It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. What is the worst part about being a BJD collector/owner?

Dec 20, 2011

    1. I would say the number one worst thing is the cost. I am a young adult without a job currently looking but no luck yet. I mean wigs and clothes for the dolls can be expensive. So overall just the cost of them looking how i'd like to have them.

Also I dislike having to wait for so long for things to arrive in the mail. :(

    2. I rememebered when i was with my ex girlfriend, she brought one of her kids out (at that time i was not an active collector) We were going around at some old people filled area to meet up with my dad, after my dad left, he called and told me to keep the doll cox someone was looking at us and commented that we were crazy for bringing a doll out. My dad said he told the fella, "Thats my daughter" And that fella (of course) shut up.

Im living in singapore, there are people who can't accept dolls and people who don't understand this hobby, but mostly i wont bring my kids out bcox there are always timid people who 'might' get a heart attack when they got scared.... not good to kill people like that (sacarstic tone =w=)

    3. The worst part of this hobby is that I feel that it is never going to end. It's like a constant cycle of acquiring new things, selling those things if you're not happy with it, losing money when it is sold and buying new ones to replace it (lose more money) - repeat.

Also, =_= my spending habits and how it never feels that things are enough because there's always new things popping up all the time. :(

OH! And how can I forget, hehe. The constant feeling of never being able to completely be myself and not get weird looks from other doll collectors. TvT'''

    4. They get designer clothes .... And everything I wear came from Wal-Mart

    5. There are a couple factors that make being a doll collector difficult.
      1. Money is always an issue. I have more than one expensive hobby already, and this is just another to stack on.
      2. In my area there are NOT a lot of doll collectors, and people generally don't understand. My reply is always "Some people collect stamps and coins. I collect dolls for me to love and give homes to."

    6. The worst part about being a doll owner for me is not having enough money to deck out my doll.
Or when I do, I cant find clothing I like. The cost for the dolls themselves is a problem, but I sort of like that they are expensive. It just makes them even more special and I appreciate them more.

Thankfully no one has ever been too harsh on me about them, only one person but he and I are no longer friends. Not because of my hobby but other stuff.

But really, this has been a very positive experience for me so far and I love my doll!
At the end of the day she'll just be my little buddy that I can look at and not worry so much anymore.
And that makes stressing over making her look the way I want, or dealing with some negative comments all worth it. ;)

    7. sigh...definitely the cost!my stiphen just stopped and im really feeling the need to curb getting new clothes/wigs/eyes......i always tell myself that's the last doll im getting but there always seems to be new ones (and limited editions! ahhh..) or dresses that i fall in love with.

but i love my dolls and really once i get a proper job again i will go back to fussing over them =)

    8. I have to say the money comes first... most of the other issues I have would be solved if I was made of money (the addiction, for instance; not a problem if I could afford all the dolls I want).

    9. Definitely the money. xD I have too many hobbies and this isn't the only expensive one. OTL

    10. Here are the things that I think are the worst parts: 1. the cost. 2. the wait. 3. noncollector's negative views on the hobby 4. lack of space to display everything

    11. I'll definitely say lack of space. My dolls are crammed on a bookcase and their things are stored in the office but it's cramped. I want to build a proper 1:3 scale dollhouse but where the heck would I put it? So that's a big issue for me.

I love the revolving door of always buying new things, and the feeling of never being finished. To me that's what makes it fun. Always some new craft or idea to tinker around with. I like that.

The money thing isn't too much of an issue but I like that I am limited. Giving myself a budget keeps me grounded and keeps me from just buying it all up front. That would take the fun out I think. The most fun things to want are the things we can't have (at least not right away) and the things we wait and save for. When we can have it all, it ceases to be fun. So waiting and planning add to the suspense. It adds to the joy when the dolls do come.

    12. For me in this hobby is envy from others collectors. I know people which collect only Volks (and they think that they are the best) dolls and they're slandering others people which have chiper dolls ;/ They are more expensive and less expensive dolls and this hobby is for all peopole which like bjd dolls.

    13. As with everyone else, cost is one major factor, especially when things starts adding up (shipping etc.)
Parents who don't understand and keep asking why are you spending so much on these as well. Though I have yet to own a doll, I can foresee that happening.

    14. 1)Cost

That's the big one. Even if I had a steady income and could afford to spend more, it's still a lot of money. Like a lot of other people have said, I don't have just this hobby. (Not mention my education that could probably buy out all the full set limiteds for a couple months....yeesh!)

      2) Seeing the dolls in person.

I haven't been able to get to a meet to see dolls in person, to see the sizes they are and see what variances in sizes are. I'd love to swap eyes and wigs, or see what certain sizes fit best on certain dolls. DOA is great for figuring this all out...but still, nothing beats an in person experience.

      3)Space

My room is small, very small. Not that I am complaining or anything. I don't have room for more things, so a lot of dolls is a big no. Even though I would LOVE to have more dolls.

    15. Of course the money, and finding the perfect doll who happened to be last year's limited holiday/summer/spring event that if you can find now won't be in the skintone/gender you want or doesn't have the extra parts/faceup you want. Or finding the perfect wig for your doll and realizing it's not available or the company is gone now...

    16. I would have to say, never having enough money put together to just buy what one needs or wants. Nothing worse than, making payments on one doll and another pops up for sale that you have been wanting forever and the seller doesnt take layaway, or you don't have enough to carry another layaway.

    17. - The price of the doll
      - The price of the shipping. My chalco's box weighted 3 freaking killos, can you imagine how expensive was the shipping? Plus I live in the hell of far away...
      - The price of everything doll-related.

    18. for me the hardest thing about owning BJDs is the cost...and getting one and finding about 3 that i want to get next...or finding one i fall in love with, then once i might have enough to get it having it be discontinued or sold out from the company...

    19. I would join the rest and say cost. I also think sometimes the "hunt" can be tedious or frustrating for the accessories (eyes, wigs, clothing, shoes) - when you are looking for something in particular. It can be overwhelming to comb through the many sites out there. Sometimes I have fun with it. Other times it seems a little annoying. :)

    20. The cost has to be the worst thing to me, especially since I'm jobless at the moment. But the negative comments are pretty bad, as well.
Oh, and finding the perfect wig/eye for a specific doll when you have one style/color set in your mind that you can't really find is bad, too.
The joy the hobby brings me seems to wash out the negatives for me, though :)
