What is the worst part about being a BJD collector/owner?

Dec 20, 2011

    1. As many others have already said....

      1) Not being any good at sewing for my dolls.
      2) Watching them age....wondering if that lovely cream white when it starts to turn yellow will end up looking green at any stage!
      3) Customs...grrr.

I don't mind the cost so much, if they were easier to buy I would have a ridiculous amount and no where to put them - that being said, I often resent the cost of shipping a solo wig...I don't need my wig to come in a box!^^

    2. I would probably say :

      -The cost
      -The waiting ;___;

    3. Worst things for me in being a collecter is when you get one doll then you want another and you cant get the doll cause of price and if you can the waiting.

    4. for me it's the waiting !

    5. For me it's definitely the cost, as with most people. >_> There are so many beautiful dolls out there, lots of awesome outfits I want, pretty wigs, nice eyes... And not nearly enough 'greens' in my wallet to support it.

    6. I agree with almost everyone else that said cost. But I also am having a dilemma on picking the right sculpt and coloring. I want so many if them it is hard to choose just one. Plus, what if the color I choose doesn't look the way I imagined after spending all that$ on it. Though I guess that is what the Marketplace is for(once I get access to it).

    7. The worst part is all the money that goes into the accessories. This is money I could be saving for my future home and what-not lol. But I do hold onto the faith that if need be I can sell my dolls for a profit. I can't imagine doing that right now, but times change.

    8. -The Cost
      -The Space
-The not having anyone around me to talk with them about (however, my mom is starting to get into making doll clothes for American Girl and Barbie, so eventually I might nudge her to get a BJD because they're about the same price for the collector ones, and she can make the most beautiful outfits!)
-The Character Swap (my dolls sometimes decide they don't like being what they are and have to go through sooo many wigs and eyes...)
-The Time...I don't have enough! XD

But it balances out because I usually have more than one cuddle buddy in the bed, I love to make things for them, and I feel more fulfilled by caring for these little hunks of resin. Actually, they're one of the reasons I moved out...to protect them. :3

    9. New one: Being unable to resist adding to my OT doll collection..I WANT to save up for a resin....but the more affordable ABS always are getting me not only with their cost...But how damn cute they are too!

    10. Cost and criticism.

It's an expensive hobby and because it's expensive, I get a lot of crap for spending money on them. I know one shouldn't care about all of that, but coming from a family who's been through hard time...I just can't blame them.

    11. Knowing I will always want another and having the money to buy another, but also knowing I can not fill my house with BJD's

    12. The cost is terrible.:...( Can't imagine how much i have spent on it.

    13. actually it's a lot of things for me ;x;b but i love the hobby enough to not mind terribly

-the cost of about everything (clothes, doll, wigs, eyes, shoes)
-the inability to know how something will fit on your doll before you buy it
      - waiting
      - unavailability of dolls you love (either limited editions or otherwise)

      ... etc.

    14. well I am sure they have been said:

      - Customs ransom,
      - Waiting times,
      - Finding perfect eye/wig sizes,
      - The running out of room problem,
      - Yellowing
& finally the TEMPTATIONS, all the new dolls that come out that you are going to want to have.

    15. The worst part is that I've turned into a shopaholic! I just want to buy everything I see that I like, yet the cost is too much. So there's that, and then it seems like a lot of people don't understand the hobby and brush BJD owners off as creepy, which is a little annoying.

    16. The worst part is the cost definitely ! Im really stingy with money and every time i buy something my heart aches haha and my BJD have done the worst damage.
I don't have a job either now because im still studying , so basically money is a big issue to me .
Also the fact that there are people who think im weird due to this hobby that i have .

    17. I'm going to have to go with
A). having other responsibilities (bills, ect) so MONEY
B). Finding clothes that fit your doll
C). Having other people understand the hobby. And not just another "DOLL"

    18. Affirmative. yep. in a nutshell. ^^

    19. The worst part is lack of money and loneliness!

    20. I guess the worst part would be the wardrobe part when looking through their wardrobe...it seems "nothing much to wear"...
