What is your favorite doll size and why - Part 2

I used to think 1/4 | MSD size was my favorite, but these days it's 1/6 size! They have the perfect combination of still looking really intricate and beautiful while still feeling manageable to store and work with. I love my 1/4 dolls aesthetically but they are much more difficult to do anything with and they take up so much more space.

 

Smaller 1/3, like 60cm. I am a clothes, shoes, and accessories fan, and I love the realistic details that you can get on 1/3 items that you just don’t get with the smaller sizes.

 

I love to hold and hug my 1/3 - 60 cm but I like to play with my 1/4 MSD.

 

I actually love the innovative size and proportion of lutsdoll called MDF. The new body, which is scheduled to be released soon, boasted a ratio of 51cm to 70cm dolls. However, it is difficult to find clothes and draw faces, so I have a big doll about 65 to 70cm. In fact, I have a hobby of collecting doll eyes, and I wear very, very small eyes even though I am 70cm, so the same model comes out at 51cm, but I can't dare. When I saw my acquaintance's MDF, it was very light and excellent form. It was amazing that it was reduced as it was. I have a big doll even though my mind is complicated when many reasons collide.

 

I'm an SD lover, my smallest is a yosd who fits well as an elementary student compared to the 'adults' in my crew. I'll take my yosd out in public since she's easy to carry, but to make things, to pose, to do stuff with, I prefer my SDs and I plan on buying a few more big dolls to finish out my collection.

 

I like YoSDs because they're so convenient to take around in bags. Also I love taking cute tiny scale pictures with flowers and mushrooms and rocks that work best with the smaller scale. I just think 8-12 inches tall is the best!

 

While I started out with 1/3, I'm now a big mature 1/6 (or "actually scaled 1/6") fan! It's a size that isn't too terribly popular with BJDs right now, but it's certainly been gaining some... I really like it for a lot of reasons. First and foremost: they sure are more cost-effective, haha! And take up less space in my apartment. But more importantly, I love the ability to buy fashion doll/action figure clothes, shoes, accessories, etc for them and along the same lines I'm a big diorama/sets/miniatures person! It's not reasonable for me to plan out entire rooms for my bigger dolls, but for 1/6 it's far more reasonable. I can use Re-Ment with them! Things for Barbie! For action figures! The world is my tiny accessory oyster... It's a lot of fun.

 

I adore MSD Big Babies but I also have a love for tinies around Pukifee size. Perfect pocket buddies.

 

When I first got into the hobby, I thought I would rather own an MSD-size doll as they were easier to handle, in my opinion. However, that changed after purchasing an SD-size doll, making me fall in love with the proportions! Bigger dolls feel more realistic to me, which I adore the most about them. I also find more flexibility in clothing styles for this size for the aesthetic I like.

 

My favorites for posing and photos are MSD, but I love me a good cuddle with a larger uncle boy because the weight is DIVINE.

 

I like tinies

They are easy to take to photo locations, they are just adorable and they fit in one hand.

 

My favourite right now is MSD. It's easy to handle, but large enough for realistic details in clothes, sculpt etc.

I've also owned an SD size doll, a 60cm Smart Doll, which was too big for me. It was a vinyl doll so weight wasn't an issue - instead it was her proportions. I like mature/sexy dolls but her incredibly long legs were a turn off to me in real life even though they looked great in photos.

Last but not least I had an Obitsu 26 fashion doll body, which I loved but never found a head for it that I really liked. 1/6 dolls are a really cute size! Finding ways to add detail into their tiny outfits is very satisfying to me. I'd like to get YoSD dolls next - I'm currently saving for an imda 2.2 or 2.6

 

1/4. I started with those & I circled back to that size again. Got in between 1/3s, 1/12s, 1/6s. But 1/4 is perfect. They more compact. Less heavy than 1/3. Easier to crochet/sew for. Easier to put clothes on. Tiny ones I cringe when I need to change theirs clothes. Its head & arms had to go or nothing goes in. And 1/3s I feel like it’s just miles & miles of leg space where is boring to sew or craft anything,

Shelving dolls

 

I loved all sizes and still appreciate them and like to see those online , but through time my tastes and prefferances evolved , in vinyl/celluloid dolls I prefer huge kid like dolls like las reinas of paola reina but in bjd's I prefer msd dolls , I can still handle sd but the 60cm+ big ones are too heavy for me to heavy for my shelves and too big and floppy to be displayed nicely though the weight is their biggest problem . That's why in my latest purge I'm keeping only msd dolls the rest are goners, so for me is 1/4 or msd preferably cute.

 

My all-time favorite is small SD in the ~56cm range or so. I like them because I find MSDs too small for me to enjoy the customization aspects of, but larger SDs tend to be pretty hefty and inconvenient to carry around and take pictures of. Small SDs split the difference by being big enough that they're convenient for crafting and making look nice, but they're also a bit lighter on the weight aspect and require less prep to take on adventures.

That said, small SD is a size pretty limited on sculpts, particularly bodies with double jointed posing and not having super wonky proportions, so I primarily buy standard-to-large SD (60-70cm).

 

Well well well, I’ve actually discovered a new size I like! I’m still partial to the 30-50 cm sized dolls, they feel big enough to really be impressive without taking up too much space (especially ones with larger heads). I’ve owned a few sub-14cm sized dolls before and neither of them worked, because they felt too small and toy-like. I wanted to try again with something small for portability (so I can take a doll travelling with me), so I bought a 17cm girl. Somehow, those extra few centimetres made all the difference! She looks and feels just like her bigger sisters - but really miniaturized. So I guess I can safely say my size range has expanded from 30-50cm to 20-50(ish). I don’t think I want too many little ones, but now I’m starting to wonder if I want the 1/6 adults too. :P

 

I like them all, but probably 1/4 or 1/6. I prefer that dolls are small, cute, and a little childish. I think the bigger, more imposing ones can be stunning but I want them to make me feel comfortable instead of in awe, if that makes sense.

 

SD 58cm-75cm

I love the weight of them. They photograph so well. The larger ones feel easier to move and pose for me. They just feel more mobile, and less delicate. They look really good with the human sized photography backgrounds that I buy for them. I enjoy sewing for them more, and making furniture for them. I find them just all around easier to handle.

It's funny when I started collecting I thought they were to big and only wanted MSD and Tiny dolls. Now all of those little beauties are on a shelf where I can admire them, but they just feel weird to me when I pick them up and try to take pictures of them, because I have gotten so used to the bigger dolls.

 

1/4 and 1/6 sized dolls are my favorite as a long-time pullip collector, who's now getting into minifees! my friend has several sd size dolls and while they are insanely beautiful and fun, they take up so much space. i love a big enough doll that i feel the weight and they stand out on my shelf, but in terms of storage are still tiny enough that i don't need to figure out a special case for them.
