For me, it's a mixture of searching and finding a doll, planning to get a new doll and having that doll (including opening the box and playing with the it). I most like playing with them, but I do like planning out a new doll, looking for wigs and eyes, an outfit for them and whatever else they could have.

But I do like opening boxes, not just for the doll...but also for the bubble wrap it could possibly have.

    15. It was really interesting to read these answers, I can really relate to some of them. ;)
As for me, I think the most exciting thing is the process for finding a perfect doll and placing an order. When I look different websites with some character on my mind and suddenly there is a doll that would be perfect for my character - it is really exciting. I also find it really exciting to build my character - do make up, style wig, find/mke some clothes and then finally you can see your character as you always imagined it to be.

I do also have mixed feelings about waiting for a doll to come and opening boxes. It is exciting, but I am also thinking about all the horrible things that could happen. A parcel could get lost or some part of a doll could be broken. However I love the feeling when I have opened a box and my new doll is finally in my hands.

    16. I like opening the box :) I also find searching for the right sculpt very exciting, and playing with my doll quite exciting too! I find the buying and waiting to be a bit stressful, lol

    17. I agree that the whole process is exciting for me! My most favorite part is opening the doll for the first time and holding/playing with it! I really enjoy getting to know my dolls and bonding with them.

    18. Buying the doll, wating and buying stuff for them is more exciting for me xD However, opening the box and playing around with the doll is pretty exciting too! Just my personal point of view :P

    19. Honestly I spend my time online looking at doll stuff. It's fun to plan things out or to look over the various choices of clothes, eyes, wigs, etc.
Opening boxes is also very fun but I think the most exciting thing for me is having a complete doll to play with.
I like having the perfect wig, the perfect eyes, nice outfits. It makes me feel like all the waiting I did was very worthwhile.

    20. Without question for me it's the anticipation when a doll is due to arrive very soon, and then the box arrival and opening.
My Becca is going to be paid off as of tomorrow, and then she will be shipped from DenverDoll, so she should be here in about a week. I'm so excited I can hardly breathe. I've been looking forward to this for a very long time. I had to delay making her final payment for one month, and that was torture, knowing she was in the US, but I couldn't get her yet.

I've also discovered that when I get a doll completely finished - wig, eyes, clothing and sheos. It is a very exciting moment. I got to that point with my Genesis (5Star Tumnus) a couple of weeks ago, and it was really a good feeling.
